Extra Bun

And I think we now have the answer as to why the cost of the extra bun increased from less than a dollar to now $3. The cost of the toppings bar is built into the price of the individual meals. Disney is now trying to allocate the additional expense that the extra toppings being used to the individual bun price. You use more toppings (at least in theory) when you top two sandwiches than you do one sandwich.

This is absolutely true! I love the taco salads at Pecos Bill, but I wasn't in the mood for all of the ground taco meat in my salad last time we went so I simply asked for the shell & the price of a single taco salad shell (with absolutely nothing in it) was still about $5. The reason being that you're really paying for the topping bar, not the taco shell itself. It's a make-your-own taco salad by using the toppings bar with the shell, ground beef, and sour cream that they give you on your tray. Just like buying a bun and basically paying for the toppings to customize and/or make-your-own sandwich/burger/whatever.

I just read this entire thread and find it kind of bizarre that people who would make such a fuss over the price of a bun would be buying the overpriced burgers in the first place.

Chances are they won't eat the dry crumbly bun after you buy it anyway but if it's worth it to you not listening to whining just be prepared for a buck or two each time. My dd5 (almost 6) shared doubles with me twice (and pizza 2 other times) while we were there and I didn't hear a whine about it - she had plenty of food and so did I (and I usually gave her my dessert).

BTY my ds8 loved the new buns he ate doubles by himself twice during the trip. But watch out if your kids like ketchup - on our first day at AK, 5 of the 6 kids got hot dogs and put ketchup on them - they all had ketchup all over their custom made t-shirts for the rest of the day (and a few of the adults did too from trying to clean up the mess from the kids).

I don't understand why you wouldn't just cut the burger in half?? Or, just buy 2 single burgers??

Also, I think my kids are really normal and in no way "perfect" and they never, ever would have whined about sharing a double cheesburger that I cut in half. I think maybe people are not giving their kids enough credit. I don't see how food could that important to a kid. I can see sharing a toy, a jacket, shoes, etc. But, a burger? Really? I would try cutting it and having them share before I would ever try the crazy extra bun thing. You may be surprised.

My younger 2 often share meals, at Disney and other places. They like more grown up food so rather then ordering 2 kids meals, we let them split an adult meal. But when we are in Disney they prefer to do this so that there is more money (and room in their tummies) for a yummy dessert. In fact, sometimes I split with DD7 and DD15 and DD10 share or some combination of that so that we can eat and order our own treats for a dessert. (Why not, it's vacation.) :rotfl:

Anyway, OP, maybe if you told your kids that you are having them share so that there is more money and room for a snack then they wouldn't mind at all. I know I'd much rather have my own Dole Whip float or Kaki Gori then burger. ;)

 This thread just tickles me. Tell ya what. Folks that need a second bun but don't want to pay for it can come and sit next to us when we have lunch. My DSs pull the patty off the bun and just eat that..they don't like buns. So there would be two free buns available for someone who needs them..:thumbsup2

You could sell those buns for big bucks you know. :rotfl:

Sharing a Mickey Bar? I am sorry but that just grosses me out. I am not sharing an ice cream bar with anyone. The only exception would be if I had a very young child and they didn't finish it. Other than that I would not be sharing. It is just blech!

I remember in an old thread about this someone said they even had a button on the cash register for "bun".

Yes. There is a cash register button marked BUN and the price is programmed into the register. Buying an extra bun is not a black market transaction. Nor is it a "scam" as some have asserted. It's something Disney allows. If Disney had a problem with selling extra buns, it would stop.

It appears some locations have increased the cost of the extra bun, while others have not. So sometimes splitting a double burger and getting an extra bun is a better deal than buying two burgers, and sometimes it's not.

I've never understood why this topic always results in a lot of nastiness and name-calling. Buy an extra bun, or don't. It is not an ethical issue.

Your kids whine if they have to share?

I was actually thinking the same thing. My kids have had to share many times to include my daughters sharing a room.

As for the bun, I would never think to get an extra bun. My daughters have shared the double cheeseburger before as well as the Pizza from Planet Pizza and have never complained about it. They can each put their own toppings on it and they are getting the same amount. If they would even think of fighting than I do as the peanut butter commercial and let one kid cut it while the other gets her choice of sides first.

This, exactly. As often as not, the complaint is not just about the extra bun (hey, if it's legal and saves money, go for it!); it's that one place charges $.79 while another charges $2.99.

I hardly ever eat a whole mickey bar. My teenage nephew, or even my brother in law, are always willing to help me out and take care of it for me.

We are a close family. I figure we all get each others germs anyhow.

What should I charge?

You wouldn't share one with your DH? I wouldn't share one because I am selfish, but not because it is gross?:confused3 ( I think a young child's cooties would be a lot grosser than the man you married and had kids with!)

What do you do when you have to kiss your DH? :rotfl2:

If his cooties are safe there, I'm sure they're still safe on ice cream.

See how rules change as we grow up? It's not sharing anymore - it's loaning. Share your car with your sister or your friend or whomever, it doesn't matter. We tell our kids to share their prized possessions and not whine about it, yet we don't do the same. If we do 'loan' or 'share' or whatever with someone, we worry about it until we get the item back, wondering what condition it will be in, etc.

And it's not about the burger - it's about sharing in general. Kids have little toys, adults have big toys.

Comparing loaning out a car to a child sharing their toys does not wash. It is highly unlikely a child can get sued for sharing their toys BUT an adult can be sued by a victim if they loan out their car and the loanee wrecks it. I do share as an adult as well but somethings you canNOT safely share.

Seriously?? So you never kiss you dh with an open mouth either then do you??

I hate sharing bottled drinks with my kids but I do share other stuff with them. There are times when I can't finish Ice cream and my teen will take it. I just don't understand how sharing with your own family is "blech" unless they are truely nasty people.
