Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Meal Vouchers

I have a question, I have never used a Q & C voucher before. If I go eat at Pecos Bills in MK, can you order say the Double cheeseburger for $6.69, (this comes with fries or carrots already) and still order a side order of fries? Or is the fries that comes with the burger considered the side?

I'm just trying to figure out if they will save me any money or not!

Thanks
Kim

It depends on the person taking your order. The fries that come with the cheeseburger are technically your side, but I found that at several locations we were able to order a side in addition to that. No rhyme or reason to it, some resturants we could order an extra side at one visit, but not order at the next, dont make your value saved dependent on getting the additional side.

Also remeber when figuring out value to include tax and or tip.
The vouchers are a good way to prepay food, and keep down food costs even if you dont save 10$ on food for each voucher.

does anyone know how it works if you get additional food not on the voucher? do you have to ring it up by itself or what .I am wondering how they do the tax part since I am guessing that is only paid for the voucher food not the additional food.

Kim: some have posted about buying an extra bun for .80 and getting 2 burgers from a double... a definite plan for me hence the above question!

My first post! :)

This board has been incredibly helpful in our trip planning! One question about the children's vouchers:

Each Vacation Kingdom lunch voucher costs $30.50 for adults or $12.75 for children and is valid for a full meal including appetizer, entree, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage at a participating restaurant location at the WDW resorts.

Does this mean that if my child has a $12.75 VKL voucher he can order only off the children's menu? It seems that most of the kids' meals at lunchtime cost quite a bit less than $12.75. Or can they order off the Adult menu?

Also, I'm assuming that milkshakes can't be ordered as a beverage at Beaches and Cream?

My head's spinning in trying to figure out whether to sign up with Hotwire, Netflip, Lillian Vernon, etc. Any thoughts as to whether there's a "best"? Do they all pretty much offer the same prices on tickets, and give back the same amount on, say, Target gift cards? Also, I saw that LV is offering a $25 gas card and Netflip gives a $25 Amazon card... does Hotwire do anything like that?

Sorry if this has already been answered - I've been reading posts and trying to follow threads and my head is spinning!!

Thanks! :sunny:

Hi speedyalice and welcome to the DIS!

I've joined connections and hotwire. I preferred hotwire. Though I had no problems with connections, a lot of other people have had some big complaints about them.
I received a check after my first order with hotwire for $10. And the membership was free for the first month. Also no problems cancelling before the 30 day trail was over.

I was at Beaches & Cream last month and we could not get a milkshake with the Q & C voucher.

I don't know about the childrens VKL voucher. Hopefully someone else will know.

Thanks for the info, Robinette. :) Makes sense that milkshakes wouldn't be included, and I figure with the Mudslides that everyone will be ordering, we'll get our fill of icecream! :hyper:

I wish I felt like I understood the Connections, etc. better and how points are earned, discounts are received, etc. Lot of money to be saved, that's for sure. I'll keep reading - thanks again! :earsgirl:

I'm traveling with DS 3 1/2 and planning to share vouchers with him. I've been looking at menus for KVL and it doesn't look like there are many options that he would like. Has anyone else shared an adult KVL with a child successfully? Any hints? Is there a chance I could order just a sandwich off of the kids meal instead of an appetizer? I also have one adult breakfast voucher to split with him. I would love to do a character breakfast but they appear to all be buffet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

another happy hotwire customer except I canceled before the end of free trial just cause I did not think I would use it enough. I do think the rest. and store cards you would need to be enrolled longer to use since the credit goes to the debit or credit card you have on file with them and that takes 1-2 billings, not the case with the vouchers since the savings is up front, not credited. if you cancel before hand you do not get the credit for the 20% off cards ( you can *use* the card still from what i was told) I was happy with the cust. service, even had a question after I canceled and they got back to me right away. I do not think hot wire is connected to connections, just sells the WDW vouchers also but I think LV is so you may have the same problems others have had with connections with them( not sure if they recently changed since someone posted something about LV having a new"name" the vouchers were under)

I used Q&C vouchers for our DEC trip in '01 (I think that was the one..). We loved using the vouchers! It seems to me that we weren't allowed to get a container of juice or chocolate milk, for example, but were only allowed to get a soda. It's been so long that I really can't remember, however.
I'm taking my parents on an upcoming trip, and I really want to be able to tell them in advance what they can/cannot order. (I don't want them to be uncomfortable using the vouchers.)
It seems like any "nonalcoholic" beverage would be allowed, but I seem to remember differently. Anyone with recent experience? Thanks, Angela

