Exercise in WDW

I've been walking 4 miles in just under an hour everyday for awhile now. I like to do it, and am considering getting up at 6am to walk while at WDW.

Is that crazy? Does anyone else keep up with their exercise programs while there? I just wonder if it'll be too much with all the walking in the parks (which to me is not the same as "power" walking) in the heat of the summer.

I just wonder if my body is going to go into withdrawal if I don't keep up with it. Not to mention all the eating while there on the free dining. I should keep up with it just to fend off weight gain. ;)

You will do PLENTY of walking at WDW. Much more than 4 miles a day.

I agree. It's just not the get your heartrate up, blood pumping sorta walk that I do when I exercise. It's the stroll along rate of a 3 and 4 year old - stopping to look at everything. That is great in itself, and I wouldn't want that any other way...

BUT, it's just not the same.

We usually walk at least 3.5 miles everyday and have no problem getting back into the swing of it after vacations. We were at the beach in June and sat on our balcony watching all of the exercisers go by! I take time off from my daily routine when on vacation, but I know there are others who like to stick to it! ;)

I exercise very regularly and don't do anything while i am at disney - but i (even with all the exessive eating) don't gain anything while i am there. if anything - i think that i get way more in because we walk everywhere and then swim on the off days! Not to mention - we always do the water parks and that is nothing but climbing all day!

Try and stay with the program if you can! True - the walking is not like power walking - but since you end up walking so much more it may even out. One year i took a pedometer to see how much i walked versus - how much walking / running / bouncing i did at home and the disney counts blew it out of the water! and i workout 4 - 5 days a week.

not to mention - my trainer always gives me the freepass to eat whatever and take a break b/c i am on vacation. and trust me - as no joke as he is - he would not just give a free pass for nothing!

Anyway - try and keep with the momentum. If you are too exhausted - you can always stop! It doesn't hurt to try! Let me know - you may inspire me for my next trip!

I never do formal exercise at Disney. But we park hop a lot, and typically walk between EPCOT and MGM. I usually walk 12-15 miles in a WDW day. And some of it (fast pass retrieval) would probably qualify for aerobic walking!

I do walk while at home, but would never dream of doing additional walking during a WDW vacation. I walk 10+ miles a day while at WDW. But that's just me....

I don't think you're crazy. I plan to do my running while I'm there, maybe not every day, but at least half of the days. Sure I'll be walking a lot, but if the heart rate doesn't get up to that certain level, you aren't really getting the same exercise. I think sticking to my running plus all the extra walking will translate into me being able to thoroughly enjoy the dining plan.

I exercise regularly (6-7 times a week) and when we were in the world in May, I got up once early and used the elliptical at SSR (mainly because it is so nice and I wanted to try it). Other than that, I just walked around the world. It was a nice break for me. I didn't feel bad about it. I didn't gain any weight either. You might come back from vacation more refreshed and ready to start a new routine. Good luck!

You sure will be walking alot in WDW!

My husband and I always make time for exercise at our hotel's fitness center. Walking through the parks all day is definitly exercise, but it doesn't raise your heartbeat like hard core cardio does. We usually find time in the early am or mid-to-late afternoon for 40 minutes of exercise.
One of my favorite things is to put on my IPOD and take a run/walk around the hotel property and just quietly enjoy the scenery and take it all in!

ENJOY!! :cool1:
