Everything Michigan....

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. . . .:sad1: Not a fan. . .

OMG I was just saying the same thing... :rotfl: My kids were out bright and early building a snowman.. We dont' have much yet so they used the neighbors snow :rotfl: Is it June yet?

The forecast is for 9-11 inches of snow in our area in Jackson. DH & DD are out doing their Christmas shopping today and then going to see Narnia so I am staying home to wrap gift and relax. The snow is beautiful from my view inside the house but I am going to like it when I have to get up and go to work tomorrow. Oh well, this is Michigan and we knew it would show up eventually.:goodvibes

We got about 2 wet inches or so.. Maybe 3.. (wyandotte) Kids are on cloud 9 they started the sledding hill.. :rotfl:

Just wait. . .it is coming your way. . .nasty to your west--still wet and heavy.

Gee thanks. LOL We got about 4" now.. calling for 2 to 4 more tonight.

I am really hoping that my DH gets a snow day tomorrow! He could really use it, we've been so busy lately he's hardly seen DD. I think if he does get one, it will be because of the -15 wind chill that's projected and not so much due to the snow. Here's hoping!

Snow Day today!!! I think its because of the cold temps not the snow...

It's too early to call 3 of the grandkids. I hope they are back to bed. They will be thrilled to get another snow day here north of Ann Arbor. Hope our other 2 grandsons get one too, in Ann Arbor schools! :0) It's Dec. 14th.

Hi!!! We just found out my DH is getting a transfer to Selfridge ANG in about 6-8 weeks. So excited but I know nothing about Michigan! We are originally from Ohio and currently live in Alaska so we are not too worried about the weather;)
Anyone in that area? We need a good school district and nice rental that tkaes dogs:eek:
Thanks!!!

My husband works at SANGB but has a 50 minute commute as we live in West Bloomfield in Oakland County (he works 48 hrs on 72 hrs off so it isn't bad for him). A lot of people he works with live in Chesterfield Twp and other communities north of the base. If you don't mind a 25 minute drive, Rochester Hills (we rented a condo there that took pets 10years ago) and Shelby Twp have reasonable homes for sale and rent and great schools.

We're in Midland for a hockey tournament this weekend and it's $2.98 here.

We are going to Alpine Valley skiing tomorrow! I'll post pics when we get back.

Hello my fellow Michigan DISers!

Just wanted to bump this thread to ask about going "up north". We moved here a few months ago and love it -- people are wonderful and we are enjoying living here.

So, we've heard from alot of folks that we need to go up north. Where do you prefer? On Lake Huron or Lake Michigan? Grand Haven or Traverse City? Or the small towns inbetween?

DH is the outdoorsman of the family, our girls love swimming, fishing and camping, I like to sit back and read a book with a nice glass of wine :) No, I enjoy the outdoors but also think I'd enjoy seeing some of the wineries in western Michigan.

Would love to hear where everyone goes. Thanks!

I'm a bit more of a Lake Mich kind of gal myself but will say Lake Huron is beautiful. I just find the towns to be less developed, I think Lake Huron is awesome if you are into camping.

On the Lake Mich side we have had great weekend vacations in Grand Haven and Holland, both have nice beaches and fun stuff to do.

My sister has a house in Charlevoix so we mostly go there now and really like that area, Charlevoix, Petoskey/Boyne. You can also take the Ferry to Bager Island. http://www.charlevoix.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=31

All of those towns have good beaches, good restaurants, quaint shopping etc...

Mackinac Island is a must do atleast once and can be combined with Tahquamenon Falls. www.exploringthenorth.com/tahqua/tahqua.html

I'm sure others will have equally as good of ideas as these! There is so much to do in our state.

Have you been to the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village yet??

I have to agree you can't go wrong anywhere you go. We are heading to Muskegon this weekend for a hockey tournament. Last weekend we were in Traverse City area and hit all the ski hills within an hour of there! Lots of fun!

I like the Traverse City area a lot. But then again, I like the wineries. :lmao:

I, too, love the Traverse City area. We usually base ourselves in Traverse City (usually rent a condo right on Grand Traverse Bay) and take day trips to Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Leland, Suttons Bay, Northport, Frankfort, etc. There is so much to do in Northern Michigan.

You have to do Mackinac Island (at least once) and perhaps explore the Upper Peninsula. Michigan really is a beautiful state. Of course, I'm a native Michigander, so I'm biased.

OMG I was lmao when we were in TC.. We stayed a Best Western and on the table when you checked in there was a box of pamphletes with tons of winery locations and tours! I said yep thats my kinda place :rotfl:

My DH and my friend and his wife went to like 12 in one day. That was one crazy day. We hit up both peninsulas. We bought so much wine that trip and we are almost out. It is sad because we need to make a trip back up there and I don't think it will be this year (I will just have to buy some at Meijer). Maybe next year's trip back home will include a trip to the wineries.