The KVL gives you enough food both with app. & meal to split with DS. I'm really not sure if they would switch for a sandwich but you can always ask. The best was Rainforest Cafe at AK 'cuz the app. was chicken fingers which DD loves. The one place that KVL didn't work well for us was at the Brown Derby...the food was great for adults that like "french/California' food but both the kids hated it.
Unfortunately they WILL NOT let you use 1 Adult breakfast voucher for both of you at a CM. It's priced "per head" vs. per plate, but you could use it for breakfast somewhere else.

hope that helps

I have never used any vouchers and am thinking of giving them a try in Feb. My DH dislikes coupons so did anyone ever feel "embarrased" using one i.e. get a dirty look or something?? Is this list of rest. where you can use them listed on the back of the vouchers?? If not I can print the list and bring it but that would be easier. Just when you think you have it all under control something new and confusing pops up!!

the rest. list is printed on the voucher. I have no problem with coupons and use them every chance I get so the "embarassment" issue is confusing to me (lol I am that annoying woman in front of you in the grocery line with a wad of them... but no expired ones) but someone did mention their husband ran and hid everythime they used the vouchers..
imo however it is not like using food stamps or something since you paid for them, just in advance just like you can pay for the gold or silver food plans...tell him very* rich* people do it all the time (if that is his concern) since some of the plans are mega expensive.

thanks Jan1033 - I use coupons too but DH doesn't grocery shop with me. For some reason he get embarrased about it - who knows??!! Hopefully if I show him the money we save he'll think it's worth it. I think he feels the rest. choices were really restrictive - which they are not. We eat at most of those places anyway when at WDW so why not save a few $$. Now I just have to figure out how many to get. I LOVE PLANNING!!!

Ok I've read this whole thread beginning to end 10 - 15 times :magnify:and I've now decided to go for it and try the vouchers. :D Just wanted to thank everyone for the great info!! I have one question.... What park do you usually get the most out of your Q&C vouchers? Well thanks again!!! ;)

Jann1033,
I noticed your countdown timer! Looks like we'll be there when you are!! I'll be wearing my lime green, so don't forget to say Hi!!

~Kermit~

we may have to change to the next week since hubby has a class to take in Vero Beach Jan 5-9 and then another 19-23 so we may be going Jan10-18..however I will not complain too much since that means about 3 weeks of no snow!

Jann1033

You LUCKY DOG YOU!!!

We just got 9 inches of snow Saturday!:crazy2: Can't wait to get out of here for awhile. Our official date is Jan 9-18!! Tell me please...this voucher thing is a piece of cake!! It will be our first time to WDW and although I love to save my hard earned money I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. It seems my notes and tips folder is so thick already!! I have visions of me and my family standing in the middle of the parks and me making everyone wait while I flip through my pages saying I know it's in here somewhere!! We have to eat at ..... because thats where we can use these vouchers?? So for a first timer is it a wise idea? TIA for any advice

Kermit

the places are listed on the backs so it should not take much to remember them ( good help for me!) .if you haven't already... go to www.allearsnet.com and look up the menus to get a general idea what rest. you want to eat at and which are worth your while at that park/resort/dtd. most have a few good choices so you can kind of plan to be in those general places at mealtime. there is a map with rest. listed at the uk disney website that I can not remember the exact name of right now...sorry it may come to my feeble mingd later or someone else probably knows it. imo I wouldn't buy them for every meal but a few will help cut costs ( I got 6 q/c, 3 Bv and 3 vkl for our stay and figured that alone will save us about $150 ...well worth it to me) but leave some flexibility

found the link hope it works

It IS a piece of cake (in fact it cames with all your meals LOL)
I used them for my whole trip, last month. 20 Q&C, 8 KVL, 8BV
If you remember the $10.00 rule for Q&C you'll have no problems.
Just don't leave ordering them to close to your departure date, that was the one thing that sent me in a panic.

Wendy

Where I used my 20 Quick and Casual vouchers last week:

Used 3 at Pepper Market (Coronodo Springs):
3 steak dinners (thin steak so order a little rarer than normal), tasty.
3 smoothies - 2 blue lemonade, 1 mango (sweet the way I like it)
3 sides - asked manager first she said OK. Chicken noodle soup (huge dowl), strawberries, and nachos w/cheese (not market Nachos)
3 desserts - oreo cake (not as good as it looked), honey bun and cheese cake (very huge chunk)
Had to remind cashier the manager said sides were OK otherwise she would have charged me. No other problems. This place could have been confusing had I not read ahead about it. Me the Mom was running around getting food while the family was happily chowing down.

Used 1 at MGM:
Rosies' (I think that's the right name). Had Double Cheeseburger (quite large), soup instead of fries, couldn't have both, a very large lemonade and a very delicous apple strudel type pie!

