Hi,

We are looking at buying a small contract for BWV. We are hoping to get a contract with 2010 points remaining (or banked). We generally go to DIsney in November every 2-3 years. We are planning on banking 2010's points, using 2011's points and borrowing 2012's points. Then doing the same for the next 3 years etc.

Is this possible? Would we best to choose a specific use year for our plans?
Any other advice you would like to share?

If you bought a 100 point listing at the Boardwalk with a June, August, September or October use year it is very possible. You bank the 100 points from 2010, have the 100 from 2011 and borrow 100 from 2012. you would then have 300 points for your vacation in November of 2011.

I would suggest picking June, August, September or October use year.

I hope that helps.

I highly recommend the Timeshare Store... they are great to deal with!

I would also recommend the Timeshare Store also. Bought my first contract from them and it was a pleasure. Answered all my noobie questions. Kept me informed all the way through and staff was efficient and friendly. Have no complaints and will surely do business with TTS again.

Getting a spring UY would be best, in my opinion. That way if you do cancel, you will still have time to bank or rent or transfer your points.

We travel in November all the time as well. We have an Aug UY which has worked out just fine and believe it or not this week was the first time that we ever used banked, current, and borrowed points. I think I over bought when I did, 310 BWV, but its nice having all those points to play with and now think otherwise.

i also travel in november and december all the time with an oct UY, which is pretty ideal.

the downside of only travelling every 3rd year is that you risk having a few points go to waste, unless you offer to transfer any leftover current year pts to another member.

Hi,

Thank you all of the replies. They have been really helpful. What we are hoping to do is buy a 50 point contract with all points available for 2010. We would then like to bank the points for 2010. use the points for 2011 and borrow the points for 2012, to use in 2011. We would be booking a studio for 2 weeks. This would work out to 156 points. We would need to either rent 6 points or buy 6 one off points from Disney.

When would we need to bank the 2010 points? Could we do it as soon we closed on the sale?

Does any of this sound feasible? We are hoping to either add on or purchase another contract in the future but right now this is all we can reasonably afford?

First of all, congratulations on being reasonable and keeping your initial purchase small. In the long run, DVC can be quite expensive when you add tickets, meals, travel, etc. to your trip. From your photo, it looks like you have a small baby...they become more expensive every year as they grow older!

With that said...buying a small contract with has available points can be difficult. 50 point contracts sell quite quickly.

I suggest you call The Timeshare Store (who sponsors these boards) and see what they can do for you in finding a contract which meets your needs.

We would need to either rent 6 points or buy 6 one off points from Disney.

you can't technically "rent" pts, BTW. you can have another DVC owner transfer the pts to you or you can get them directly - but you can only get them directly at 7 months out and only if there's availability at that time (so it'll almost always work for stays at SSR or OKW...maybe a bit riskier for a reservation at BLT.)

When would we need to bank the 2010 points?

you would have until 8 months after the start of your 2010 "use year" to bank the 2010 pts.

BTW, if you are planning a trip in sept 2011 and you have a contract with an october UY, you are actually traveling in your 2010 UY and would have to use 2009, 2010 and 2011 pts to make the reservation. make sure you've read the first post here and understand use year.

Could we do it as soon we closed on the sale?

as long as you are still within that 8 month "banking window", then yes.

Does any of this sound feasible?

IMO, you'd be better off if you traveled every other year instead of every third year...but it is possibly doable.

also, i would agree that to get a 50 pt contract, you'd best contact the timeshare store and get on the email list.

Hi,

Thanks again for the replies. A contract with 2010 points still available would be ideal. We could manage without and go every other year but it would mean we would need to stay somewhere else for 4 days of our trip. We live in the UK so that cost of flights is the highest part of our holiday budget.

If we were to go every other year it would cost a lot more in flights, hence preferring every 3 years.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if we HAD to go more often though(lol)!!

We are on the timeshare store email list but thank you for the advice nonetheless.
