Everyone in Room Needs Same Package?

Does everyone in the room have to get the same package? For example, if I bought an annual pass to get the discount, can my package include only the park tickets for DH and the kids (because my tickets and park hopper are on my pass, right)?

If we all need the same package, does it make sense, for a deluxe room, to get one annual pass and forgo the package completely (especially if I'm not sold on the dining plan yet). Or can we book a package of room and a dining plan without any tickets?

Obviously a little confused here.

Thanks.

I was just wondering the same things, toying with the idea of one person getting an AP for hotel discounts etc......

You can get an AP for one of you to get the room discount. Then the other person in your party can purchase their tickets separately from Disney or a cheaper 3rd party like Undercover Tourist. However doing it that way, you would not be able to get the Dining Plan.

Use one of the tickets to upgrade to an annual pass after you have used it once. Or save a ticket for another trip.

No one needs a package to stay at a WDW resort. You can get the room-only reservation and each person gets their own ticket (or no ticket even). If you mean getting "free dining", yes everyone must get the same room-ticket combination that satisfies the promotion.

If you have an AP you can get a ticketless package with room and dining, then purchase tickets for everyone else separately.

If you don't want dining, no used in getting the package, just get a room-only and keep the much better cancellation policy.

If you want free dining, everyone (even the AP holder) must purchase at least 2 day tickets.

To pay for the dining package, you have to have at least 2 days of tickets. To be eligible for Free Dining, you need at least 3 days of tickets.

Right now it is at least a 1-day base ticket for dining on a regular package, and at least 2 day base tickets for free dining (you must have a minimum 3 night stay for free dining).

I am not sure that they even have to be purchased separately from Disney? I was playing around online and after selecting our room for a family of 4 it let me decline the tickets but use the blocks at the bottom of the page to add 1 adult ticket, 2 children's tickets, and 1 annual pass. So not a package but I do not want a dining plan so I am not sure what, if anything, I am giving up by doing it this way?

I actually don't understand what you are saying, but you can get less expensive tickets buying them from someone other than Disney. That's why people do it.

Unless you buy Disney gift cards with a Target discount, in which case I pay only $8 more to do it all through Disney than through UT, even with the Mousesavers rate, which is the cheapest I have found so far (still need to look into AAA). To me, $8 is worth the convenience of doing it all through Disney, especially if I decide to let a travel agent do it for me. I assume he/she will get a commission from Disney and not UT.

You can buy tickets from Disney separately (not as part of a package) if you wish to. In fact if you have a room only reservation, the tickets will not be part of a package, even if you bought them at the same time as your room reservation. So if you prefer to purchase them from Disney you can certainly do that. The big difference is that you can buy all different lengths of ticket if you want. If you have a package, everyone on the package must have exactly the same type of ticket.

Thank you. Yes, I figured this out by playing around on the Disney site, and this is exactly what I decided to do. Room only and then later (but hopefully before any price increase in late spring!) I'll get tickets and/or an AP.
