What are the pros/cons of booking flight through either or are there other better options? Right now Travelocity and Orbitz have the cheapest price on the flights I'm looking at.

I don't think there are any pros and many cons to using either one. Every single time I have tried to get a cheaper flight using one of those groups, I have been shut out. They let you go so far and then, just as you're ready to book and pay, you are told that seats are no longer available, but you can book 'these flights' for more money. For me, it's been all about bait and switch.

I book only through the official airline...they almost always have the cheapest fares. And if there's an issue, they can work with you to get it solved. Once you book through either Travelocity or Expedia, they don't much care. Hard to get any 'situations' resolved.

I checked Delta.com and they have the same price so I will probably go direct through them. I'm booking for a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children. What do I need to look out for? I haven't booked in ages since there are all kinds of "fees."

You don't need to 'look out' for anything now. The airlines now have to give you the total cost of a flight, right up front. It used to be that you would see the various available flights, and the price was beside them. So, you would choose that flight and by the time you got to the payment area, you found that the cost was much more, due to various taxes and fees. Now, it's all right there, on that first page. What you see there is going to be what it actually costs for the flight.
Now....checked baggage fees are a whole different story. They are not listed....simply because not everyone checks a bag!!! You would have to go to the particular airline official site, look under 'baggage' and see what the costs would be.

You can use sites such as Expedia to get some idea of airfares, but when you're ready to buy your tickets, go directly to the airline's website.

Thanks so much everyone! This is our first family flying trip and first for me since all the baggage fees and TSA regulations. We will propbably check one bag and bring 1 or 2 wheeled carryons, wheeled laptop case, and backpack.

I had a bad experience with expedia. they double charged us on each airline ticket. Weirdest thing ever. Took tons of phone calls and emails to correct. They were not even apologetic.

Never again.:confused3
