Has anyone ever flown AirTran Airways??? My DH and myself are both severly afraid of flying and have only ever flown US Airways, I have heard alot of people having trouble with them....any info would help!! Thanks.

BTW...I can save $100.00 flying with AirTran~$353.40 for two round-trip tickets
US Airways~$455.40 for two roundtrip tickets.
With AirTran I would have to leave from Disney @6:35P(flight time)
With US Airways I would have to leave Disney @8:50p(flight time)

We're not using USAir for the first time in December, going AirTran instead. Got tickets PIT/MCO for $135 each. I did a search and most people had good experiences with AirTran. They have a new fleet of planes (717's). The price was the main driver, but I was worried about USAir cancelling flights. In fact, the return flight we usually take was recently taken off their schedule.

My DW and I have flown Airtran out of Pit and out of Canton/Akron and have had no problems what so ever.

We just got tickets about 3 weeks ago. PIT to MCO straight through for 59.00 each way. (not bad)
flight out @ 8:30 am
flight home @ 7:30pm
Iwould recommend Airtran plus there cancelation policy is only 50.00 instead of 100.00 that most carriers charge

enjoy your vacation :bounce: :Pinkbounc

hope this helped ?

I'm flying AirTran out of Philly this April. I've never flown them before and I was a little hestitent because the planes are smaller and I heard that Airtran is the old Value Jet.
But, the planes are newer planes. I've heard nothing but good things about this airline. People I talked to really give this airline high marks. So I got a flight for $79 to MCO. Not bad. I'm still waiting on my return flight dates o be released.

I liked Airtran very much until they recently moved our nonstop flight from 9:30am until 2pm and never notified us! Now I am stuck trying to change MVMCP dates. I guess this could happen with any airline, but they've had this schedule for 3 years! Why change it now? Yes, I'll have some cheese with my whine. ;)
Just check your flights from time to time and especially the day before.

Haven't booked yet.....we are really scaredy cats when it comes to flying...I think I'm gonna go with them though. Thanks for the info.:)

...but AirTran is the old Value-Jet company. I was to fly them from Newark, NJ to Dallas via Atlanta and once I found this out I cancelled immediatly. :scared1:
Switched to Delta and had a great experience. Of course my company was footing the bill, not me. I will be flying Jet Blue out of Kennedy for my up comming Honeymoon in a few days. I think for now on I will use Delta / Song since they fly out of Newark...getting to Kennedy is a pain.

I have flown Air Tran several times and have had nothing but good experiences with them. They have early direct flights that I took to MCO, with late return flights so we could stay longer!! Our flights always arrived on time, in fact this past May we came in ahead of time!! I wouldn't hestiate to fly with them at all.:D

That would be awful to schedule an early flight and have them change it to 2PM. I scheduled a 3PM flight, and if I got bumped to an earlier time, it would really screw up my plans.
I hope changing flight time like they did to disneyfanz doesn't happen often.
And knowing that this Airline is the former value jet is a little disturbing. But I think that they had to straighten up their act since the old value jet days.
At least I hope they did!

That is exactly the change that happened to our Feb. flight. 9:30a -> 2pm. Bummer. I was looking at our seat assignments when I noticed. I wonder when they would have called us?

I had heard that is one problem with Airtran, but the rest was good. Since it is the only non-stop from ROC, I can't complain too much.

From what I've heard, they have a fleet of almost all new planes. I think Value-Jet used to fly old DC-9's.

AirTran and ValuJet are two seperate companies. AirTran has been around for a long time, and they opperated their own flights using B737-200 aircraft. They then purchased some of ValuJet's aircraft (DC-9-30's) and routes, remaining AirTran. None of these aircraft are in their current fleet, as they only have new B717-200 and B737-700 aircraft.

We booked AirTran thru travelocity- and one of the great perks of booking thru them is you get an email when they have even the slightest change in schedule-

My question is-when are you flying? We leave Oct. 29th, and they changed our return flight about 5 times - from about 11:30am, all the way down to 9:00 am. It's now back at 11:30. so, don't despair-there is a chance they may change it back!

This will be our first Air Tran experience-one negative I heard from people is that their baggage claim at MCO was extremely slow-has anyone else experienced this?

We've flown with them twice now out of Newport News Va. They have been great so far. Haven't noticed taking longer to get luggage down in MCO. Semed about the same from other airlines I've used. We will be flying Airtran in April. I also got an AirTran Visa, with the last trip and points earned so far I have a free round trip with A+ rewards. :teeth:
