I have not been to WDW in 20 years and there are some attractions that I have always wanted to experience but they have come and gone. Two of them being Captain EO and ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Can anyone tell me what either one of these attractions were like? Does anyone believe that there is a chance that ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter may come back but maybe in Epcot or Disney MGM?

Personally, I do not think they will bring Alien back. I never really liked Alien but after sitting through Stitch this last time, I say bring back Alien!!!! As best I can remember Captain EO was a show and we always made sure we watched it. Can you really blame Disney for taking Micheal Jackson out of Epcot? All the controversy and such!

I can't blame them at all! I'm sure they will NEVER bring that one back. Was Alien Encounter bad because it was so frightening?

I liked Alien Encounter, but it wasn't your typical Disney attraction, which is probably why they ended it. Stich replaced it, which is awful and I have yet to meet someone who actually enjoyed it.

In Alien Encounter, everyone went to a preview room to show and experiment that was going to move this alien in one tube to another tube. But what the guy didn't see is that when his particles are transported, he turns into a mean alien. So they take everyone into this experiment room, and the "mean" alien gets loose... the lights go out, and you hear all these noises, and it seems like the alien is right behind you. THe whole time we were just sitting with shoulder harnesses on. I always thought it was kinda scary for a young kind.

I remember Captain EO very vaguely-- this has been gone a while, hasn't it?

I remember seeing Captain EO at Disneyland. It was a 3-D production in a standing room only theater. I recall that Jackson starred as Captain EO battling a witch who wanted to deprive the world of music and happiness. Captain EO fights her with his music and special powers.

It seemed neat at the time, but the current 3-D productions (Mickey's Philharmagic, It's Tough to Be a Bug, Muppetts) is far superior.

I actually found the DVD of Captain EO at a Comicbook show. I couldn't beleive it. It was really very very harmless. I mean come on if it was in DisneyWorld......

But that was taken out of Epcot long before any of his "alleged" accusations.

It was replaced with Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

I was always curous about captain EO. I still have my old Barbie girls magazine that advertised it as a new attraction when it first came out. :)
What makes the Stitches great escape worst than AE? Is the change drastic?

I loved Captain EO! But it has been gone for a very, very long time and won't be coming back

I like the Stitch encounter in place of Alien. it's cute and funny. not every attraction has to be an e-ticket.

I liked Alien Encounter but felt it would be too scary for my DD6. However, she loves Stitch! ( I thought it would be too scaryfor her.) for me it's just okay.

I took my nephew (then 8) to Alien Encounter-he hated it.

Just goes to show with kids you never know.

5 days and counting!!

Alien was awful, IMO. I only was on it once, but there was a poor little girl sitting next to me who was probably about ten, and she got so scared on it that she was hyperventilating. And her poor parents couldn't get to her to calm her down because they were strapped in. I agree that Stitch isn't much better, though!
Captain EO was cool but weird (as befits Michael Jackson :) ) but what it really seemed like was a very long music video. Not nearly as cool as any of the 3-D movies that replaced it, for sure. At least the one at WDW had seats so you didn't have to stand!

Disneyland had seats as well, no standing allowed. In this case I think SRO meant the theater was filled to capacity.

What was even better than Captain Eo was Captain Eeyore. I think I am one of the few to have seen this video. It was filmed by cast members at Disneyland as a spoof on Captain Eo and in my opinion was FAR better.

One scene has Captain Eeyore coming up into the ship covered in rolls of duct tape hanging off him. (In the real movie, when Michael Jackson ascends into the ship on a lift there is a roll of duct tape by his foot that some tech forgot to remove).

They filmed it in the middle of the night, used the utilidors for the finale of the movie. I REALLY wish all of you could have seen it. They used Snow White and Pooh and a bunch of other characters in it. It was great!

I liked Alien Encounter but in my opinion it belonged in MGM, not in MK. It was really scary for most kids and put some kids into therapy I am sure. OK, I am going to hell for saying this but my roommate and I agreed that the screaming of this 8-10 year old in pure terror really added to the ambiance of the ride. (Told you I was going to hell). I did feel REALLY bad for the kid but since you are strapped into those seats, the kids can't get away and the parents cant really comfort them. His Dad was trying to tell him it wasn't real but the kid was just screaming and crying. I'm tellin you - a few grand for therapy is in his future.

My DS9 had gone to Alien Encounter with a school group while they were in Orlando for a science competition. He came home and told my DS10 that "they choose a member of the audience and the alien eats that person." Well, this naturally made my DS10 more apprehensive than usual, although he thought the show was great when he actually experienced it himself. My DD was 8 and I knew she wouldn't like it, so she didn't go, but then one of her brothers pointed out the cute little "Skippy" alien in the store and told her it was the alien from Alien Encounter, which isn't a complete lie, but if you saw the show, you know it's not the only alien there. Anyway, I told her that she could have the stuffed Skippy, but she wouldn't want to see the show. :earsgirl: Isn't it great to have kids with such wonderful senses of humor? :scared1:

I think that the ride was too scary for MK. Adults who didn't speak English well and small kids (or sensitive kids) wouldn't really understand what was going on. I personally loved the humor, but it was too tongue in cheek for non-English speakers to totally follow because of the way it was presented. I haven't been on the Stitch one yet, so can't relate to that one. But I did see Captain EO and I remember that we all thought it was very entertaining, but times change and I can see why it would be replaced. One of Disney's big "pluses" in my book is mixing the familiar with the new. And "Carousel of Progress" is still one of my favorites, although it hasn't been opened on a few of our visits. I'm looking forward to going on that one again.
