I love hot cocoa anyway you make it! I probably prefer it without the marshmallows though. I do like whipped cream, but rarely put it on there. I like the Swiss Miss brand and the Cold Stone Creamery kind. Or Starbucks, though it's expensive from there. Yum!!

What type of meal do you eat on Christmas day? Do you cook up a big feast?

Used to do a big ham dinner, but this year i'm not.

It all depends on what we feel like cooking. I think that this year we are having meatballs and rice as our main dish.

For at least 10 years now, we have recruits from the Coast Guard station in Cape May as guests. We pick them up around 10-11AM and have to get them back by 8PM. We usually have a "Mostly Polish themed brunch" around noon. We usually have ham, pierogies, kishka and rye breads, maybe a soup. We like to do the Polish custom of oplatek. This is one version of that custom:

We modify it to accomodate our guests.

Then for dinner we traditionally have filet mignon steaks. DH cooks them outside on the grill and DSis and I prepare the other things.

The recruits come to us through the Red Cross's "Operation Fireside." There are plenty of homes in the Cape May region who bring these recruits into their homes. This is a break from the regiment of basic training. Some of the recruits are lucky enough to be training and invited out for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We go to my mom's on Christmas day and she cooks! Wahoo! I do help quite a bit, but I still don't do it all myself. We are having turkey and ham this year (her work is giving her the turkey and we just like ham....) so I will get lots of left overs to bring home for sure.
And then, when my DD comes home from MI, we will have another Christmas meal at my mom's and open the rest of our presents. As DD is only 9, we save most for when she comes home so she doesn't feel left out. DS2 opens enough to keep him occupied and happy and leaves enough for the same when his sissy is home. But that means not only 2 Christmases, but to Christmas yummy meals! Both at lunch.... mmmmmm

It's usually leftovers, as we have our dinner on Christmas Eve, although this year is a mystery dinner, as I'm having minor sugery done on the 21st, so what kind of dinner we are going to have is anyones guess. Looking forward to the surgery though, and am a sucker enough for punishment to do the dinner as well with DH and my mom's help.

My family usually has a big potluck for christmas, nothing special. Lots of chicken, ham, turkey, potatoes, side dishes and tons of dessert.

When my gpa was alive we used to go to my grandparents on christmas eve and had ham, rolls, green beans, and cinnamon apples.

Baked Goods - homemade dinner rolls, my aunt's husband's mothers cherry pie - so delicious, almond crescent cookies and chocolate chip cookies

Snacks - any kind of veggie tray, walnuts to open in a nutcracker, ham/green onion ball with Ritz

Homemade chocolate chip cookies (my favorite). No special recipe i just use the one on the back of the bag, however i use Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips.

Eggnog, but i won't post a recipe as it has raw eggs and most people freak out about raw eggs.

hmmm. i love hot cocoa. and sugar cookies i bake. It's betty crocker just add water ones. But i am trying to find a better recipe online. I received a Sugar Cookie Set as a gift a few years back and it was REALLY good. but i forgot the recipe or where to find the set. Oh well.

I don't really have any favorite foods/desserts that I look forward to for Christmas. Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year.

I do like those Christmas Peppermint Nougats by Brachs that hit the shelves this time of year.

You would ask this today - after my marathon baking!

Today, I made- 2 things of fudge (with and without nuts), choc chip cookies, oatmeal no bake cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, pecan sandies, and these choc dipped oreo/cream cheese ball things.

Tomorrow is peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies and choc dipped pretzel rods (for church teacher gifts). If I take tomorrow off, I will do the rest on Saturday with hubby's help.... hmmmm.
Also- I may make more.... you never know!

We do varies Food Bank donations, and also my daughter's club that she belongs to is doing donations for Toys for Tots, and the food bank.
