Extra Bun

THIS IS THE BUDGET BOARD PEOPLE!! If you want to comdemn those who pinch pennies in any way we can...go to the FLAUNT IT board! I'm sure your cost saving measures are ridiculous to other people!

We have even been known to split Mickey bars.:thumbsup2

We always share Mickey Ice Cream Bars, since I only like to eat Mickey's Ears...my husband eats the rest. :goodvibes

At Disney we pretty much share all food (except sit down--but sometimes at sit down we will switch plates halfway through)

I don;t even buy the burger. I just use the fixins bar to make myself a nice salad for free!;)

Yeah, okay, we hear you. No need to shout.

I agree with Poohbug:
I don't care if you want to buy an extra bun-just don't get whiney when Disney jacks up the price because everyone is trying to get a free meal.

We always share stuff but I've never ordered an extra bun. I doubt that I ever will since the buns are so bad now anyway. But we share drinks and fries and snacks.

Well, except for one thing. No one had better lay a finger on my Mickey bar. ;)

lol, would that be the resort board?:rotfl:

saving money isn't bad. sharing isn't bad. we do a lot of sharing when we have little ones around. the extra bun, well, i won't comment about that again...:rotfl:

i'm all about sharing mickey bars and dole whips. then we get to have them more often, and not clean up as much melted ice cream!

I never uynderstood why don't you just cut it in half? seems a lot simpler. that's what we do.

Really? You never understood why someone might want a whole single burger of their own instead of half of a double burger? You seriously don't see the difference? Bizarre.

When the kids were smaller we frequently did the double burger/extra bun thing. As a matter of fact, we would order two double burger meals and two extra buns and all four of us would have our own burger, topped the way we like, and share the drinks and fries.

I can only spend each dollar once. If I save a couple of bucks each day on lunch, well, that means I can spend that money somewhere else on a different treat or souvenir later in the day. Being thrifty is what has allowed our family to have 4 trips to Orlando and a brand new house. It's not a matter of not being able to afford our own burger meals...but if two meals and two buns was enough to feed our family, why on earth would I spend more? Why does anyone care what someone else orders at a restaurant?

I'm not trying to be negative, but I wonder the EXACT same thing. The condiments, topping bar, and water are free, but if you really want two full burgers, then simply order two full burgers. I'm not wagging my finger in the air at anyone, because we've shared a Disney double bacon cheese burger before, but we simply cut the burger in half & 'voila' we each get a full bacon cheese burger. Add stuff from the toppings bar & it's way bigger than a burger that I'd eat at my own house. I'm always pinching pennies and cutting coupons, but I don't expect anything for free (or almost free) unless it's double coupon day & the item it buy-one-get-one free, lol.

Did you ever think that maybe they are charging more money for a bun because Disney has caught on to this scam? Soon they will start charging money for the fixins bar. It is much easier to cut something in half.

do they sell a rubbermaid container for that?

the ultimate cheapie is saw was a family that ordered one fry and loaded it down with a salad and fixings to feed 4. i think they were attemptine to recreate free figaro fries.

ps. i didn't know anyone reads sigs! too funny. i don't have a need to change anyone in this conversation, just stating my own opinion. maybe you need to work your own program.:)

Is that the same as asking for, and paying for an extra bun? I see the wink yes, but it seems some people think buying an extra bun is the same as 'pulling one over' on Disney. (which I don't get).

And if you feel buying an extra bun instead of another meal is a bit shady, how is sharing other foods not? I mean, wouldn't Disney rather you buy 2 Mickey bars rather than share? Is that cheating the system? How is sharing some foods ok, but others not?

Just something to think about...

ETA: In fact, doesn't buying an extra bun instead of just cutting the burger in half (which has been deemed an acceptable sharing method) make a profit for Disney? why is that worse?

lol, figured i ought not comment.

you know these were the same folks who tried to get the kitchen sink with the meal vouchers.

*Disclaimer* I don't care if you get a bun or not.

Would any of you extra bunners go to McDonalds or the diner etc. and ask for an extra bun? Isn't that the same thing? The kids meals cost about the same as a happy meal. I am just curious. I get trying to save a few bucks but do you do it all the time or just in WDW? TIA!

I believe in most markets the double cheeseburger is $1, here it is like $1.69. Much less expensive than a WDW cheeseburger.

I'm not an extra bunner, but really don't care what other people do with food they have paid for.

Scam??? Why else would anyone buy an empty bun? If they weren't okay with it, why would they sell a bun?

I was just about to type that all out, but you did it for me :thumbsup2
Exactly, especially your added part

I guess we will all know who to thank when the price of dole whips and mickey bars go up...all those people cheating the system by sharing one instead of buying 2

And I think we now have the answer as to why the cost of the extra bun increased from less than a dollar to now $3. The cost of the toppings bar is built into the price of the individual meals. Disney is now trying to allocate the additional expense that the extra toppings being used to the individual bun price. You use more toppings (at least in theory) when you top two sandwiches than you do one sandwich.

I remember in an old thread about this someone said they even had a button on the cash register for "bun".

I've never done the extra bun thing at Disney, but I can tell you that my DD is a kid who loves bread. She often will eat just a bun (never at Disney though). I remember one time when my DD was little and my mom was watching her, she took her to McDonalds. My DD asked for a "plain hamburger". That is what my mom ordered and got a hamburger with no ketchup, etc. My DD opened it up and started crying saying she wanted a "plain hamburger" and my mom couldn't figure out what was going on. Finally my older DD had to tell my mom that she just wanted a bun!!!
