Just for people who are thinking of getting their dollars. Thomas Exchange are offering $1.85 on cash and TC as of dinnertime today. There has been a surge due to the interest rate rise. The business rate has been climbing again today.

Thanks for that info. Do you think it will continue to rise, or at least stay at $1.85 for a while?

Virtually impossible to tell on exchange rates. If your happy with that rate and have the cash available it is always good to buy. I did this last time and the rate went up a little and then went straight back down again!

Thanks Laura, I guess I'd better buy now then, only 20 days til we go. ooooooooh so exciting

thats a good exchange, how do you order from thomas exchange? are they any good?

I think it has gone up some more. I might get mine this weekend.

The market rate is up to almost 1.91 today - that's the highest I recall it being for the last couple of years at least. We have most of our $, but it's still tempting to buy more when it's this high.

I phoned Thomas Exchange today, and I may have been unlucky, but the man was very difficult to understand and quite rude. He was saying I had to transfer cash into their account and then call back to place my order. All in all, I didn't feel that comfortable, so I used Travelex online instead, and got them to price match TE's rate via their Price Promise.

With Thomas Exchange you use the online request form then transfer the cash to their account, the rate is set on the receipt of that form. The moment it clears they send the currency.

Worked a treat for us a month or so back.

In Norwich yesterday the Marks & Spencer rate was $1.84 which was pretty good.

I'm by no means an expert but I've heard its expected to top the $2 mark and that over the next year or so to go to around $2.20 !!!! good news for us holidaymakers going from the uk to usa...

Of course, no-one really KNOWS which way its going to go though, do they?

thanks for the info, I have order £500 at $1.84. I may wait now to see if it gets to $2

Anyone know what the business rate is for today?
or interbank rate, bank rate or buusiness rate was just a sade under $1.91 to £1.Its been like that for 2 days, its been holding at that untill fed anouced that they will leave there rates unchanged.
Would expect the £ to start edging up as we look like were in for further rate incresses as there is a lot of volitility in the UK housing market and retail sales going up.Intrset rates in the US look like there in a hold pattern or downward pattern.
Never used to wory about the £v$ untill disney and DVC :rotfl: now watch the markets every day

We are going to wait now and see if it increases anymore, if it does we will buy our next load! :Pinkbounc

For info, I just checked my Bank online (LLoyds TSB) and they are selling TC's at $1.87 if that is of any use to anyone.......I am off to buy mine this week. I dont anticipate it increasing much more before mid September, although do I wait a week ??? Decisions !!!

Is this something special for customers? I just checked Lloyds TSB online rate, which was updated this morning, and it shows $1.806 for TCs and $1.8166 for currency.

M & S are selling at $1.841 on both TCs and currency with free postage over £500.

The business rate on the BBC's website currently is $1.90875 :)
