Exiting plane with our stuff?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. We will have a carryon, 2 backpacks, car seat and car seat carrier (rolling), how do you exit the plane with all this stuff plus our 2 yr old DS? Getting on, I think I'm having my DH carry the carryon and car seat, the backpacks will be on our backs, my DS will hold my hand and walk on with me while I carry the car seat carrier. (The stroller will be gate checked). I'm thinking that once the plane lands, we'll just wait until the crowd thins out mostly so I can get my DS out of his car seat, unbuckle it, give it to my DH, I'll take the back packs and the carrier with my son holding my hand. Is that viable?

We've never travelled with a 2 yr old so I'm getting anxious. Any help would be great. We leave next Friday and I'm freaking out.

I think it's a good idea to wait until everyone gets off. I would consider checking the luggage, it might be worth the fee (if your airline charges one), you are going to have to drag all that stuff around the airport.

That is a lot of carryons for only 2 people to care for them. You really should pare it down to what one person can handle and leave the second person only in charge of the 2 y/o.

We try to travel as light as possible. I never put my kids in their carseats, so that was never an issue carrying them through the airport. Do you need the car seat stroller thing? I would think that what you really need to carry on you can get into one backpack. Pretty much a few things for entertaining the little one, change of clothes for the little one, diapers, wipes, medications, camera, etc. should fit in one bag.

If you do end up bringing all of that stuff, I would wait and disembark the plane last. You will otherwise be holding up all of the people behind you.

Pay to check a bag. I don't think you manage all your stuff and a 2 year old. All bets are off you have to carry your child.

PP is right. Deplane last if you insist on going this way.

I know I'm an overpacker . My backpack will have the easy to reach essentials (diapers, wipes, snacks, toys), my DH's backpack has the electronics (laptop, camera, reading materials), the carryon has the extra clothes, diapers, medicines (stuff we need until our luggage arrives from ME). I figured the car seat carrier would be easy to use since it can be rolled and my husband can roll it with the carryon while I push the stroller. My DS can walk on his own but definitely needs to hold someone's hand. I'm going to go through everything again and see if I can pare down some and try to stick to one back pack and the carryon.

You might want to consider gate checking the stroller and car seat carrier. Is your son going to sit in his carseat on the plane? If not, although I would recommend it, you can gate check that as well.

Since you will be using ME, will you also be using Disney transportation or will you be renting a car? If you are using Disney transportation only then you may want to look into a CARES harness for the plane(check ebay for rentals) since you won't be able to use the carseat on any Disney transportation.

Yup-unless you are renting a car you aren't going to need a car seat. I only used the infant kind on the plane, never the great big ones. Then you can leave the car seat carrier (just what is that?) at home. Gate check the stroller, and have DH roll the carry on suitcase. I always held my DS hand due to his Houdini like disappearing acts, but never needed to on the plane. DH in front, DS then me. He even had control of his own backpack with his stuff in it---toys, snack etc. Teach the little dude some self reliance early on I say

Now see...I've carried a carryon, purse, DS's backpack, coats, AND a carseat while herding DS...by myself! AND I didn't hit anyone with any of it.

I was a sweaty, grumpy, exhausted MESS (wishing DH hadn't been so negative about taking a stroller, b/c the stroller could have been used to roll some of that), but I did it.

So to have two people controlling all of that sounds lovely!



Oh, and yes, exit the plane once most people have gotten off.

I have always brought a car seat for my 2 year old on a flight. Easier to keep them contained in their seat...buckled.

With that being said we own the cheapest carseat known to man that we only use on the airplane. It is light and easy to carry around. I do not know the brand, but I got it at WalMart for like $40. The seat has to have the FAA approved sticker on it. If you get the light car seat and ONLY use it on the plane it is easy to carry around the airport by carrying it by the shoulder straps. I would NEVER EVER carry a carseat used in a motor vehicle this way.

I would really try to pack as light as you can. You think you need everything with you and as it turns out you don't. 2 of my kids usually pass out as soon as the plane pulls away from the gate.

