Do any of the legal experts know if DVC has the right to extend the expiration of some Use Years, but not others? It feels like all other Use Years points were just devalued because it will be so much harder to get reservations now, but they didn't get any extension on their points. On top of that everyone is more restricted now with the 50% borrowing cap.
Yeah, I had a mid-June ressie still thinking it was possible on the March 31 banking deadline. But I cancelled last week. My biggest concern was getting 260 borrowed points re-deposited into next year. I'm only losing 13 2019 UY points, so it's not a big deal. Maybe I'll get them back if they extend to August UY down the road.
I'm not complaining for myself. As I mentioned earlier in that post I'm benefiting. That doesn't change the fact that I feel bad for other members who may not have been impacted at all and now their membership is much more restricted. You guys own it, and you guys are all sharing the burden of the problem in proportion to your ownership stake. It’s a fair solution in that sense.
To me, because they didn’t include more than April and June UY, I see it as a good sign that we may see resorts open in June.
June UY here and I'm happy and exactly why I didn't want to transfer to RCI.
Anyway can someone clarify whether we have to wait for DVC to cancel our May reservation before points get extended or can I cancel my May reservation now and rebook in the future!
Thank you Disney!
You're complaining about some perceived issue that hasn't even happened yet. People are thrilled they aren't losing thousands of dollars and you are here basically saying they shouldn't be doing this because your points may possibly be slightly devalued? I'm just not sure it's the time for that discussion my points have dropped in value even more than yours as I now have six months to use them but the solution cannot be perfect.
That's what I'm afraid of. I could rebook for January now which would take less points, but I really wanted to wait to make the decision yet, but would need to do so before 7 months hit to get my home resort. I guess I may be have to make a decision about August shortly after all. From the way it reads, you’d be locked out. It would be considered a new reservation.

Thanks. That was going to be my question as we put the points into RCI rather than losing them. Good to know we can get them back. The website indicates that those that deposited into RCI can pull the points back. Maybe not many took that option.
The question is whether what they did is even legal. I am not a lawyer so that is why I asked. I know there are some very smart legal minds on these boards and thought some of them might chime in.
I know it’s not the perfect solution but maybe you can find someone to transfer the points you need? They sold these memberships on the promise of banking and borrowing, so pardon me for being very annoyed. I was planning on borrowing points for our reservation next year, of which now I'm screwed out of being able to do that. Call me selfish, but now I will have a very heartbroken little boy when he finds out he isn't celebrating his birthday in WDW next year as promised.
We all knew that whatever was done would have both short term and long term consequences.
So, it seems they tried to balance the two by not totally suspending borrowing,...which they could...and also giving a little extra life to points that would have expired,
At least the policy does include what will happen with reservations that have points past the banking window if resort closure continues,
This is what I meant when I said I felt sorry/guilty of the cost other members are experiencing now to get some of my points back. They sold these memberships on the promise of banking and borrowing, so pardon me for being very annoyed. First, I'm really happy for the folks who benefited from this on the point extension side of things.
Second, I'm not sure if I should be bummed or not about the point borrowing. Our next trip is planned for October 2021. We must borrow all of our 2022 points in order to make that trip. I don't suppose it matters until December when the 11 month window opens but it sure would be good to know how long they plan to keep that restriction in place.
