I can't believe all of the downriver people! I grew up in Redford but have lived in Brownstown for the past 11 years and the kids go to Woodhaven schools! I always see alot of Mickey antenna toppers around here, they must be fellow disers!

Hi friend! I haven't really been on since last spring because I found myself spending way too much time here. Had to get back to real life The kids are pretty good except that Ainslee is sick right now. Other than that, all is well! Abby is walking, talking and causing trouble! Hope everything is great for you down in the Carolinas!

And big news....... we aren't in NC anymore. We moved to Florida (the panhandle) over the summer. New job for the DH. Puts us 3 hours closer to Mickey!

We are headed to the World in December (3-7) with UJ and my sister! First trip with resident discounts!

FLU UPDATE IN BATTLE CREEK......Schools are closing rapidly here....
2 entire school districts are closed for remainder of week....(Gull Lake & Harper Creek).....Our school (Lakeview) had 200 absent from the junior high today......will probably close......Our HS is OK.....so far......Our quarterback (Sr.) has a confirmed H1N1 case.......probably wont play friday.....its not good here!!!!!

We are at Yake in Woodhaven. It seems to be the flu and cough. I have pnuemonia and I am pretty sure DD 5 does too, but we could not get into the doc until tomorrow. They were already double booked for today! One of our elementary schools had 130 out, one had 85 and one had 100. Those are what I know of. There are confirmed cases of H1N1 at the middle school I hear. The Wayne County CDC has apparently told local docs not to test for swine flu, there are too many people coming in. Just treat mild cases with fluids, rest, and 5 days at home! It is craziness.

What school in Wyandotte are you at? My Dsis teaches at Garfield.

We are only one district over from you guys (Huron) ~ I guess I had better brace myself. I do my shopping at the Kroger there at West and Telegraph so whatever is going around I'm sure I've already been exposed to.

My youngest DD(11) told me tonight that she was nauseous and couldn't even stand to smell food ~ I hope it was just something that didn't sit right with her.

On another topic, can you guys believe what happened with those marathon runners? So sad.

No reason to shut the thread down, just a general lack of topics. I'll start one:

So, last week my boss was supposed to go to a meeting in Windsor, but on the morning of he realized he couldn't find his passport. So, he didn't make it to the meeting. Point being, at work we all ended up grousing about the new border restrictions. I mean, his office looks out over the river and he needs a passport to get to the other side?! WTH?! I remember when you could decide "Hey, let's go to Amherstburg for dinner!", jump on your boat, and be there in an hour. No need to worry about declaring if you'd only be there a little while. Staying overnight in Canadian waters just required a short phone call to customs, and they never checked up. Heck, I grew up tacking back and forth across the international line all summer long.

I feel as though we're losing some of the benefits of living along the largest undefended international border in the world. Oh yeah, homeland security and all that, blah blah. I am at least, if not more, worried about terrorists coming in from Ohio as I am from Canada.

I think she was getting a little offended because everytime she came downstairs for something we were following her trail with Lysol, LOL! Poor kid ~ but nobody else got it!!

In other MI news , are the rest of you as glad as I am that it is election day? I'm so sick of hearing about all of this nonsense with the city council and mayoral stuff.

I'm glad it's election day because I'm so sick of the ads for Ohio politicians and Issue 3! Our local stations are out of Toledo--not that I have a problem with that, but I'm as tired of Toledo and Ohio politics as I get of our own. Can't (or don't want to) imagine what it is going to be like in 2010!

I hear ya' on the flu stuff as well. I just checked my facebook a few minutes ago and three people have posted "not feeling well" status updates. . .

Tess ~ are you in SE MI as well? We're downriver (close to Monroe) and we get the Ohio stations as part of our cable, too. Being so close to the Canada border, we also get the Canadian channel CBC which is kind of neat.
