Expedition Everest Challenge 2014

Bad mom waited too late to sign up for race for daughter & her dad. If anyone has info on how we can purchase 2 please let me know. Thanks so much!!!

Wait. The tickets are sold out for the party?

No, the party is at 52% (as is the kid's fun run). The nighttime "adult" run is full, and the daytime "family" run still has 36% open.

So, anyone that didn't get into the nighttime run wanna do the family run? I need a family to "join" to be able to do it. :)

i'm signed up with my BFF, we're turning it into a runcation.. staying for 6 days after EEC! :D Can't wait!.

From what I can find Noah's Light is the only charity offering bibs. You have to raise 500 for each bib or can pay the 500 out right.

I decided not to run because my nieces Bat Mitzvah is the next weekend so I can't really afford two trips down to Fl in one month and can't stay the whole week.

just wondering if anyone knows if there is going to be an Expo at Expedition Everest Challenge i was reading on another site that said there was only going to be packet pick up no expo, i was hoping to get the NB shoes

There is a small expo usually as they had the shoes last year at it and some other vendors. I remember run disney items, garmin, new balance, etc.

It's no where near the size of the others but unless they change something you should be able to get shoes. :)

This is my first year doing the EEC, so I was looking for some information about what it would be like. I found the website below which gave a really good summary of what to expect. http://runningwithwishes.com/2013/05/07/chasing-the-yeti-expedition-everest-challenge-recap/

One disappointing thing about that site is that before I read it, I felt confident in my puzzle-solving abilities. But after working on the clues for WAY too long and only figuring out ONE of them, I am starting to doubt myself! Lil' help, anyone???

By the way, if any of you want to meet up on Friday before the race, check out my thread below.

I could figure out the second (capitals) and third puzzles (count the alphabet), but not the others. Which once did you get?

From people who have done this before. What are the post race refreshments? I mean. We still need to bring a credit card for pretzels I'm guessing? It's just a banana or something?

i'm not entirely sure on EEC in particular, but all rD events i've done we were given a banana, a bagel, a rD food box (selection varies but typically includes a packet of peanuts, peanut butter, gluten free crackers and/or fruit snacks), and water. Since this event at night ends at AK and you enter the post-party afterwards, I'm sure there are other refreshments and goodies available to runners/guests as well.

TeresaJoy, I figured out the second one.

I know the answers to the other ones now, but don't read below if you want to figure them out for yourself!

The first one I definitely overthought. I looked and looked for a pattern, when it turns out the zeros just make the shape of two letters which indicate a direction.

The second one you figured out. You just follow the capital letters from left to right, regardless of which line they are in.

The third one you also got, but I went math-crazy with it. Once I thought about the 19th and 23rd letters in the 26 letters of the alphabet, it was simple.

The fourth one spells out the answer when you take three letters from each line in a column beginning with the "nor" in normally.

I hope I start figuring these things out more quickly before May, or this race is going to take me forever!

If you're worried about the riddles, start playing around with them now. There are a few riddle games you can download for Android/iOS or play in web browsers that make you think outside the box.

This is one of my favorites: Worst Riddle. I'll even help you with the first page. See the poem? Notice anything special about the words in it? Yup, there's a hidden phrase. If you take that phrase and use it to change the website address, you'll go to the next page. So the address www.freewebs.com/worstriddle/minus/beginning.htm is the first page. You would replace "beginning" with the phrase that you figured out, leave the .htm at the end, and hit enter. Once you figure out the second riddle's answer, you do the same thing. :)

ETA: Dang it, now I've started on the Worst Riddle. It's different than the last time I did it, and now I want to see how far I get. Grrrrrr.

So. I signed up for my first ever running event and it's the Everest 5K. I have a few questions

I hear this is really a 10k? You do the actual running then the scavenger hunt?
If I drive and leave my bag in my car. Can I get it after the race? Or do I have to check it in

I really want to do the ToT 10-Miler in October. I have never done much endurance running before and I think I am pretty out of shape. Does 10 months to train for the 10-miler seem sufficient? I feel like I am more apt to continue training if I drop $150 on the race.

I'm doing the same. Signed up for this - and just registered for the ToT 10.
I started training in November, but then hurt my hip, and basically had to start from scratch in January.
I was running a 16 minute mile in November. I'm down to 14:15 as of this week. I was also only able to do a mile before exhaustion. I now do a 5K once a week.
I know to some this seems terrible, but going from zero exercise to this makes me extremely proud.

My suggestion - try to find a few other 5Ks to run between Everest and ToT. Or even 10K. That's what I'm doing to stay motivated, and build my endurance.

Two questions for everyone though...
While I have zero plans to go over pace - how quickly does Disney pull ppl of the course?
Also, I'm running alone, but do runners tend to "help" each other with the clues during the hunt? I'm worried I'm be tired and my brain will freeze. I'm find sitting at my desk doing the clues, but you never know.

Thanks. I'm sooooo excited. 2014 is my year to get in shape and stay that way!

If they operate it the same as last year, there were no balloon ladies like they have for the longer races. I would assume that is due to this being raced in the parking lot and the park itself.

So I doubt you would have to worry about getting pulled if you were over the min pace. I was concerned myself about the pace so hope that eases your mind. Have a blast with it!

I have been stalking the #PrincessHald twiitter thread and I am so excited!!! I cannot wait for EE5K!! How many people wear costumes? It seems like many runners do for other runDisney events.

Thank you!!! I feel the more of these things I do, the better my chances of figuring them out at the race!

This is a neat article about the mysterious Balloon Ladies

I just realized I've been on the Disboards for THIRTEEN YEARS!

Hi! I am looking for 2 bibs for the Everest Challenge. I ran it back in 2012 and have now completed many other races including the Glass Slipper Challenge this past weekend! My mom wants to start running and this race would be perfect for us but, of course, it's sold out.

PLEASE message me if you or anyone you know is looking to sell their bibs! Thanks so much!!!

Just curious, but why would you want a bib with someone else's name on it?
