Exactly why the debate board was closed!!

I confess I didn't read this whole thread but I don't "get" what has happened.

The way I understand it, the Debate Board was shut down because it was decided there were other places on the Internet to debate current issues. I guess the moderating of that board had become too burdensome since people were getting off the guidelines with their discussion. That's all fine.

Now, those same debates have just been moved over to the Community Board? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If the "debaters" weren't following the guidelines on their own board why would they do anything different on the Community Board? Either keep the Debate Board or not -- don't just move the conversation to another board.

BTW, I did not post this to get replies, I merely wanted to say hey everyone let's see if we can go one day without arguing about anything and everything, but from the hostility of the posts here I guess I got my answer.

Why didn't you just say that then, rather than post in such a hostile manner?

I don't know about the rest of you but I personally like coming to these boards and others for advice and encouragement. I don't come here to have my opinion's judged or debated by those who don't agree. If I post something that you disagree with fine, state your point and move on. Some people just love to think they are right and the funny thing is, the ones who keep quiet are usually the ones who know what the heck they are talking about. THis is NOT a debate board, it is a community board for people to get along and share advice. I for one will respond to certain things that may be up for debate but I will not bluntly insult anyone's opinion. I would appreciate the same. I think if we would like this board to remain in effect than we might want to try and be adults.

It may be that since your original post was contentious, it naturally drew the type of replies that it did. If you read it fully, I think you can see that you are definately not coming across all 'warm and fuzzy' here.

Is it me or am I missing something?

I don't see anyone with a gun held to their head forcing them to participate in any part of this entire site. We all joined of our own free will. If there's a part of this site that you don't care to read or participate in, don't. And as long as the users can manage to follow the rules, then people shouldn't complain because there's a "discussion" going on and they don't like the topic or they don't like the "tone" of that conversation.

Now this is NOT a dig at anyone, but not everyone wants to read a thread entitled "What size are your feet" or "Brunette Hair Question" nor does everyone want to read about politics or events in the news.

Well.... that's why there's 126 flavors of ice cream.

I just can't understand why a few "debate" style topics can't peacefully intermix with dozens and dozens of other topics.

There's plenty of different topics to please just about anyone. From a quote from a movie (10 points to the first person who guesses it)

"Choose wisely"

Absolutely right John. And it seems to me that we are doing just that. There are some debates, but they have the word DEBATE in the title. If you enter the thread, it is being conducted in a polite, and may I add, most interesting, manner. I just do not get why some people cannot let it go.

Ooh, ooh, said by the Grail Knight.

Sorry, I got here two minutes too late to guess, but I had to throw in my two cents anyway. ;)

Exactly. Now if there was only a way to sort so each person could have there version of the good stuff on top. I'm interested in quite a few subjects, but sadly the CB is one of the few where there my version of the good stuff is a minority.

But I'll keep digging if I have no other choice.

John, right on!!! There are just people in the world that want to force you to behave the way THEY want you to. If they don't like it, then no one else should either. Heck, I think scrapbooking is stupid! So, do I complain that the scrapbooking board shouldn't be here because *I* think it's silly. No way. I just don't go there.

Yeah...those questions about hair highlights really bug me!!:p ;)

Sorry...I couldn't resist...:)

There are debates all over the place,, not all of them start as debates,, but many threads are discussions on what people think about 'this' or 'that'. That actually is part of what a community forum is about.
