Hello! Name your best way to make extra money. I work full time and have three kids at home. Is there anything I can do on the side or later at night? Where is the best place to look for jobs?

Thanks!

My sister has two jobs and sells Scentsy products as her third income. She had so many sales last year that she earned a free trip for two to Hawaii from the company. She and her husband LITERALLY just landed there two minutes ago. :rotfl: She makes pretty good money and now has her own team of sellers under her. She's been selling for a little over a year, I think.

Scentsy, 31 gifts, beachbody if you like to work out. Also selling on Etsy if you are crafty. Some local Moms make cakes or clean houses when their kids are in school.

Another slant would be to just conserve more, eat at home more, cut down on cable and such, go to cheaper stores for clothes and so forth. If you are already using these techniques then you may have to have another job part time.

I'm not trying to be smart with you, but sometimes by saving on what we do already can amount to enough to not have a part time job.

Just learn to get by with less.

See what your neighborhood needs. Can you babysit? How about being someone's personal assistant? There might be elderly folks that would need help with errands and so forth that are willing to pay. Are you willing to do lawn work?

I make about $1000 each year selling my kids outworn things at church consignment sales (usually 2 wkends in the spring and fall).

My family members pay me to do their taxes in April (when our car taxes are due, which is a big help).

Our scout troop just had a big yard sale. 6 families donated items, and we made over $600. I figure on my own, I could make at least $200.

I plan to work at the polls this year, which I think is about $100 for the day, plus they feed you 3 (fast foodie / pizza) meals.

I have a bunch of specialty items to list on ebay.

You can also tutor in your spare time, esp if you have a specialist degree. I am an accountant, and I'm sure I could tutor at the local college / community college if I wanted the type of hours that come with it.

I tutor on the side in addition to my full time job. I'm an engineer who also has writing skills so I work with a lot of kids in the engineering department complete reports, resumes, cover letters, etc. Teaching college age kids allowed me to meet with them after dinner time which worked out nicely.

I deliver newspapers in the VERY early morning. I am home before my kids get up for school and then I go to my day job from 9am-5:30pm.

I work full time also and have been consciously trying to cut down on expenses this year. I traded in my expensive car lease for a Toyota. I recently started using coupons at the grocery store and stopped buying those impulse items. Last month I saved about $250! We stopped eating out so much which saves another $200+ per month. Started using coupon sites and such for entertainment discounts or we just do something that doesn't cost us anything like go to the library or have a picnic. I was surprised at the amounts when I added it up. I thought about working more and I would do it if I really needed to, but, I really don't want to give up any time with my family:)

I sell vintage stuff on Etsy. I go to thrift stores often so when I find cool vintage things I list them on my shop. I made about $400 so far this year.

Whenever I get the urge to moonlight, I remember that one of my college professors used to say a dollar has no smell. It doesn't matter if you make a dollar or save a dollar. But I do love to spend :)

I began using Amazon mTurk after seeing it recommended by someone on this board. There is a forum that helps you find good hits to do, and with that help I have made $730 since the end of February. It is something you can do anytime you have an internet connection. Works for me, as it allows me to be home with my family. I have been slacking for about two months- before that I averaged $10/day.

I just started selling Thirty-One and have made about $250/month so far. Love it and so easy!

I also sell a little on eBay and once in a while on Craigslist.

What kind of work do you do? What's your educational background?

I'm a high school math teacher. Over summers, I tend to pick up some freelance writing gigs, in addition to teaching an SAT prep course. When I was home with my kids, I did a lot of tutoring.

For those who have done tutoring, how did you get started? How do you determine a price? Finally, what age groups are most likely to be looking for tutors?

I tutor in my free time. I'm in finance, but I'm also licensed to teach middle/high school math in my state. I tutor math to mostly high school students. I had the best luck going through a website that matches tutors and students, since I don't have the existing connections. I set my hourly rate by looking at what the other tutors on the site were charging. I initially set my hourly rate a little lower than market, but after a few months, seeing the high demand, I raised my rate.

Tutoring math is fun for me, it allows me to do something that I don't get to do during my 9 to 5 job :) I've also put every dime of my tutoring money to my Disney fund, and this year's trip will be completely saved for in a week or two.

What is Amazon mTurk?
