What restaurants have you been to that you were the victim of expectation inflation - rave reviews here or from other places that made what was an acceptable meal disappointing?

Probably 1900 Park Fare. I read a lot of great reviews here so I went in with high expectations. It was OK, nothing great but not bad either, but my expectations were so high I was disappointed.

Boma, it was very good and I will go again. but it didn't live up to the hype.

the most recent one was the sit down restaurant in morocco. i had read rave reviews on here and thought it would be great. The din from the belly dancer was almost unbearable. Eventually it stopped and we got our starters - they were out of these world and one of the nicest thing i had tasted. But the kebabs we had for our entree were terribly bland. We eat quite a bit of spicey food at home, which probably spoiled things for me as the entrees were almost tasteless. Also, the service was not good - but you expect different service from different cultures. I know when we go to places like greece the service is slow, but we expect that, and we know different people from different cultures work in the epcot restaurants, so we just take the service as it comes.

Wish i could remember what the appetiser was called though - it was completely delicious. Think i would try the counter service in there next time.

Luckily, I haven't eaten anywhere yet, that I haven't loved!!

Chef Mickey...I heard nothing but great things and when we went I couldnt believe that everyone raved about it. The atmosphere was great but the food was like cafeteria food.

Casey's Hot Dogs. I thought they were okay, but nothing to rave about. Had seen many posts on the boards that they are some people's favorite CS food, but I don't get it!

Boma - it was good, but I can't understand why it is raved over. The food is not that exciting or different.

Le Cellier. Typical moderate urban steakhouse restaurant for us. Was ok, but not standout.

JIKO - the food was good, but just not fabulous like we were expecting. I think I had read 1 too many great reviews before going there.

Kona Cafe, Mama Melrose and Spoodles.

ETA: Prime Time in the Studios. The atmosphere is fun but the food wasn't good. (at least not my opinion)

Yachtsman's Steakhouse. The atmosphere is beautiful and peaceful, the service was wonderful, but the food was only so so. We won't be going back again.

After years reading about restaurants here on the boards. I found out a couple of things. The word "awesome" is over used and all restaurants are in some people's eyes "awesome" and they always post the "awesome" reviews here. Isn't that just awesome!!...smjj

Earl of Sandwhich. I hated it. The kids and I pretty much only ate our food out of sheer hunger. We couldnt finnish it (and not because it was too much food) and were hungry well before dinner. I ended up missing lion king show at AK to have food waiting for them when they got out. My husband wouldnt even order from there. Maybe if it hadnt been so crowded .... as this is obviously a well loved place Just not my cup of tea ... I could have figured out how to order a sandwhich the way I could have enjoyed. I just like a roast beef sandwhich lettuce tomato swiss cheese onions plain french bread or sour dough (sliced white if nothing else), not heated (toasted), oil/vinegar not mayo. I do not like specialty breads or sauces. I dont like other cheeses on my sandwhiches. I have found that more and more in sandwhich shops it is a hard thing to order this (what I consider plain) sandwich. THey have there menu and if you cant order exactly whats on the menu go somewhere else. And I so got that feeling there. I cant even remember what I ordered. I only know we will not plan on eating there again ... EVER.

I looked around on the boards then checked menus for what seemed appealing to me I made my adr's for this trip and now while I glance at restraunts board occasionaly like now I am trying not to pay too much attention to it. I really cant base on other peoples experiences. I'm actually kind of glad Ohana's is getting mixed reviews...not set up for disappointment. And I'm other than Ohana's I tried to get adrs for food I am USED to, foods I know we will like and be tollerable even if they arent the best. We did not enjoy Le Cellier this time or Jikos. By the time we ended up at brown derby my husband Just wanted a good old fashioned ham burger and I didnt even order. We were absolutely sick of trying food.

I AGREE :cheer2:

BOMA - The food was good, and the place was neat, but it was no where near all the hype. For months before we went I read reviews where people raved about how great the place was. I then in turn hyped it up to the sweetpea and my friend. Its not that the place was bad, or that the food wasn't good. It was good, we ate well, but I was expecting something WOW. It just didn't live up to the hype. I may try it again.

This is exactly how we felt. I would go again in a heartbeat if we stayed at AKL but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there if we were staying somewhere else.

50's Prime Time Diner for me. After reading all the raves, I thought I had really been missing something fantastic. It was fine, good even, but not great. I liked it and I'm sure we'll go back, but I bet I would have liked it more had I not read all the glowing reviews.

Mama Melrose, maybe it was an off night but it just was not good, I don't think anyone enjoyed their meal.
Earl of Sandwich, I will try it again as we had taken the sandwiches back to SSR and had to heat them again.

Boma for me as well. It was interesting to try, neat place and such. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again though.
