As fun as it would be to talk mullets all day, I think it's time to get back to the Trip Report. Mostly because I'm leaving on vacation in 9 days and I really want to get this finished up before I go.
Last night had been a pretty long one, saying out for Illuminations and the long bus ride/walk back to the villa. Our plan was to not rush too much today, because it was going to be another long day - Animal Kingdom until around 4, then go over to Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. That being said, the time stamp on this picture is 9:06am.
I ran over to Expedition Everest for FastPasses, then met the group over at Kilimanjaro Safari.
We've all seen the animals, so I won't boar you with too many pictures. (Boar! Ha! And you thought I was out of puns!)
The ride was fairly typical in the beginning. There were plenty of animals around, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Then we hit the grasslands area, and the giraffes were munching on some trees right off the path. Literally, right off the path:
Warning! Cute Baby Animal Picture coming up!
This is when the driver did a very un-Kilimanjaro Safari-esqe move. He slowed down. A lot. Maybe it was so we could actually get good pictures or maybe it was so that he wouldn't spook the giraffes, but either way it made for a very cool photo op.
Warning! Another Cute Baby Animal Picture coming up!
In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle, the Lion Sleeps Toniiiiiiiiiight. And during the day. And in the morning. And evening. Just about all the time.
Well, we had to cut our two week safari short due to some poachers, but I'm happy to report that we got the baby elephant back! Again. Just like the last 13 times. You'd think by now Disney would but in some better security to keep those poachers out.
After the safari and a quick snack (mmmm...zebra dome) it was time to head to Asia and ride Expedition Everest.
While Bambi, Kaylene, Carol and I rode EE, the kids hung out with Grandpa. Madison and Kayden supplied the beats, Evan supplied the Boogy.
Since this was the fist week of December, it was Pop Warner time at Disney World. We really didn't run into too many extra crowds because of them, but there were several roaming bands of cheerleaders wandering the parks. I tried counting the redundancies and oxymorons on her shirt, but then I got a headache and stopped.
OK, Jr and Midget are pretty much the same, right? But then you're also Large and Advanced? What ever happened to good old
"Rah Rah Ree!
Kick 'em the Knee!
Rah Rah Rass!
Kick 'em in the....other knee!"
We met back up with Grandpa and the kids by It's Tough to Be a Bug.
Just like with Ohana, the last time we had seen this show was when Madison was just a baby. She was sitting on Bambi's lap during the show. When the stingers popped out and hit her in the back, Bambi jumped and startled Madison, who began crying. I took her out of the theater so she wouldn't disturb anyone - so neither her nor I ever saw the end of the show. Not like she would remember seeing the beginning of the show anyway - she was 7 weeks old, for Pete's sake.
This time around went much better. I think the kids must have been leaning forward, because I don't recall anyone jumping at the stinger in the back. At the end, however, was a different story. As the bugs exited underneath you, Madison flew about 2 feet off of her bench with a look to total surprise, shock, and bewilderment on her face!
Lunch time means only one thing at Animal Kingdom: Flame Tree BBQ and their awesome outside seating.
After lunch, we wandered over to Dinoland. Some of their Christmas decorations were tasteful.
Others better fit the themeing of the area.
A quick spin on the "Not Dumbo" ride:
After Dinoland, I split from the group. I hadn't ridden Dinosaur since, you guessed it, Madison was just a baby. No one else was interested in riding, but it was only a 15 minute wait, so they went on ahead while I rode solo. I guess I had forgotten how bumpy and herky jerky that ride was. It's a fun enough ride, but once every 6 years or so seems like a good enough interval.
Meanwhile, Kayden hugged Pooh.
