Extra Special Double Secret Fastpasses

I'm sorry you missed your Luau! They didn't charge you for missing, did they? (Just curious - I'd imagine they'd assume the cost when it's something like a two hour monorail breakdown!)
We were not charged for the Luau. We actually did make it for the very end and there was some food still available and one of my daughters made lemonade out of lemons and got involved in the final act. We were too frazzled to address it on the spot and just brought it up to the concierge at the resort (AoA). Our total package was refund of Luau (we were on Dining Plan, so two sit-downs credited back to account), 3 "Magic Fast Passes" for two days and $200 credit.

Kudos to your daughter for making it work! Glad you got some of the experience and very glad they took care of you!

Okay, it turns out I have something really cool on my hands, and I was wondering if anyone else had run into these before. We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge this December and because of the construction, and my complete unwillingness to change hotels, we were offered "extra fastpasses" as compensation. I just assumed this would be a 4th pass available for scheduling per day. Well, last night was my fastpass registration date and I was only getting 3 options. But when I looked in the "Itinerary" section of MDE it said that we could "Select up to 2 experiences" per guest for fastpass even after I'd maxed out our days. There didn't seem to be any way to access this, though, so I called Disney today. After confusing the poor CM on the phone for awhile we finally figured out what was going on. Apparently, these are equivalent to the old "golden fastpass" that used to be given out from time to time. I can just walk up to any ride (ignoring teiring restrictions) at any time, and just get in. Twice. Per day.

So, my first question is, has anyone else had these before? Because if the CM I was talking to was wrong, I won't know it until the day I arrive and the super-secret 4th and 5th fastpasses aren't working.

Second, how bad is the construction at WL going to be? Cause this is a pretty nice perk!

We are going to be there around the same time as you and were offered unlimited FP as one of the compensation options for the construction. I assume their system doesn't really know how to deal with 'unlimited' so it'll just keep showing 2 available.

Whaaaaat?! We are going to be at wilderness lodge in December too! All we got was a letter saying there would be construction going on! We never heard about these extra fastpasses. How did you become aware you had them?

My understand is it was very sporadic. Disney contacted the DVC owner we are renting from with various compensation options. I know many people had to contact Disney and push for various compensations. Of course this is all assuming you made reservations before the announcement.

I know when we made the reservations they were semi aware of the construction and tried to persuade us to go to a different resort. We are the dvc owners, so I wonder if we should call them to discuss it or just wait and ask when we check in

You can always call and ask, but I imagine they will say 'we told you to do a different resort'.

I doubt that you've got an "unlimited" number of Fp's. More likely, you'll just get a set number of FP's that can be used at any location on any ride, so they're not "limited" in what you can use them for. If the system is showing that you have two, then that's what you have.

I have a few days of these myself (because of a different issue), and it will say something to the effect of "2 of 2 remaining," or however many you have. But, when they're gone, they're gone.

I think they've only been offering compensation or perks for people who booked before the construction was announced.

We didn't take the 'unlimited fastpass' offer, so I have no idea how it would have looked. I was told it would basically let us make as many FP reservations as we wanted, but like I said, I can't confirm that.

The comp FPs are not a "secret" perk. And I hope guests don't start creating issues to take advantage of them.
Oh, they will! And yet another nightmare will develop that ends this for everyone. I'm starting to believe that Disney is stupid in how they deal with guests. Make two happy and upset 12 others. Not a way to do business in my opinion, yet, they are making more money per day then I can even imagine, so, keep up the good work Disney.

Congrats on getting your golden ticket. Of course, it wouldn't have done us any good since we rarely even use the 3 ones you can book. I'm actually thinking about a WL stay in March but since I know about the construction in advance I'm not expecting anything nor do I want anything. Last May we stopped by one of the DVC booths just for info. and they next thing I knew we were sitting in the office at BWV and getting the spiel and my son and DIL were buying Poly DVC. We didn't get a tour of jack, just pictures on a TV, we didn't get free ice cream (I think the kids got a coke but I don't drink much of anything except water or alcohol so I didn't get one) and we didn't get no super secret fast passes. Seriously, I never get pins in the mail or my email, our bounce back is usually free dining which we never do, we don't get comped for anything or upgraded. I have an AP and we have been going at least every other year for over 30 years. I'm not feeling loved here.

I have had a few extra FP given to me some because of a disability I have and a lot ( and I do mean a lot ) when a CM said a few four letter words to me and it was out of no where. some for the DVC tour I took, it seem like disney gives them out like candy some times

Those golden fastpasses usually have restrictions. They won't tell you up front but usually they aren't good for 7DMT, Toy Story, or Soarin.

It depends on the CM I have had the golden ones or the no strings attached paper ones for any ride I have had them Linked to MDE the last time I got the no strings attached I had them for Epcot and I asked for them to be moved to HS if you know who to ask they can do just about any thing

Yes CMs can do just about anything in GR but each time they do something like a no strings/golden fp+ their name is attached to it. With WL giving away FP+ like candy to some people there won't be many CMs willing to switch it since the more they do it the more it will come under question.

We had 3 extra FP per person last week (4 in our group). Yes, it had to do with the construction at WL (reserved last December, was contacted by GR in July, and it was offered without asking). It was the kind that had no restrictions -- could be used at any park at any time and for any attraction (including 7DMT, Wishes, parades). They worked flawlessly and made the trip more enjoyable during a very busy time. Not so much the number of FPs, but the ability to use the reserved ones at one park and the anytime ones at a different park and not having to worry about tiers was really nice. For example, on one day, we used an anytime FP at Soarin' and at Test Track, then went to HS and used the last anytime at TSMM, and our reserved ones for RnR, ToT and Star Tours. I know we'll never be able to duplicate that kind of flexibility (especially at such a busy time), so we did not take it for granted how fortunate we were.