Used 3 at Cosmic Ray's in MK:
1 rotisserie Chicken dinner
1 chicken strips meal
1 burger meal
No seperate "sides" were allowed here, only the fries or carrots it comes with.
2 Quick Chocolate milks (the burger side cashier wouldn't allow milk just fountain drinks) so 1 coke.
OK meal, liked Peco's Bills better.
2 brownies, not bad for sugar free and one ice cream bar. They let me come back later for this so it wouldn't melt. No problems here at all and I know we saved money here, I just didn't think the portions were very large.

Used 1 at Peco's Bills in MK:
1 chicken wrap with fries (huge but small cup of fries)- no other side allowed
1 very large coke - watered my family of 5!
1 very yummy choc cream pie.
Worth every licken penny here!

Used 2 at Riverside food court at Port Orleans:
1 ribs dinner, I thought these were very tasty. Came with side of corn and beans (I think), OK but liked the dinner roll better.
1 spagetti dinner, kids woulded eat it, its the sweet sauce kind. Husband ate this. But the bread sticks it came with everyone liked.
2 Quick chocolate milk
2 dessert: 1 carrot cake and 1 choc cake. Good, but they once again looked way better than they tasted. Good meal (not as good as Pepper Market) and we had a pretty boat trip over from DTD.

Used 2 at Flame Tree at AK:
2 ribs meals. Not as good as Riverside. These were not nearly as meaty, but good anyway. Came with corn and beans again I think. No other sides allowed.
2 drinks - cokes I think.
2 desserts: 1 key lime pie - yummy and 1 frozen lemonade, this lasted an hour and was very refreshing! OK meal but we had to buy a side of fries and side of OR (these were really good)

Used 1 at Japan's Yakatori House:
Tonosama Combo, 3 meats (very small portions), I could have eaten 10 of the tempura shrimp, but only came with one. Rice and soy beans (sorry couldn't stomach these).
Large Coke
Chestnut cake - good but just cake
They let me have a "side"- tokyo sushi - yummy- I was sooo hungry for these and they were made just like I like them and I got them all to myself, the family wouldn't touch them!!
Kept the receipt on this one: Amount came to 21.36, owed 0 with voucher. Thats a big savings. And I actually was full enough to take the leftover sushi along.

Used 1 at Morocco's Tangeriene Cafe':
Chicken /lamb combo. Gook meat, didn't care for the salad, loved the hummus and bread, couscous was OK.
Let me have a side of fries (for kids)
Dessert: Some kind of choc cake - OK but just cake
Drink: they let me have a tangeriene slushy- very good and sweet!
Bill came to 20.61, owed 0 with voucher!

Used 2 at Beaches and Cream:
Was dissapointed in voucher use not in the food.
This is not how Mary Waring published it at all, they weren't nearly as generous now.
2 double cheeseburgers, one side of fries (very small portion)and the other with OR(very good). No other sides allowed.
2 cokes (with free refills) but didn't let us have milk shakes like I had hoped.
2 desserts: these alone were worth the price of vouchers. One No Way Jose' and the other was the Mud Slide. Rated 11 out of 10, out of this world, wonderful, heavenly desserts. You get the picture!! Lost the bill but I remember it would have been exactly twice the price without the vouchers!!

Used 2 at the Mara food court at the AKL:
1 chicken pizza, was allowed a side of bread sticks (very good) but the pizza was only OK- where's the chicken?
1 fish and chips meal-very good and large portion of fish. No sides allowed.
2 cokes or fountain drinks.
2 desserts: 1 cheescake and 1 apple pie strudel thing, good but not near as good as the one at MGM. Bill was 31.25. Owed 0 after vouchers.

Used 2 at our food court at the Movies:
2 double cheeseburgers with fries- no sides allowed.
2 brownies (huge and pretty good)
2 Quick choc milk
A barely passable meal, but we were starving!

All in all I think they were a GREAT value. Will do this again on our next trip! Remember the vouchers are 11.25$ and we were feeding a family of 5. But we never ordered too much food just to throw it in the garbage! (OK, just those soy beans!!)

Will be happy to answer anything I forgot to mention. Two thumbs way up for vouchers!!

Just returned home from our Thanksgiving vacation, and my vouchers were waiting in the mailbox. They were delivered by airborne express, but in the mailbox.
I'm feeling like a doofus, though. I ordered 40 of the Q&C vouchers for an extended family trip. We're staying at Pop Century, where I intended to use the majority of them for dinners. It never entered my mind that PC wouldn't be listed on the vouchers. Arrrg!PC is not a listed restaurant. :(
I'm going to call Hotwire tomorrow to see if I'll be able to use them there. What do you guys think?
