Expedition Everest Challenge 2014

We just signed up today -- my 11 year old son and I will be a team (that way he can't beat me as badly as he did in our first 5K together, right? :rotfl:). If anyone hasn't signed up yet and has a Disney Visa, you can get a discount ($15 on the team registration) if you enter the first four digits of your card number.

We've never done EE or any Disney 5K, although he did a kids' race and I've done the Princess Half. Any advice on running this with a young one welcome!

Even though I changed our May reservation around to do this race, that was before I signed up to do the 5k, 10k and Princess half in February! Now I'm questioning whether or not I want to do this this. Part of my concern is logistics; we're very experienced Disney visitors and DVC members and know how to get around, but we're staying at the BW, and I'm not at all willing to give up my reservation there. But it's not a host hotel. How on earth would I get back to the BW after the race? Park transportation will be closed. Wait for a taxi with thousands of my new best friends? Sounds like a bit of a deal breaker to me. Nope, not planning on renting a car either. Any ideas?

Last year following the race they had buses running to all hotels. They were picking people up the bus turn around for all if the after party guests.

My dh and I are thinking of signing up for this race. Thanks for the tip about the discount. Every little bit helps!

I asked when I made the reservation if the pricing was better on Monday if I could cancel/change the reservation! I just wanted to be sure I had SOME discount locked in just in case. The tickets are a great price! Haven't bought them yet, just in case a package promotion comes out next week. I think the room only discounts on 1/6 combined with the discounted tickets will end up being the best deal.

Made our room reservations today. Turned out the runDisney discounted tickets with the DW Spring discount rates was the best deal. Package tickets were more expensive than runDisney, and runDisney resort reservations are more expensive than the current room only promotion. And we are using points to pay for our airfare! :cool1:

The Spring Discount gave us a better room rate too as well as more flexible dates! I am using the Spring package tickets because we want 10 day tickets and the runDisney tickets max out at 7 days. But for 7 days or less, the runDisney tickets are a much better deal!

Are you staying at a host resort, Bakers? The host resorts rates they quoted me through runDisney were less than the promotional rates ... not by much though. Animal Kingdom was less through the promotion. Wonder if I need to call and speak to a different cm?

We are staying at Pop. The Spring package price was slightly better once I priced it out but I can't tell you by how much because my pricing sheet is on my work computer. :rolleyes1

Now I am questioning my math and if it really was a better price!:crazy2: I will have to crunch the numbers one more time to be sure!

In our case, Pop was already sold out for the promo rate (at least it was last time I talked to them) so I had to book part of our trip at CBR which made the Spring package a much bigger savings in my case because I was able to get all of our nights at Pop. A Moderate stay really wasn't in the budget anyway....

The percentage finally moved up from 53%! I'm not sure if I'm waiting on it to get to a certain percentage, or if I'm waiting until the price increase next Tuesday lol Me and my husband are planning to run as a team. This will be our first Run Disney race, and my first attempt at a 5k. I caught the running bug in December:)

Super excited about the Everest Challenge...I've wanted to do this race for years! I've really enjoy the W&D & TOT night time runs. The After Parties are a great time to celebrate.

Does anyone know if they serve alcohol at AK for the after party? Characters?

The TOT After Party was incredible with all the villains. Not sure how scaled back things are for Everest being a 5K. THANKS!!!

I am finally registering for the EEC today! We booked airfare Monday as it went down the lowest I have ever seen. After you register is there a link for discounted park passes? We are staying at AKL Kidani villas, super excited as we have yet to stay there in all our years of trips. My 7 year old daughter is wavering on running the kids race but I am going to register her anyways in case she decides she does.

We are staying at the AKL, and I think the DW spring discount was more than runDisney because it is a Deluxe resort, and my run partner (who is NOT paying for the trip) insists on a savanna view because, "why else would you stay at the AKL if not to see the animals!"

Good monning! Joining the thread!

Long time Dis'r, and Disney Bride. My husband and I are signing up for our first RunDisney event EE!!

I have never done any kind of event, so I will need all the advice I can get!

Anybody do the EEC kids races in 2013? I saw several Facebook posts indicating that the 2012 kids races were very disorganized. Wondering if there were improvements in 2013?

Our first runDisney event too! So excited! :cool1: We love these types of races! Going to study-up on my AK trivia... :coffee:

I am a first timer, but I have read a lot of race reports. It doesn't look like the scavenger hunt clues are Animal Kingdom related at all.

the Scavenger hunt does not have to do with disney they are brain teaser type questions

If only they were actual AK trivia I'd have done fine. Instead I struggled with a few of the clues. But asked people and waited for DH to catch up so he could solve them ;)
