We are taking the Eastern Caribbean in October, and it is now time to book excursions. I need input!! My DD9 wants to do the Butterfly Farm in St. Maartin. Has anyone done this one? Would you recommend it? Also, if you just want to get off and shop in St. Maartin and St. Thomas, do you have to book an excursion, or can you get there on your own from the ship. Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi!
My Mother and Grandmother went to the butterfly farm in 2000 and loved it!!! They said it was really interesting aside from seeing all of the different species. I guess they do research there too. Anyway, I think you would both enjoy it! Yes, you can leave the ship on your own for shopping etc...

To go shopping:

In St. Maartin - you can take a water taxi (2 min) to the town! I believe it cost $5.00 roundtrip PP. It was right where you got off the Disney Boat.

In St. Thomas - you can grab a taxi from the boat and it was $3.00 per person each way to the town.

The shopping for both ports is very easy to get to, and you can do these on your own without booking an excursion.

Have to vote in the excursion to Trunk Bay in St. Thomas. No regrets. Gorgeoous beach, great snorkeling. Not crowded.
