I had recently seen these blueish like smaller butterflies at our house. I really liked seeing those, as well as the yellow ones since they are not usually found here. So, todays QOTD is-

What type of butterflies do you have in your area? Any unusual ones?
I have a budding entomologist in DS13. Years ago we started a garden to attract butterflies and therefore caterpillars. Nothing. So I turned it into an herb garden. Who knew that would do the trick? :goodvibes Swallowtails love dill and parsley! Now we plant milkweed in it too, and participate in the Monarch Watch--raise them and tag them.

What is your most favorite crockpot dish?

I wish I had one...can't wait to see if someone else does so I can ask for the recipe! I used to make stew in it, but found a better recipe. Now I just use mine to keep things warm for parties.

Love my crockpot.......cook a lot of different things in it.
All meats come out so tender.
So a variety of chicken dishes, soups, beef, pork.
I know DH's likes the roast done in it.

I don't use my crock pot much. I have started cooking pork tenderloin in it recently and really like that. Joe does too.

I do not own a crock pot either, I am not really familiar with them. My grandparents used to use a stove top pressure cooker which is the nearest things I have seen but it completely different if that makes sense? LOL!

I love my crock pot!!! Use it quite a bit! My family's favorite meal I make in it is chili!! :) Nothing like the blend of flavors and the tenderness of the meat after 8-10 hours slow cooking in the pot! So easy to cook in, just a one pot meal and soooo easy to clean up! :thumbsup2 This is one clean up no one fights over who's turn it is to do the dishes!!!:lmao: :rotfl: I highly recommend it!!;)

Could you share some recipes. What cut of meat do you use?

Do you have a recipe that you could share?

I don't own a crockpot, but I've been thinking about buying one.
Get one, and we can share tips with each other while trying to figure out how to use the crockpots ;).

My mom has a pressure cooker that she received as a gift, but she has never used it.

I will have to try making chili in it. Do you just brown the meat first, then add everything in, and simmer?

My crockpot came in the mail today, so I will try it out soon. Does anyone have any tips on making a corned beef using the crockpot?

I start with Carroll Shelby's chili kit (looks like a brown bag) or any chili kit that is carried by a market in your area! Each kit is enough for 2 lbs. of ground beef.

Here's where you can get creative!! In addition to browning the 2 lbs of ground beef, we add either a top eye round roast or 2 pieces of london broil (cubed small and browned as well).

When all the meat is browned, add it to the crock pot. Since the chili kit is enough for only 2 lbs of meat we add another kit to the mix (since we've added a roast or london broil). You'll need 2 15oz. cans of tomato sauce and a can of water (use the tomato sauce can as your guide).

The kit comes with masa (corn flour) to thicken the chili (if needed) and we use this sparingly. This, of course, also depends on how you like your chili--thick or thin. Also, the kit doesn't specify this BUT we always add a 15oz. can of black beans (or pinto) to the chili (or you can omit the beans).

Cook on high for 30mins, then low for 7.5 hours (8 hours total) ... the timing makes for a great overnight cook for next day mid-day meal or you can start it in the morning for that night's dinner! In either case, this is a great one-pot hearty meal and over time you can begin to experiment with other ingredients that you'd like to try. We've tried adding the following meats with our chili:

-- sausage meat (sweet or hot, depending on taste),
-- kielbasa,
-- other cuts of meat.

As for condiments, we always have the following ready:

-- sour cream,
-- chopped onion,
-- jalapenos,
-- shredded cheese (cheddar, colby jack or any mexican mix will do),
-- lots of tortilla chips

If you try this recipe OR you try it and add anything new, let me know! I'd love to hear how it turns out.:)

Enjoy!:flower3: ;)

If we order room service we usually do so after a night in the parks and are too tired to move. :) It's usually so late(for heavy meals) that we just get the lightest items on the menu, grilled cheese, salads, club sandwiches or maybe just apps. I can't go to bed with all that heavy food on my stomach!! Or maybe just an ice cream sunday!! :cloud9: That's light and soothing to the stomach, right??:lmao: :rotfl2:

Just large chunks of pork tenderloin, sprinkle with onion salt. Add a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of water. Cook on low for 8 hours and serve over rice.

I've never ordered room service before. We've always thought it was too expensive. We just look at the menu and talk about what we would order. But if I did, it would all depend on my mood as to what I would order.

OT - we shopped for Carol's prom dress yesterday and actually found one. Of course, it took all day. We made a spur of the moment stop on the way home after a day of shopping and found a zebra print that she fell in love with.

I'm not home now, Patsy, so I don't have access to my recipes.
I have a wide variety of recipes for chicken......pork chops several ways, pork tenderloin, cubed beef for stew, and other dishes and roast beef.
When using ground beef I always brown first.
I love, love cake from one too ;) A hot pudding cake is favorite, but I have also done apple cake.

Got a pressure cooker when I got married, but rarely used it. I was afraid it would explode!! ;)

Room service,.....never been tempted at a restaurant. I am too cheap ;)
On cruises it is great!!

An ice cream sundae sounds good right now, as well as a nice comfy bed.

Can we see a picture of it?

Yes...can you share some recipes when you get a chance when you return home. Hope you are having a nice trip.

Thanks, Patsy. Nice to be warm :sunny:and not see snow in my yard.
Busy day and the next few will be too.
We have to get the landscaping set up and scheduled before I leave.
Need pool orientation too so we can turn on the filter and get it going....and hopfully try it out :yay:

Room service? I would order whatever I was in the mood for. It would probably be somthing light like sandwiches or some nachos.

If you were to cook something from scratch, what would it be?

I try to cook from scratch a lot. Yesterday I made some vegetable and ham soup which tastes great.

Just about all our meals. I don't use a boxed mix for anything except for maybe mac and cheese. I'd like to do that also but don't have a recipe for it.

I would post a picture of Carol's dress but I don't remember how. We're going shopping again tomorrow. Seems that while she really likes this dress, she wouldn't mind check a few more stores out.

Most of my meals are made from scratch. We do tend to go out for dinner once a week, but the rest of the time we eat at home. Kirby making mac and cheese is very easy. Cook up a bunch of elbow macaroni, and after it's cooked and drained add a bunch of shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese while the noodles are still hot. Have done this on occassion for the kids and they love it. Have a great day everyone!!
