Explosions at the finish-line of the Boston Marathon

I don't have any race t-shirts yet, but am planning to wear my running training t-shirt tomorrow. I'm not up to running 4.09 miles yet, but I plan to walk it on the weekend. I know it's not much just me doing it on my own, but this has really affected me, and I want to show my support somehow.

This is just so sad. The thing that is really getting me is the 8 year old boy. My kids are 10, 9 and 5 and I just can't imagine something like that happening to them. I wish I had a race shirt, I would wear it. I just started running again, but I want to try to do the 4.09 miles. Keeping the families of the victims in my prayers.

I'm at Disney now. DH told me about this when I called last night. So sad why would anyone want to do this. I brought a race shirt to wear as a knock about the room shirt that I'll now be proudly wearing in the parks today. Thoughts and prayers to all the runners and their loved ones and anyone effected by this terrible attack.

I was out today already and saw many runners in my area. It was really inspiring. This is such a terrible tragedy. Senseless.

Wearing my race shirt, as are my kids. DH is wearing blue and yellow.

Was thinking about the marathoners and victims during my run this morning:(.

I think the best way to show support for the runners is to go out and sign up for a race. I hope no one lets what happened yesterday keep them away from races they want to do or keeps their family away from the finish area.

The events of yesterday will not change my running plans in the slightest. The saddest sentiment I heard yesterday was that someone wouldn't let their kids wait for them at the finish of their next race. That is when the people who do these things win, when we let them change us.

I hope the commentary in the next few weeks is record numbers of race registrations and packed finishing areas at all the races.

I agree, we can't let them win by stopping what we love.

And yet, I've already heard from loved ones that they hope I won't run any 'big races like Boston' because they 'just aren't safe anymore'. I'm hoping to convince folks that Disney has more security, and is somehow safer, but I don't know if that's true. Then again, I don't know if anyplace is safe anymore.

I got the exact opposite yesterday. The first text I got from my girlfriend after she found out was "Now you HAVE to qualify and race Boston".

Lots of people sent texts or messages to make sure I wasn't there but I didn't get any "don't run anymore" sentiments, not even from my mom who tends to overreact to these kinds of things.

I had a lot of friends say they were glad I wasn't there but I think that is just human nature. I also think they all understand I will run more marathons and will support me. DH will still come cheer me on and he will continue to bring the kids. We can't live our lives ruled by fear.

Wearing my RnR Dallas shirt today. Getting 4.09 done as well

Ohana. We are family- no one messes with my family!

My mom is usually the paranoid one to discourage us from going anywhere when things like this happen. But by that logic, we shouldn't (sadly) go see movies in theaters anymore or (even more sadly) send our children to school anymore, or travel by plane, or visit major cities...

Next year's big races will probably be even safer due to ramped up security in response to this.

EDIT: I'm supposed to run tonight anyway. I'll see what I can pull out of the laundry pile to wear today.

Well said. I fear for my family more than myself, but I'm pretty sure they will be there to cheer me on in the future.

My mom works for an airline that was raffling a guaranteed entry and I told her to enter it for me. Last night we mentioned to each other how happy we were that she didn't win.

I've been thinking this exact thought all morning...I've been on a "break" with running since PHM trying to nurse my back and feet back to pain-free but all I can think about today is finding something to register for. This was obviously a topic in my bootcamp class last night, we've all kind of become runners together which has been really fun to watch happen...now we're all looking for something fun and local to sign up for together...I hope something like this catches on. And I've also been wondering how do we ask family/friends to come out and support us on race courses now? I know mine will be there for me regardless, but that'll just be something else on my mind now :sad2:

Ran a total of 5. But stopped running at 4.1 and walked the remainder.
Happened to grab my Donald Half long sleeve today and didn't even realize the yellow and blue were Boston colors. I got lots of looks and nods and thought it was just friendly hellos. :grouphug:
