Explosions and shootings in Paris

I totally get the whole probable cause/search warrant thing and now there is a state of emergency and laws are likely a little more lenient, it just seems like 414 raids is excessive. Don't get me wrong, I completely support it, but it is frightening to think that there were 414 places that they either didn't know about before or couldn't manage to get enough probable cause in the past year to search BEFORE the attacks.

Given that they only (apparently) managed to arrest 60 people in 414 raids, tells me there might have been good reason they couldn't get enough probable cause to search some of those locations in the past year.

I get the frustration, but I think having a terrorist's cell phone was an immediate game changer.

If that's what brought this down, I think they are going to need to change the syllabus in Terrorist Training 101 and teach their future wannabes about burner phones!

That's very true and I hadn't taken that into consideration.

Press conference in an hour. They might tell us more about who they've caught

I'm a little discouraged that the potential of game change is minimized by release of that information publicly.
ISIS would have to be stupid if they thought agencies were not hacking their phones and computers where possible.

Agencies have even created honey traps on Skype to install malware on their PCs etc.

Why, why, why do decent people cover up for these monsters? Listening to CNN right now so I can't provide a printed link but people in the neighborhood knew this criminal mastermind was in the area. It sounds like more than one saw him. They even say he went to the mosque early, before the raid. The reporter said that when asked why they did not report this to anyone they were "evasive" in their reasons.

I just do not get it. I want to believe that almost all of these people are peaceful and only require our understanding but then something like this. And he can go to a house of worship in full view and not fear that someone would turn him in! How is that peaceful, decent or many other words I want to use. And these people caught last night were in the process of killing more innocents. Excuse my outrage but you cover up terrorists, you enable them to kill even more. The blood they spill is on your hands also.

It could be out of fear. These leaders usually know the families of those close to the mosque and the people who worship there. Would you say anything if the leader of ISIS in your area told you that if you talk he will brutally murder you children slowly while you watched?

Absolutely they know that. It still isn't a good idea to provide them a laundry list about exactly what we have or potentially know or don't know. For all they know even burner phones have been blown up with the suicide bombers -- and some probably were. It is absolutely a tactical advantage to both cause your enemy to use new resources because they think you might have compromised old ones and simply raise the level of doubts and uncertainty in their minds. Sun Tzu was right, war is indeed an art.

The landlord of the apartment was arrested while being interviewed on TV. He claimed he didn't know who they were
Of course I have no proof but I absolutely think this guy is lying. According to the interview more than a few neighbors knew who he was so it is hard to think of these guys as innocents.

Absolutely.

Would you feel any safer living near someone that said that to you?

I don't think you can compare the two. People may of been anti-Jewish out of pure prejudice. The Jews were no threat to anyone. People in this country are not against the Syrians because they are Syrian, they are concerned with extremists being brought into the country with these refugees. Americans are scared, and they should be.
Scared of what though? There's never been an attack perpetuated by a refugee. The UN screens them before they even get to the US or Canadian screening. Look at the states that are saying they want to ban Syrian refugees - why are they the states with the lowest Muslim populations? People were scared of Jews. They were worried about the economy. They refused children - just like how one of your governors says he would refuse a 3 year old. Are people right to be scared of three year old because of their nationality or religion? How is that not xenophobia?

Apparently the girlfriend who blew herself up is also his cousin. (I will resist the easy regional joke.) I would think that will make the DNA analysis harder. I would assume they only have body parts so they may not know what part belongs to each one.

They want to make sure that the refugees are adequately vetted so they don't allow more terrorists to come in under the guise of being refugees like they have in the past.

... and I don't think Michigan and Massachusetts qualify as states with the lowest Muslim populations.

I believe it's likely they have his fingerprints.

That is a very hard question but having threat would terrify me no matter what I did. I hope I would do the right thing.

More involved, but certainly not impossible by any means. If that information is correct it will also help corroborate the overall findings as they will be able to trace certain familial markers right there.

We might indeed have one or two Muslim Michiganders.

I have no clue what I would do either but I imagine it is similar to how the Mob use to be able to function in broad day light for a very long time. Usually if you keep quiet you are "safe" but if you talk your kid suddenly gets shot in a drive by. So out of fear people kept their nose to the ground and ignored the funny comings and goings. ISIS is much worse then the Mob when it comes to mass casualties at once but I bet they function pretty much the same way. Follow our rules and we will protect you, step one foot out of line and it is the end.

I was looking at mainly the map showing the south. I could be wrong in that regard.

More terrorists to come in under the guise of refugees like they have in the past? You do realize that has never once happened. There has never been a refugee who came in an perpetuated a terrorist attack. And these states aren't saying that they want to make sure they're properly vetted (which they have to be, to meet refugee status, it's some of the most intensive vetting there is), they're saying they want to ban them. They're not saying they want to ban terrorists. They're saying they want to ban Syrian muslims.
