I've never joined this thread but since I'm getting back into exchanges I'm going to join in.

No internet would be hard. I have a hard time on vacation not getting on checking things out. If I have to miss a day for some reason I always feel so out of the loop. That being said if I didn't have I'm sure my house would be cleaner, I'd catch up on some of my tivod shows, and I might actually get some scrapping done. LOL

What if didn't have internet access for a week due to a power outage, would you miss going onto your computer, would you not care, what would you do or shall I say what would you be able to get done during the time that you are usually on the computer?
I could get by. I'd miss my friends here on the DIS though. I'd get my work done in the office more timely. We'd be in a fix as far as school is concerned. The band communicates a lot through e-mails.

What sort of things that happened this year are you thankful for?
Many. First, my mom survived aggressive breast cancer, surgery and the awful radiation for 6 weeks! :worship:

My daughter has won too many things lately to count! Chicago Cubs Batkid Day in August, HSM3 Premiere in L.A. in October and, just the other day, her school's Book Fair drawing! :goodvibes Rub HER for Good Luck, I tell ya!! :rotfl:

Also thankful the bills are being paid, we have our jobs, our kids are in school, and doing well/good. There is so much to be Thankful for this year, after some real hardships that aren't exactly over yet. :guilty:

:grouphug: to ALL!!!

Tough times aren't over - yet!

:sad1:

What sort of things that happened this year are you thankful for?
That both my surgery and my mothers went well.

That the business is hanging in there.

That my daughter's senior year seems to be going well.

That my son has found a girlfriend.

That my car is nine years old and still running well.

Do you like recieving gift cards as presents?
Yes.

My hubby and I don't like gift cards, simply as they are easy to lose or misplace. We would rather give cash than gift cards for this reason. However yesterday for the first time, I did purchase a $10.00CDN gift card at Starbucks for my older sons teacher, as she as been a first class teacher, and I wanted to give her something that she could use. Also it means more to us when someone gives us as gift, as it shows that some thought was put into it. I love Christmas, and it's my favourite time of year. I just don't like shopping the malls after "Santa" arrives, as the malls go crazy, and with my large van parking is like finding a needle in a snowstorm during the holiday season. So just to annoy alot of people on the forum, I'm officially finished my Christmas shopping:woohoo: . I might pick up the odd smalll thing closer to Christmas, but officially I"M DONE! Now I can put my energies into saving the rest of the money for our trip to DL in Feb. Have a great day!:goodvibes :goodvibes

I am almost done with my shopping as well :). I had picked up two presents yesterday.

As for gift cards, I love to recieve them...as long as it is to somewhere I am able to use it at.

In Rockwall, we have a Christmas, Fourth of July and Homecoming parade. In Heath, we have a Fourth of July and Homecoming Parade. I listed both because while live in Rockwall, Carol attends Rockwall-Heath High School and the band participates in the Heath activities. They may have another parade to celebrate the football team if they go far in the playoffs. They won their first playoff game tonight.

I think that I might like to have a bird. We had a sparrow while I was growing up. My sister found it after a storm one day. It had hardly any feathers on it. My mother fed it pablem (sp?) and it lived. We named it Tweety and we had it for a long time, over 10 years.

If you were to get a new pet, what would it be?

I would love to get a female Cocker Spaniel. We lost our last one, Ariel, to cancer 5 years ago. I miss her alot. Holding me back from getting another, besides the pain of losing her is the freedom of traveling without looking for a dog sitter. Someday though.

Do you like recieving gift cards as presents?

Yes they are nice to receive now and again. My MIL is giving my DH and I giftcards for Christmas this year. We will put them towards a new bed or cooker in the sales. I'm also quite happy to give them if I can't think of a suitable gift.

I've not even started. Bah humbug! ;) :rotfl:

What types of parades do you have in your town?

The only parade we have is Remembrance Sunday.

If you were to get a new pet, what would it be?

Another Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy. Lyle is almost 11 months old and will be goign in for formal traiing in January or March. We will miss him terribly. :sad1:

In school, my daughter learned about the 3 Rs. Recycle, Recuse, and Reuse. So, today's QOTD is-
*What are some ways that you, and your family recycle, reduce, and reuse?

Since we've been annexed and now receive recycling pickups, we recycle all of our paper products that have not been touched by food. We rinse out all plastic and metal containers and put them in the recycle bin too. All plastic bags and uncontaminated food wrappers go in my Kroger shopping bags (that I purchased to put my groceries in) and I put them in the recycling bin at the grocery store each week.

I also keep some plastic shopping bags here for trash can liners. Though to be more green, I probably shouldn't. And I also get my groceries bagged once a month in paper sacks which I use to put my office trash in and shredded paper for recycling.

It's amazing how little trash you actually have when you recycle.

There is an author, Terri Blackstock, who has written a book called Last Light that is about a family copes when all the electrical stuff in the world doesn't work anymore. It really gets you to thinking what we would do if we had no electricity.

Good job Susan with all of the different ways that you, and your family does for the environment. :dance3:
