Anyone know of a really good self-tanner? I can't go to Disney ghostly white!!! :cool1:

Also, do you have a sunscreen that you recommend? Sadly, we are a very pale family. I'm afraid that my boys are going to get blisters. I'm especially looking for something that I can spray in their hair (they refuse to wear hats). I've used some of the liquid gel sunscreens before, but some of them make their hair really sticky. :confused3

I always hated those fake tanners. But I found this moisturizer made my Jergens. It's called Jergens Natural Glow. It gives the appearance of a healthy tan without making your skin look orange. It works with the pigments in your skin to bring out a nice healthy glow. I love it.

As for sunscreen, I've always like Neutrogena. I don't know about sprays since I don't use them, but I've always used their lotions.

For the kids, my DD and DIL use "Coppertone Water Babies Spray" in the hair to protect their scalps. They apply it several times during the day. Works out really well for the kids.

I fake baked a little before I left and we were gone for 12 days of beautiful Florida sunshine :sunny: so.... how can I keep it since we are still about a month or more away from beach weather here in Michigan? I'd love some suggestions!

I am also a very pale person. I have tried every sunscreen out there, and they all make me burn even more. This has resulted in me wearing baby sunscreen. I love it. It stays on and works wonderful. As for the sunless tanning I also love to use this for special occasions. Although I would suggest using the kind that you have to reapply everyday. Be careful what kind you use. Some washes off with water, not a good idea if you are going to do water rides. Another thing if you are leaning more towards a longer lasting sunless tanning the chlorine from the pools will eat it off. I did this one time after paying $45 at a salon. What a waste of money!

I just bought the Jergen's natural glow and like it so far. I've only used it for the last three days, so we'll see.

As far as sunscreen I'd go for the highest SPF I could find. I always buy 'Hawaiian Tropic Ozone sunblock UVB/UVA protection with a 70 spf' and have never burned (and I'm very fair). It says it absorbs quickly, is nongreasy, nonmigrating, moisturizing, aloe enriched.

I'm a glow-in-the-dark white skinned redhead. During the summer at home I can get by with Neutrogena or Coppertone self-tanners for my legs but I just can't tackle the whole body. So before each warm weather vacation I treat myself to a mystic spray-on tan at a salon the night before we leave. I know I can't get the color even by myself and it's worth the $25 for me not to look bright white. I gave up trying to tan long ago. I don't have the right pigment in my skin and I have skin cancer in my family. The spray-on tan makes me feel better and gets me in the vacation mode. Then all I have to worry about is using enough sunscreen to avoid burning.

Bare Escentuals/Minerals has a self tanner which I have used with great success. It is called "faux tan". It is a brown lotion so you can see where you apply it and with in a couple hrs you have a nice tan. Keep reapplying and you will have a nice dark tan. It doesn't have a horrible odor like some of the fake tanners have. It lasts for several days before you need to reapply. I ordered it off QVC but the Sephora stores has it in stock. :goodvibes

May I please just take a moment to BEG people to use tons of sunscreen and to reapply often and most importantly...Please please Do NOT use tanning beds. They are lethal. One of my dearest friends died two years ago b/c of skin cancer. When we were in college she would go to the tanning beds and burn b/c it "turned to tan"...she was a platinum blonde porcelin skinned beauty. (even if you are naturally tan it is STILL dangerous to use tanning beds and lay out in the sun without protection) The skin cancer ate her alive...it took less than a year to kill her. Being tan is NOT worth you life. It's rediculous this obsession with having a "real" tan...Mystic TAn is a great product, you get a really authentic looking tan without endangering your life.

So when you are all out there in the Florida Sun, please use tons of sunscreen, spf 30 or higher. Especially on your kids...a bad burn as a child increases your chances of skin cancer by 50%.

not to be a downer...but this is so important!!!!!

Thanks! Aveeno is one of the only brands that I can use, and I didn't know that they made tanning stuff. Maybe they don't have it in Canada yet, so I'll make sure to check it out when I go to the States during the Victoria Day week-end!

Another vote for Bare Escentuals Faux Tan. It is the only thing I use. I've tried drugstore kinds, expensive make-up counter brands..this is by far the best. You will develop a 'tan' within an hour or so of applying. It will wash off a bit the first time you shower. I always use it at night AFTER I shower so that it can set it nice and good. The next day after I shower, I reapply it again, then I am good to go (and tan to boot!) for the next week or so.

I get mine and Sephora or QVC.

I have used lots of different products with no problems and do not normally have sensitive skin however there is something in the Jergens lotion that really makes me itch. I have tried two different varieties of Jergens brand lotions and had the same reaction with both. Really made me sad too because I liked the "tan" I was getting with it! Just fyi...

I've had good luck with the Neutragena line of self-tanners though.

Btw, a pp mentioned the "cooling mist" sunscreen. We used this on our trip to DL in April and actually got burned. I think because it sprays out in such a fine mist that it doesn't give great coverage. I did like the cooling effect but as far as sunscreen went it was a bit lacking. If you're going to use the cooling mist sunscreen, then I would suggest using a regular sunscreen w/high spf to start with (I do like the Coppertone no rub spray on kind) and just use the cooling stuff through out the day to maintain and well, stay cool! :)

i have very sensitive, & very light skin & i love the jergens. you do want to use the proper color tho, comes in lt, md & dk skin tone.

I use the Neutrogena Build a Tan line, and am pretty happy with it. I don't love the fake tan smell, but them's the breaks. It goes away after a shower.

For sunscreen (I'm Paley McWhiterson) I have used the generic drug store brand of sunscreen wipes, and loved those last summer. I also used sunscreen from Keihls, and found it to be thick, but great!
