Expose on WDW & Cast Members?

I'm sorry if I do find it to be a bit shocking. I have always thought of WDW as a place where morals were strongly in tact. I'm a college student, and all around me I see kids with absolutely no morals, who get drunk practically every day, have promiscuous sex, and do drugs like it's absolutely nothing. I'm not conservative by any means, but I hate that people (especially kids, teens, and the early 20s crowd) lack such moral values. Here I was thinking that maybe I wasn't the only one, that maybe in some places (such as WDW), kids my age actually respect themselves, but maybe I was wrong. I felt like I could escape all of my surroundings when I go to WDW, but I guess it is the same everywhere. How sad. I also would think that Disney would enforce the rules more, given it is an amusement park aimed for families. Knowing this, the magic does kind of disappear for me. To see that no one else really cares makes me sad, too - doesn't anyone care about morality anymore? Forgive me for having an opinion, though. :confused3

You're walking into dangerous territory with this post.. Definitions of "morality" widely differ amongst people and its quite impolite to accuse people of being amoral just because their beliefs don't align themselves with yours.

People were saying it was OK for the CMs to have promiscuous sex and do drugs. That's immoral, and you can flame me all you want. It does not change what it is.

Hey now! Without imposing our morals on others, where would politics be today?!? Ah, but I seriously appreciate all the cast members who go out of their way to make my vacation magical. What you do on your time is your business. Besides, to be able to smile through that 1000th daily chorus of "it's a small world", you've gotta be gettin some... pirate:

Now then.... ::Settles into rocking chair, grabs a Coke, churro, and glow necklace:: Let the fireworks begin! :cheer2:

Where did you think CM's came from? It's a little known fact that under the kennels at WDW (kind of like utilidors), there are secret nurseries. Did you ever notice you rarely see any pregnant CM's? Just when they're about to "show", Disney "relocates" them to these underground bunkers until they give birth. Then, for the next 16 years, the baby CM's are raised in that special Disney way, to become CM's of the future.

Until that time, Disney has ways of keeping them busy. Who do you think was actually making all that Disney merchandise, anyway? Gotta keep costs down!

Now we know the secret, the Small World sound track isn't a recording...it is beamed in live from under the kennels. LOL

It never ceases to amaze me that some people have nothing better to do than worry about what goes on in OTHER peoples bedrooms.

Well let's jump on for a ride with this one! I have to say as one of the original college program cast members 20 plus years ago, it was ALL ABOUT the sex and drugs and rock and roll after you got back from work. Penny beer nights, trailer hopping, you name it. College age cm's are not any different than any other college students. Some of them are going to be special--of course. But when you employ tens of thousands of people you cannot hire all moral, good hearted, patient and generous human beings with integrity. You can try. And we would all like to believe that Disney is able to secure a larger than average portion of people who fit this bill. My nighttime activities did not stop me from doing a great job there, I never missed a days work. Would I like my children to follow in my footsteps? No way. I give thanks every day for my creator watching over me in that time and keeping me safe. But it is what it is. Young people, most on their own for the first time, experimenting with life. Some experiment dangerously and others do not. No judgements here.

It never ceases to amaze me how people try to justify their lack of morals.

But, just WHY would anyone need to "JUSTIFY" what two adults do in the privacy of their own bedrooms to anyone else? It's NOT anyone elses business, is it?

The OP had an opinion about some behind the scenes book/article coming out. It's about disney college program age kids. Why the not so nice remark? Necessary? I think it's more than appropriate to bring it up on DISNEY board, huh? You read the thread and had to comment, so how off base is the OP for posting it??? :confused3

What never ceases to amaze me is posters ripping other posters when they still feel compelled to post to "said thread." :rolleyes1

While I do not agree that this article/book will ruin the magic for me, plenty will read with interest. Hello  ...Disney with all its family values etc vs. drugs and sex from Disney College program Castmembers? How could some people NOT be interested? ;) If some cannot see honestly how THAT could be upsetting to some then that attitude is as outta touch as those that are shocked to discover it goes on!

I finished the Disney War and I will say that kind of ruined things for me to a certain degree. Not the...Disney is a business and makes money point, duh...but the Roy Vs. Walt family feud that still exists today. THAT bummed me a bit. I won't go into it anymore than that less it possibly ruin it for others. ;) But, oh yea...that did tarnish the magic a touch... :badpc: :badpc:

Well ... it kind of confuses me as to why you have changed your opinion of the entire Walt Disney company based on an article you have not yet read. Isn't that kind of putting the judgement before the proof? Also, you don't know how many of the college kids on the college program are actually part of the "low moral" group you are concerned about. There are thousands of kids in the CP each year. If the majority of them were carrying on as these types of "expose" articles suggest, don't you think that this would have made big news before now? Like any college campus, there will always be an element of the group who partake in extreme behavior. Disney has no way of knowing if College Program Kid A will be a trouble-maker or a straight-and-narrow kid. It's not like they can ask at the interview, "Excuse me ... will you be having sex on your balcony and drinking all night?" And even if they did, what applicant is going to say, "Yes."

Disney has rules and policies, but they cannot control human behavior. They cannot predict which kids will denegrate the moral fiber of the others, and simply putting the name Disney on something doesn't mean that it's squeaky-clean from wall to wall. There are such things as personal freedoms, and if Disney were to establish a "Big Brother" type of monitoring system, would that destruction of personal freedom be worth it?

I think it's unfair of you to assume that -- because you heard about an article that supposedly has some shocking information in it about Disney CM behavior -- the people working and living at Disney don't care about morality. There are a great number of kids your age working at Disney who do have respect for themselves and do not take part in the partying that is inevitable in situations where large numbers of young people gather. There are great numbers of CP kids who come to WDW to do their jobs, have fun, meet people, and enjoy Disney. I've never understood why people insist on focusing on the small minority of people who are taking rule breaking to the extreme while ignoring the majority of people who are not.

It's really sad that it is more acceptable to get drunk every night, pop pills, smoke pot, and wake up next to strangers than to have respect for myself and to hope that there are others like me. What's even sadder is majority of the people saying this are parents, parents who I doubt would want their children acting this way and who would want their children to be...well...like me! (Of course, they'll be hypocrites this way.) :confused3

Honey, I pray that my son never makes a statement HALF as sanctimonious as any of your statements here today.... :sad2:

Shall we address you as SAINT lfama from here on out?

Leota - I agree with Ifama...

I do drink in college, but thats it. I don't do drugs, never have, and don't wake up next to strangers. A lot of people do need to check their morals... sometimes they leave them at the door ( or dont have any at all ) :sad2:

No one has yet answered why someone elses "morals" are anyone elses business.
