I am currently not a member of DVC. I had an approved contract for SSR with Disney but I canceled it today because I REALLY want to own at BCV or BWV. The bad part is that I have tried to get financing from the timeshare finance people and with my credit, I cannot get approved. Also, home equity is not an option.

Anyway, here is the question: I have the opportunity to purchase 35 points at BWV for which I have enough cash to do. Can I then get on the waiting list for BWV add-ons/ That way I can finance through Disney, who approved me for credit, and get the points for the location that I really want!!! Is there a flaw in my reasoning???

I know that the closing costs on a 35 point contract are killer, but, spread out over 35 or so years, I am not too concerned. I don't want SSR because I believe that, for the most part, it will be easy to book whereever I own. But the standard views at BWV or the summertime studios at BCV are harder to come by. Any opinions on this plan are welcomed. I am flame retardant!!!!

Tammy, if you purchase the 35 points you will be able to add on thru Disney and use their financing for 50 points or more. If you purchase less than 50 points you have to pay cash.

If this is what you really want, then purchasing a small contract is a good way to start and become a member.

Wow!! Tammy I am really surprised!! But, if you feel that way, you are truly making the right choice.

You have two options:
1)Buy the BWV 35 pt, and then add on via DVC....that is a VERY good plan.

or

2) Buy BWV direct from DVC. I KNOW they are sitting on some points for at least 5 different UY's right now. It is a secret that very few know...but, you CAN buy sold out resorts from DVC for your initial contract from the VERY beginning...someone posted not too long ago that they did just that.

Have you asked your guide about this? What did he/she say? If they told you that it couldn't be done they are either wrong, or lying. You might want to get a new guide.

But, if your guide knows they are going to lose a sale...maybe they will find you the points.

PLEASE let me know how this turns out!!!

can you get a second mortgate on your house?

that is way several people who have gone through resaler did it.

BCV is not difficult to get in the summer time - I just make a reservation for a studio for nights July 5 and 6th - not a problem at all.

I think it and BWV would be difficult to get during the food/wine festavial and the first two weeks of Dec (of course all the DVC resorts at WDW are difficult - the first two weeks of Dec).

I know about the standard views - believe me - I have kept my 50 points at BWV for just the standard views for a few years now. Plus renting these points is very easy....

If you have 35 points with an April UY, does your add on have to have the same use year? What if you don't care about that. In my case, I would use the larger add-on contract for most 11 month home resort bookings and therefore I won't care about the different UY. Are same use years required???

If you add on through Disney, then I think they require that you purchase an add on with the same UY as the original contract.....

If you add on via resale, you don't have to match UY's.... :flower:

If your add-on is at least 150 pts, you can pick any UY you want. If your add-on is less than 150, you can only get the same UY that you already have.

Good luck,

Good advice from all, I have a call into my guide...I want to see what they can do about my predicament.....Thanks Tink10 and Beca and all!!!!!!!!!

I'm asking a question myself... If someone only owns a small amount of points, like the 35 suggested here...does Disney require you to buy an amount that brings you up to 150 if you purchase through them? Wouldn't quite seem fair to let someone buy a small amount on the open market and then add-on a small amount through Disney when they compel other people to buy the full 150. I could see someone collecting small amounts on the resale market but I wasn't sure whether Disney would sell that way.

That is an excellent point PamOKW. I guess i just assumed that once you are a member, you get the same deal as those with 150 points already, however, this is probably something that I should check on before I go this route..... Thanks for the heads up!

That does sound like a possible scenario, Pam.

Also, I am not so sure you don't always have to get the same use year when purchasing from Disney. We had an original 230 point contract, and a year later added on another 150 points. They required it to be the same use year.

We only own 30 points at SSR.

Shortly after closing, our DVC Guide called to welcome us and asked if we had any questions. SInce we bought resale, I was pleasantly surprised by the call and the offer. Our Guide indicated she was there to help.

We have always felt that around 60 to 80 points would be good for us. I inquired about a small add-on and she said no problem.... So, yes, if you start out with 35 points via resale (and get into the system), you can then add-on thru DVC for as little as 25 points.

IIRC, 25 points is the minimum.
50 minimum for financing.
100 minimum for the discount at SSR.

We have not added yet, still thinking. Our little 30 points will put us in a studio anywhere for 5 nites in the fall every other year. That's all we really NEED..... But what we WANT is a different story!

Pam, as I understand it, existing members/owners can purchase as little as 25 points thru DVC. Yeah, I guess it's kinda like cheating to bypass the 150 point minimum when buying a small resale.... but the small resale makes one a member - then that member has the same rights as any other member.

arcruiser is right... once you have a contract "in your name", you are a member like everyone else. There are no different rules for you because your contract is small. My mom has 50 VWL points. She is thinking of adding on. She can add on as little as 25 points.

I am really glad to hear it!!! That opens up my possibilities a great deal.

If I add on 50 points with an August Use year, and the closing is in April, will there be 50 points on the contract to use right then and there before august or by august???
