Hi!!! We just found out my DH is getting a transfer to Selfridge ANG in about 6-8 weeks. So excited but I know nothing about Michigan! We are originally from Ohio and currently live in Alaska so we are not too worried about the weather
Anyone in that area? We need a good school district and nice rental that tkaes dogs

DD when to star base there last year and had a blast, but we live quite a bit aways from there so no clue for school district and rental. With the economy around here the way it is you should be able to get a good rental.

Michigan is a beautiful state, try to visit up north when you move here.

DD soccer will be ending in a few weeks and hoping to take DD to learn to ski so I really enjoyed the pictures above.

Just don't move to New Haven. It is near the base, but the schools are horrible. I lived there for a little bit after I got married. I grew up in Oakland county and their schools are by city. In Macomb county, where Selfridge is, they don't break it down by city. Macomb (the twp, not city) is nice. And you shouldn't have a problem finding a rental since the housing industry took a dive years ago.

Alaska gets old after awhile

I had looked at a house posted by another military member in Mt Clemens but now it looks like the schools might be not so good there. My DD starts high school next year so schools are important.

From what my husband said, Mt. Clemens isn't that great either. From what I understand Chippewa Valley and L'Anse Creuse school districts are good. Hopefully someone from Macomb County will chime in.

Parts of Macomb COunty are great and others not so much. Grew up there and my parents still live there. Chippewa Hills and L'anse Cruz were good schools when I was in HS. My dad is a real estate agent and could probably help you. Not sure about the rental part if he knows anyone. If you are interested in talking to him, pm me and I can give you the number and his name.

I know several people in Utica and Romeo schools and they are happy, but I don't know how close it is to the base.

I am finding that is the general consensus. Guess he will have a bit of a commute.

Hmmm....Rochester Hills isn't too far. It's supposed to be a good place for young adults, but I don't know about schools.

Finding a rental should be easy, no one can sell their homes here, so...

I grew up in Rochester Hills. It is a really nice area, but the commute would be harsh for Selfridge.

Only problem is finding a 4 bedroom that allows dogs

I grew up in Rochester Hills. It is a really nice area, but the commute would be harsh for Selfridge.

It's looking like Rochester would take more than the 30 minutes my DH will commute.

Also I will be finishing my degree and will be commuting. Hopefully gas is cheaper than the 3.91 I paid today!

I think gas is still pretty expensive everywhere. I moved to VA a year ago and my mom and I are always comparing gas prices and VA is always cheaper than MI. And in VA the prices are creaping up. But in the Detroit area everyone is always commuting!

My DH looked it up on the interent and said it was $2.81. I don't know how accurate it is but he sure was happy! LOL

I paid $2.88 in Saline yesterday for gas but in Ann Arbor it was $3.09
