Express Pass -- A Painful Experience

We had out of state friends visiting, and we went to USO last Sunday, the 20th. (Four adults, two of which are seniors)
But there was a definite glitch in the Express Pass system. And I am wondering how normal this is for USO.
First we went in and wanted to get Express Passes for The Mummy, and then start at the back of the park and go forward.
DH and & have PAPs. Our friends each had a non-hopping day ticket. We were told our friends could also get Express Passes. (Not the ones you pay extra for. The Express Passes equal to Disney's Fast Pass.)
DH and I easily got our EP for The Mummy ride. Our friends could not, and it appeared no one not using day tickets could. The others we saw just gave up in frustration.
Not me. ;) It took two CMs, and about 15 minutes of waiting, but I got someone out to the machines to get passes for our friends too.
The trick in this case, for anyone who also has trouble: rather than swipe the tickets, as you may a debit/credit card, we had to rub them on the scanner at the bottom of the machine. There is an opening near the bottom of the machine that looks similar as if change was dispensed.
By then enough time had passed that all our tickets were not for the same entry time. The CM asked us to wait and he went backstage. He returned and wrote us out Express Passes, and took the ones we had. (Considering the time we wasted and our trouble I think he should have given that to us in addition.)

Near MIB, we tried getting Express Passes again. sigh... What an ordeal. I could write a long drawn out story. But suffice to say it was even worse than our earlier EP experience.
This time there was a CM nearby. But she was rude and abrupt, and accused DH of trying to cheat the system. Nor did she apologize when she realized their system was down and everyone trying to get EP there could not. We just happened to be the first the system crashed on. DH got his EP. During mine, the system crashed and displayed a blue Fatal Error screen. The system acted as if I had a EP. But I never got one. And this happened to everyone at the same time.
The rubbing of our guest's tickets at the bottom of the machine did not work here. They only received EPs because the CM got some from a machine.
With her help we finally each got an EP for MIB. But our entry times were HOURS apart. (Four different EP with three different timeframes to enter.)
We mentioned this to her and she said we would not have a problem as the CMs were use to the EP system ?jumping times?.

She was right on that. What was even stranger is at MIB they did not even take our EPs. We could have used them again, and probably for each timeframe. But we only rode it once.

Overall a great day. But is their Express Pass system always that bad? Usually we go when there is not much of a wait, or use the Single Rider's line.

We used it in Jan with our PAP's with no problems at all.