I'm a big fan of carry-ons for contingencies (such as luggage not arriving when you do! *LOL*), but you want to pare it down to the bare essentials:

1 change of clothing for each family member
2 sets of underwear for adults
1 swimsuit each
1 set of PJs each
Very basic OTC meds (small quantity of each)
Prescription meds
Very basic toiletries (travel size--pack larger versions)
Very basic cosmetics
Brush/comb/toothbrush per person
4 extra diapers, 1 nighttime diaper
Electronics (everything except one camera--just in case there's a cute photo op!).

Plan to lock this case before boarding and place it in the overhead compartment.

You should be able to get everything else you need into one backpack.

You might want to have a small camera case for the CAMERA ONLY, that your DH would be responsible for during the flight. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about it when you need to access stuff from the backpack during the flight. If you need to use diapers from the backpack during the flight, you might be able to use that space for the camera case when you land.

I totally agree about letting others go first. Nothing is worse than having a very short amount of time to make a connection, and having to wait for someone to struggle through the aisle with lots of bulky items.

Not everyone's final destination is Orlando, others may be trying to make another flight.

I'm not trying to bash families but if you're bringing as much as you say you are, it'll take TIME to get everything out of the overheads, attached to someone/something, down the narrow aisle & off the plane. DD and I carry 1 oversized handbag each. We throw them on our shoulders and are ready to go except, oh, you're still in the aisle getting your stuff together.

Please, if you really need all that stuff (can I ask why people bring laptops?) let the light packers go first!!!!

A friendly request (or more like down on bended knee pleading with you).....its great to wait until everyone gets off (then we somewhat assist you) BUT please while you are watching everyone deplane please start gathering all your stuff. The end of your 2 hour flight (for example) may be the end of our twelve hour day and we would love to get to the hotel for our possibly short time off. Its frustrating to watch a family sit there throughout the entire deplaning process doing nothing and then watch them slowly get up, get all their stuff together from the floor, seatback pockets etc, dress their kids, etc etc

Oh this is lovely, now she's going to go through and add stuff to carry on! Seriously, we fly 4-5 times a year and carry on nothing more than our medications, camera and a few things to entertain the kids. We can get everything into one small totebag. People pack waaaay too much stuff! If something happens and luggage doesn't arrive, that is why they have Walmart and resort gift shops!

I just don't understand people who schlep everything through the airports! It is so difficult to travel this way! Your shoulders ache from carrying so much stuff. Someone has to sit with all of it while the other lets the little ones move around the airport before boarding....It is just a HUGE hassle to bring so much stuff!

I don't even travel with the laptop anymore. We bought an iTouch for travel, fits right in your pocket.

I agree with all of the above except the bold - people bring laptops because people on planes might not just be leisure travelers..they are business people, students, etc. I take a laptop with me because I am self employed and have to keep up with my schedule.

My husband takes one so he can run numbers and send emails regarding projects back to work.

My daughter takes one because she is a student and its amazing all the online course work, tests, emails, etc that students get these days.

I just wanted to add, I don't bring change of clothes, pjs or bathing suits for whole family in carryon when we travel, (well, just my bathing suit cuz it's easy to shop for men & boys' swim trunks) but op is traveling with a baby in diapers.
I remember those days when "poop happens" and might just need a change of clothes. Depending on the baby's age, I'd bring a change of clothes for him/her in a diaper bag, maybe myself too depending on baby's age.

If you have doubts that checked luggage may not arrive, divide everyone's clothes among different bags so that no one in your party ends up with nothing b/c their one bag is delayed.

I only carry on what I need for inflight entertainment and things that shouldn't go in checked bags (electronics, valueables, meds, etc.)

Usually luggage is just delayed. I think it's not so common for it to be completely lost forever.

Wait until some of the crowd leaves but I dont get why this is considered a lot. Put a backpack on each of you, give DH the carseast and carrier, and you have the carryon in your hand on onyour shoulder while holding your child's hand. Or your child can walk down the aisle of the plane not haolding your hand. Then put him back in the stroller once you get off.
