Everyone Loves Raymond

My mother-in-law IS Marie Barone ..... times two ! ;)

I loooove the episode where he sets the kitchen on fire too. That one makes me laugh until I'm crying!

When Ray goes to get the short hose he bought and it only reaches into the living room...OH MY GOSH!!! That scene just cracks me up!!

ELR, like most sitcoms on TV, is an exaggeration (one hopes!) of people's personalities. Is that how I treat my husband or my family, or how they treat me? Gosh, no...but it's not a documentary, it's a comedy.

As for the hamper...we have the same trouble in our home. I honestly believe that my husband MUST have been attacked by one as a small child. Why else would he be physically unable to get within five feet of it???? :rotfl:

All I can say is that it makes me laugh out loud. I think my favorite was the time they told the dad they'd been having "stair races" and that's how Deborah got hurt. :) And the one with the toaster! And the one with the meatball lessons....I really miss it. I guess there are shows that everyone thinks is funny that I don't get, too.

Ray is a lazy husband who barely watchs the kids and does not work around the house. If I had to live with him (and across the street from his parents) I would be PO'd as well.

I agree. I could very much identify with Debra on ocassion...not so much for her husband but for her MIL. Fortunately mine didn't live across the street.

OP... the Producers probably showed those clips because the fans of the show "get" the humor. Really that is a show where a small clip is not going to tell you the whole story. If it was a new show to draw in an audience the clips might have been different.
I loved the show because the feelings expressed were over the top drama and what made it funny was how exaggerated the emotions were but they did reflect true human feelings and conflicts with family identity, marriage relationships and individuality.
Comedy's are unrealistic but that what makes them funny :rotfl:

I love the show where Ray goes to church and finds out why his dad is a regular church goer! OH OH and the one with Ray's annoying cousin!

You have to get to know the characters and some of the story background to understand clips like the one's showed on the view. I adored ELR. Many of the episodes were so true to my marriage. Thankfully, my MIL is nothing like Marie though, lol. I lived for Frank's (Ray's father) one liners.

I think the suitcase episode was one my favorites too. Many of the bedroom scene ones hit so close to home.

Oh I wanted to add...watching Ray made me love my DH more and my own in-laws are angels comparatively :rotfl:

I love the show where Deborah accidentaly threw away some tickets to a sporting event or something but didn't want Ray to get mad at her so she talked Marie into taking the blame. Or something like that - it's been awhile. DD and I were watching it together and we laughed so hard we were crying! :lmao: :rotfl2:

OT, but DH played in the World Series of Poker last year and met the guy who plays Robert!

I think ELR is one of the funniest, most well written, and most realistic family sitcoms that has been on in the last 10 years. So many of us can relate to the family dynamics. We try to watch the reruns when we can!

I don't understand how anyone can pass judgement on anything that lasted 8 years just because they saw 2 thirty second clips on a talk show. Seems odd to me but to each his own.

I have never watched Seinfeld either, the only clip I have seen was about a contest to see who can go longest without touching ones self.

Must be what the show is always about...

Seriously - there is no reason to get all snippy - the OP is just asking if this is what the show really reflects. Just because you love the show doesn't mean others can't like it. Take a deep breath.

I love the show. Especially Marie and Frank. I love any episode where Robert dances! (I think the show started going downhill when they brought in Robert's mother, father and brother in-law. Can't stand anything those 3 actors are in.)

I also love Sex and the City AND Seinfeld!! :thumbsup2

ELR was popular because so many families could relate to it. Despite what you saw on the clips, it really is a hilarious show! My favorite episode is when Ray gets fed up with Debra because she is never ready to leave on time. I can't remember exactly where they were going, some kind of banquet or something. She wasn't ready to go when it was time so he left her. As it turned out, the reason why Debra wasn't ready to go is because her curling iron was stuck in her hair and she couldn't get it out. :rotfl: That episode reminds me so much of me and DH because I am never ready to go on time. But my DH would never leave me because he knows the consequences would be severe. :rotfl:

ETA: Anyone remember the episode when Marie & Frank tell the family they are moving out of town? The scene where Ray, Debra, Robert & Amy go into the kitchen and jump up and down with joy about the news... Ray was so excited he picked Debra up and threw her on top of the refrigerator. I'm LMAO just thinking about it! After typing all this I've made the decision to buy it on dvd.

We think the show is hilarious too. As others have said, it's just a comedy, not to be taken seriously. Every comedy has episodes that might not be as entertaining as others. I personally don't really care for Seinfield on a regular basis but I think some of the episodes are funny.

I think part of why I enjoyed ELR so much was because there were certain episodes that did reflect my own life/marriage to an extent. Not completely realistically of course, we're not that funny IRL, but some of the issues on the show were the same ones we had at home. The suitcase of cheese? Definitely something I could relate to. Not a week goes by that I don't wonder why this man I married is incapable of putting away something he got out. And I won't even go into the efforts I've made to enable his socks to land in a laundry basket.............

Speaking of snippy...
OMG, I love Robert and Amy's wedding dance. And I also agree with the poster about Amy's parents and brother....I couldn't stand them...but I'm guessing that was the point. It has always amazed me that "Frank" didn't get any awards, I've always found his wit on target and the best.

The PMS episode is one of my favorites.

Debra: If I have PMS, and I'm not saying I do, is that how you help me? By tape recording me? Telling me I have PMS? That doesn't help me Ray, THAT DOESN'T HELP ME!!!
Ray: Well WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?! SHOW ME WHAT TO DO! JUST DRAW IT OUT!
Debra: Have you ever thought about giving me a hug?
Ray: ....A HUG?!
Debra: Yeah, a hug. Did you ever think about huggin' me, ya jerk?
Ray: Well it's pretty hard to hug someone who's trying to kill you!
Debra: Well it never even occured to you, you've never even tried it before!
Ray: Well LOOK, THIS is not huggable! This is not Debra! This is the woman who shows up once a month to rip into me like a monkey on a cupcake!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That is my favorite too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao: :lmao:

I also really like the Halloween show. Remember........after Ray had finally gotten the "things", Frank gives out the candy "coins" to all of the kids!!!!!!!!! I thought that one was so funny too!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes!!! I loved both of those episodes. My DH will go out of the house and get into the car and start it. He swears that one day he is really going to leave me. (He knows better ;) )

I remember almost falling out of my chair laughing when Ray threw Debra "on" the fridge and missed. Man, I miss that show.

As for Seinfeld. I loved that show too. And I AM master of my domain! :thumbsup2
