Expedition Everest Challenge 2014

I'm new to runDisney events .... Doing PHM in Feb and trying to convince my good friend to come do EEc with me !!!
I'm caught up in the rD fever, medal fever!

Can someone please direct me to where you purchase the runDisney park tickets?

Thanks

There weren't any discounted park tickets for this year's PHM (which I think was really odd), but after I registered for EEC, I was emailed a link to buy the discounted tickets for that race. Hope that helps!

You'll love the Princess! It's so much fun!

We just signed up today -- my 11 year old son and I will be a team (that way he can't beat me as badly as he did in our first 5K together, right? :rotfl:). If anyone hasn't signed up yet and has a Disney Visa, you can get a discount ($15 on the team registration) if you enter the first four digits of your card number.

Dang it, I already registered before I saw your post. I wonder if it's worth contacting RunDisney to see if I can get some kind of refund. I'm guessing no since it's through active.com :( Oh, well. At least I know for next time. Does this work on other RunDisney races too?

Super excited about the Everest Challenge...I've wanted to do this race for years! I've really enjoy the W&D & TOT night time runs. The After Parties are a great time to celebrate.

Does anyone know if they serve alcohol at AK for the after party? Characters?

The TOT After Party was incredible with all the villains. Not sure how scaled back things are for Everest being a 5K. THANKS!!!

I love the night races too! I've seen beer for sale at the after party. I'm not sure about other alcohol since I don't drink. There are some characters. I did TOT in 2012 and I think the EEC after party is slightly smaller but still fun.

What kinda questions?? Like "why is the sky blue??"

Like someone else said, the questions are almost like brain teasers or simple logic puzzles. A couple that I remember are:
-The letters of the answer were really stretched out so you had to turn the clue card to look at it from an angle rather than straight on. (This was pretty easy to figure out.)
-There were 12 letters on the clue card arranged in a circle (like a clock face). When reading the clue "question" it referred to several numbers. I can't remember what it said, but basically you'd see the number then match it with the letter in the corresponding position to figure out the answer.

I saw on the Disney Parks blog that May 1, 2014 is the 25th anniversary of Hollywood Studios so I decided to make my reservation starting April 30 to catch whatever's happening for the anniversary. I was there for the Epcot 30th anniversary fireworks which were amazing! For my 6-day stay, the spring offer was a slightly better price than the RunDisney discount.

I don't know -- I didn't know to try it when I registered for this year's Princess Half. I didn't know if it would work for this race but I figured it couldn't hurt! The spring discount was better for our 2 night stay, too. Thanks for the info on the clues -- I'm not always good at those puzzles but luckily my 11 year old is! :) Now I really can't let him get ahead of me!

If only they were actual AK trivia I'd have done fine. Instead I struggled with a few of the clues. But asked people and waited for DH to catch up so he could solve them ;)

Thanks all for the scavenger hunt info. Not that it will help, but it is nice to know what to expect. We do a 5 mile scavenger hunt on the Las Vegas Strip every year; the things you learn about Strip history and quirky little known spots, wow. Was hopping the EEC would be similar.

Having a tough time deciding on a costume. Are most costumes AK themed or just Disney? Anyone doing a non AK related costume?

I will be doing a disney character costume. Non AK related.

Post race ticket/party question. I am racing this alone. My mom and dad want to come to the post race party with me. But, they may not depending on my dad's work schedule. If I buy them both a ticket, they are non refundable. If I don't, what if they sell out? There are limited tickets svailable, and the race is already 83 percent full. What do I do? :)

It's 94% full now. :)

The Princess Marathon weekend shows separate "fullness" meters (I actually typed "badness" meter first, thank you Lilo :stitch:) for the races and for the "extra" events. I'm surprised the EE page doesn't. Just because the race fills up doesn't mean the after party tickets are all gone, but without it showing how much is still available, it's hard to say if they'd sell out soon, or at all.

Went to register (showing at 94% full) and Active says that both the individual and team registrations are full. So we'll do the family race instead. As a consolation DH said I can register for the DL 10k :)

Does anyone who ran the 2013 EE5K know if the runDisney New Balance shoes were available to the expo?

I asked on the New Balance shoes on the Facebook Everest group and people said yes they were for sale last year and one person said they emailed Disney who said yes they would be there again this year. Hopefully they have all sizes and styles.

I was there for the 2013 run and they were available to purchase. We were going to be back for 2014 but looks like we waited too long to register. So good luck everyone that a going. You will love it!

So. I signed up for my first ever running event and it's the Everest 5K. I have a few questions

I hear this is really a 10k? You do the actual running then the scavenger hunt?
If I drive and leave my bag in my car. Can I get it after the race? Or do I have to check it in

I really want to do the ToT 10-Miler in October. I have never done much endurance running before and I think I am pretty out of shape. Does 10 months to train for the 10-miler seem sufficient? I feel like I am more apt to continue training if I drop $150 on the race.

I've never run Everest before, so I can't help you there, but I do think 10 months is enough training time. I went from having never run in my life to the Princess Half in 11 months. The registration fee didn't motivate me as much as the cost of hotel rooms and plane tickets did! :) Disney races are fun -- despite retiring from running after the PHM in 2012, somehow I'm registered for this year's Princess... and the Everest... and I'm eyeing a Tinker Bell! :)

Did Dopey this year and I'm looking at possibly arranging our family vacation so that I can do the EE5K and the family run as well. Everything I've heard about this race sounds like a lot of fun.

10 months is plenty of time. Map out your training on a yearly calendar and slowly increase your weekly mileage. You'll be surprised by how quickly it increases. Good luck!

My friend ran EEC last year and said it was 6.2 (you run it then go back for the hunt) but I was also told the 3.1 for the hunt isn't "running" so much as getting clues.
