Explain Add-on's

Hi - Could someone explain how you add on to a contract? I would like an additional 150 points and assumed I had to do it at WLV, HH or VB since OKW (our home) is sold out. Or I could buy a resale with 150 pts at OKW but it will be unlikely that I will get the same use year. From reading some old posts, I got the idea people were adding on to their home resort even if it was sold out. Am I just not reading correctly? If I can add on at OKW is it at the $72 pp? Would I get the 150 points from the year 2000? Thanks so much for helping me understand!!

Add ons are typically allotments of points that are less than 150 points and do not stand alone. They must be attached to an underlying contract of 150 points are more. They also must be the same use year as the original contract. While there has been some discussion of whether one can buy an "add on" without being an owner otherwise and also that in some cases an add on can have a different use year than the underlying contract, I think you should assume that you must own 150 points the same use year as your add on points.

If you buy another contract (resale or through DVC) that is 150 points or more, it will stand alone and you do not need to worry about the use year being different or which is the home resort. I think it's smarter to have 2 smaller contracts than one larger one anyway.

As Dean says a 150 point contract will stand on its own but you might have two different use years. I would call one of the resellers and tell them you want an add on to OKW with your use year and tell them how many points you want. You may pick up a resale before it is ever listed. Of course you might want a different home resort with your add on but you would have to keep the same use year unless it was a 150 point contract.
You can't add on the OKW thru DVC since it is sold out but you can by way of resale and at considerably less than $72. per point.
