F&W Festival - 1st Weekend - Crazy Busy??

Thinking of hitting F&W Fest on the 1st weekend (9/30 to 10/3). Is the first weekend absolutely crazy with crowds? We've never been to F&W before and would love to experience it, but don't want to be standing in obscene lines all day. Thanks for any input!
