Everything you need to know about WDW Christmas- Tips & Secrets

we just booked our first december trip and i cant wait. we are going december 12-18 and staying at All Star Sports. we are still debating whether or not to go to a MVMCP on the 12th. i cant wait to read all of these tips. :santa:

Does anyone know, from years past where the characters are usually located and if anyone special is there? Is Santa there? We are going to an early MvMCP in Nov. (Prior to Thanksgiving) if so is it just like other character meet and greets. We are 2 adults we would like a picture with Santa..Standing of coarse, not sitting on his lap as we are pooh-sized...LOL

Santa has always been at the party. He's usually on Main Street. The party map will tell you where. The characters are usually dressed for the holiday and often there will be some "special" characters out and about. We've seen Abu, Uncle Scrooge, Capt. Hook and Smee, Belle and Beast and the Princesses with their Princes, among others.

You just must take decorations for you window in your room. I was there last year and took an extention cord ( no outlet under our window), lighted window hanging Mickey I bought at Walgreens (passed it on to someone checking in when I was leaving). Some other do dads to hang in window. They do not want you to use tape, so I got some window clings. Got a cheap timer to turn the lighted Mikey on before we got back to room after dark. Also used some of those "Command" brand hangers that don't leave a mess when you take things down before you leave.:santa:pixiedust::tinker:

The parade runs at 8:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.; Holiday Wishes fireworks is at 9:30 p.m. When we did the DP on a party night, there wass no way we could have seen the first parade because they opened the DP area around... oh, 8:30 pm? And we got in line even earlier. You can't see much of the parade from the DP area either. So we went to the second parade.

If I had it to do over again, I don't think I'd schedule the DP on a party night if at all possible. We hardly got to ride any rides—it was all standing in line and waiting for things, and once the second parade was over (we watched from at the very end of the route), there wasn't that much time left in the party.

Thanks so much for your input!!! I have been deciding to do it the night of the Dessert Party but that is the answer I was looking for. As of now, the night I wanted for the Dessert Party is all sold out:headache: So I guess it is not meant to be. Maybe I will try calling back a couple of weeks before we go.

Does anyone know if they do anything for Hanukkah in WDW?? We are a multi-religion household (I am Catholic, DH is Jewish, we celebrate everything...more the merrier!!!!)

I just looked up the Hanukkah calendar and it is the exact week we will be there 12/2 - 12/9

My sister and I are pooh sized too and Santa insisted we sit on his lap! This was at DTD....he also told my sister's then bf that he was getting coal because he had been naughty that year...few weeks later we found out he had been cheating on my sister....so Santa does know all kids!

Think of your happiest childhood memory of Christmas, with the smells, the lights/decorations and the warmth you get from strangers - This will be Disney at Christmas time. :santa:

Wow!! Making plans for our first Christmas in Disney this year . . .. this thread has got me SO excited!! :cool1:

I just love Christmas at DW. Especially all the people who are celebrating too. It is fun walking around and looking at all the window decorations and I am with the one poster who passes on the decorations when they leave. I also pass on other things occasionally too. Folks are nice to me and I try to be nice to others and it just adds to the magic.

It is a great place and time to take pictures for a Christmas card, even if it is for the following year. I like the blue Xmas scene at DTD with Goofy and friends with the banner that says "Merry Christmas".

BTW, when it is more fun for Santa than for you it just might be time to reconsider sitting on his lap. :lmao:

See you all there!

Hey all! I'm so glad to see this thread!

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster, forever lover of all things Disney, even former Disney Store CM!

I've been to WDW more times than I can count, and Christmas is my favorite time to visit, but have never been on Christmas DAY. The family has decided we're all going to meet up and spend a few days together with Mickey. I haven't had a chance to read through this entire thread (Don't worry, I will!) but I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any extra, EXTRA special magic on Christmas Day?

That's awesome Slightly Goofy! Definitely making me look forward more to the upcoming trip (early Dec)! My fiancee and I are going to decorate the room up all Christmas-y and like you said, pass on the decorations to the next person!

I see reading through this thread that there is a Christmas "tag" fireworks at Epcot. Can someone please tell me when this happens? We will be there Dec 25 - Jan 1. I know there are special times for NYE at both MK and Epcot, just wondering what other fireworks they do!!
Thanks!

The Christmas tag is on all the regular showings of IllumiNations for the entire holiday season. :thumbsup2

They tell the Hanukkah story in the lobby area of the American Adventure in Epcot. It was really a very nice telling of it. My family enjoyed hearing it.

The are a couple of Menorahs (forgive me if I spelled that wrong) in the display of lights at the Osborne Lights at the Studios.

Other then that, of the top of my head I can't think of anything. If I remember something else I'll let you know.

I'm not an IllumiNations die-hard, but the Christmas tag gets me EVERY TIME!!! Even when I'm just watching it on our family DVD. :lmao::goodvibes

WalkonPooh, please post pictures of your window decorations when you return for everyone to share, please?

To everyone, please make sure to use safe decorations. We do not want any fires to ruin the holidays.

We definitely will, post pictures and be safe with our decorations. :thumbsup2

I cleaned out our Disney box today, and I found the Disney window clings I bought at 90% off last year. I rarely see decorations at the deluxes, but I'm going to let the kids decorate our glass door/window. If you happen to be at the Poly December 1-8 and see Christmasy princesses, fairies and Cars adorning a window facing the beach, that's us!!

I'm planning a trip for my family as a Christmas gift in 2011. This will be our first trip to WDW. Any tips, suggestions, opinions, etc. will be GREATLY appreciated!!!
