So I have been looking around on various sites to try to figure out a way to get the lenses I want, and save some money at the same time. :rotfl: A far fetched idea, I'm sure.

So anyhow, I was on KEH.COM and one of the lenses I have been looking into is the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for Nikon DSLRs. On Amazon.com this (brand new) runs about $450, but they have one on KEH.COM for about $100 less.

I had been looking at Demo, LN and LN- lenses in hopes of getting the closest to new possible, but the price difference between these used lenses and the brand new straight out of the box lenses from Amazon.com is minimal (under $50 most times).

Do you think that $100 is a big enough savings to purchase a used lens...and if so, have you had any experience with purchasing a lens from KEH.COM in "EX+" condition?

The description for "EX+" is as follows:
"Excellent Plus" 90-96% of the original condition. Shows moderate wear. May have slight marks on finish. Glass very clean.

Thanks in advance for any input!

all i know is i was considering selling a lens with them and i thought it was excellent and they didn't( really had nothing what so ever wrong, they said there was a little dust in the lens which i never saw but have heard practically any lens does have) so i would guess excellent would have to be really excellent...do you have any time to send it back or is it as is purchase( i thought i remembered you had a few days but i could be wrong)
$100 on a $400 lens is about 25%, might be enough for me to try it.

Having never purchased anything from KEH before, I could be wrong...but it looks like for both new and used equipment, there is a 14 day return policy, and as long as you package it properly and pay for the return shipping, they don't charge you the 15% restocking fee.

Basically, if I am spending $1500 on lenses (for 3 maybe, over the next year or two)...I don't want to be a cheapskate and try to penny-pinch and save the extra $100 if I am going to end up with a piece of junk that it supposedly "EX+." From what you say though, it sounds like anything "EX+" is probably going to be better than what I expect, not worse...which is a nice discovery :goodvibes

I have bought from KEH several times and EX/EX+ will be in excellent condition. Keep in mind that only with the LN rating (not LN-) do you get the box and accessories. In EX you may well not get the hood, paperwork, case, etc. unless it is specifically listed.

I bought a couple used lenses off them. I had no problems with the quality that was stated. One was an EX and it looks pretty good. I would recommend them any day.

That's a-okay with me. So many things are download-able from the internet now-a-days that I would be fine with not getting the pamphlet or the box, that's what camera bags are for, right?? :goodvibes

Here is the description -
"30 F1.4 SIGMA EX DC D HSM (62)(APS-C) WITH HOOD, CAPS, CASE, DIGITAL SLR WIDE ANGLE LENS "

Looks like I may go for it. This is trouble...good deals pretty much always purchasing something prior to when I actually thought I would. This was going to be a Christmas present to myself...but now, it may just have to be a Halloween present. :thumbsup2

Good for you- nice lens by the way. I'm sure you will love it.

I bought an EX lens from them (Minolta 50mm F1.7) and was initially worried as it was my first purchase. The 'EX' description was "Shows moderate wear. May have small dings, pecks and slight finish wear. Glass may have some dust, but no marks." It was only $60, so I took the chance and expected the worst. The lens arrived in what I would consider near-perfect condition...just one very tiny scratch near the mounting plate - blades were clean, focus ring was smooth and firm, front lens cap was included, sunshade worked perfectly, and it's been a wonderful addition to my collection.

And the lens was packed very well, and shipped on time.

A friend has since bought 3 lenses from them, including taking a chance on a BGN lens, which is optically perfect but just has wear and scuffs on the zoom and focus rings. Glass is fine.

I would have full confidence in the optical and physical quality of anything KEH considers 'EX' or better.

I've bought an EX lens and a BGN lens from them. Both were in excellent shape. The EX rated lens I bought was the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro and I couldn't see anything wrong with. Came with hood and both caps and no scratches that I could see. The BGN lens I got was the 70-210mm f/4. It shows a little wear (it is a 20 year old lens) but didn't come with any caps. I had an extra rear cap and I bought a front cap locally for $8.

I am very happy with my experience with Keh and will definately buy from them again.

What about used lenses on Adorama, anyone have experience with them? Not buying anything quite yet, just trying to find the best deal out there!
