EVERYONE can use FastPass...

I blame Six Flags for people thinking that Fastpass isn't available for anyone. I have never used Flashpass at Six Flags since I try to go on days where the park will be empty but I have heard many stories about people using Flashpass lines being yelled at by people in standby and a lot of resentment towards them. I think a lot of people at Disney figure Fastpass is the same way and don't know they can use it too.

Thanks to all my reasearch prior to our trip last year, everyone in my group was schooled in the beauty of the fastpass. One afternoon while we were zooming past everyone in the 90 minute stand-by line at BTMRR, my hubby turned to me and said "why doesn't everyone use these fastpasses?"

I know some people who understand the fastpass system will still choose to stand in line with FP for other rides in their pockets but there is just no way I am going to choose to wait 90 minutes for a ride that I can come back to later and wait 10!!

I know that not everyone wants to be super-planner on their vacation but for me, I want to know what to expect and not miss out on opportunities because I didn't know something was an option!

I think it is funny how they leave key info out of that fastpass instruction!

Sure some people don't get it or don't use them, but if it's 12:00n and your fast pass doesnt start till 1:30pm what are you supposed to do? Obviously not go in a stand by line cuz that makes you an idiot.

I don't think that's what anyone is saying. I'm sure 90% of the people in the standby line have a perfectly logical reason for being there. I certainly don't think they're idiots just because they're in the standby line.

The people I think are, well, not idiots but not well informed, are the ones giving the hairy eyeball or making comments to folks coming down the Fastpass return queue.

Which, for the record, has never happened to me. If someone at WDW really doesn't understand Fastpass they must willfully be trying not to hear it. It's everywhere!

I was chatting with a family behind me at the meet and greet by Pooh's Playful Spot. I was mentioning how we spend most of our time in the MK on the Winnie the Pooh ride. I then found out they hadn't been on it and that they didn't know how the Fast Pass worked. I waited for them to get their photos and then showed the mother how to use the Fast Pass machine. She seemed shocked that it was free and anyone could use the Fast Pass machines.

I wish all theme parks in America had that system. I hate waiting in long lines with a passion. It's funny that it doesn't bother me that much in Disney though. ;)

We just got back from Disney from December 2-4 and fast passes were nearly worthless. I have never seen the lines as low as they were! I felt so silly for getting fast passes and then walking on the rides with no waiting. But my fast pass training is so ingrained in me, I can't walk by a fast pass machine without inserting my ticket. It's like a sickness!

We did have quite a lot of weather those days.

I do have some nice fast pass "souvenirs" from it all.

Nothing like a little weather to make the other guests leave. I love it when it rains.

It amazes me how many people at WDW do not use or understand the FP system. On our last trip I was behind a guy at the FP line and he could'nt understandd why he kept getting the "this is not a valid FP" ticket. I explained to him that since he had a FP for another attraction he would not be able to get another one until the time indicated on his FP. He looked me dead in the eye and said "Well that sucks." If I had more time I could have gone into an explanation on how the system works, but we were headed to Space Mountain so I just shrugged my shoulders and got my FPS.

I also noticed on this trip CMs letting people use FPs from other attractions if the FP attraction was down. The return line for PP was huge and the CM there was letting people use FPs from Philharmagic since Philharmagic was not running. Is this common?

I can't say if it is common or not but it certainly is not right.

If someone gets a fastpass and comes back (perhaps several hours later) to find the ride is out of service then that guest may feel he should be able to do something right away with that fastpass, perhaps exchange it for a matured fastpass for something else. The result is the above.

Meanwhile the rule and policy is that if a ride is out of service, then fastpasses that matured during the outage are valid for the rest of the day. I personally (just IMHO) would stretch that to assert that if the fastpass line is unusually long then I may come back still later to use mine. In the example given, if people from Philharmagic have inundated the Peter Pan fastpass line I may intentionally jump to the conclusion that Peter Pan was out of service for awhile and would then expect to use my Peter Pan fastpass when that line subsided and at my convenience.

Like what?

Like the fact that it says to return "during" the return time instead of "during or anytime after." Shhh.......I like it that way. ;)

Meanwhile the rule and policy is that if a ride is out of service, then fastpasses that matured during the outage are valid for the rest of the day.

Isn't this the rule and policy/practice no matter whether the ride is down or not? I've never had an issue with using an expired FP (from the same day).

I know that no one will agree with me but that is the very reason that I think that FP's are junk. You rode twice while so many people were still waiting to get on once. That is legal but it is also the reason why people look at you like you have a horn growing out of your head. I still think that FP is a major cause of frustration for the vast majority of visitors. I'm not talking about the veteran, I am talking about the first timer.

For us to look down our noses at them because they, god forbid, don't know something that you do...is another reason. It was so much more fun to go to WDW before the introduction of FP. That is my opinion, of course, and I do use FP on occasion...it's a matter of survival. Without them and because of them the lines are a lot longer and the wait much more frustrating then it used to be.

I do not agree with you.:) Fast Passes are the great equalizer. Someone who comes into a Disney Park is assured of getting to enjoy 3-5 rides during the day NO MATTER WHAT. Not everyone has the ability to stand in a long line (parent with small child, someone with ailments, elderly). The queue system of have everybody stand in a line for an attraction rewards those with energy, time and health. Plus it is an incredible waste of time. I think FP reduces queue times for all others. To be sure, some (like me) will invest that "saved queue time" to go on another ride. However others will take that time to eat an ice cream, watch a parade, go to a show, enjoy the signts and smells. So the FPs REDUCE the standby lines as it takes some people out of line because they are guaranteed a spot lin the line later in the day

Your logic is that since some don't know about FP we should take it away from everyone and that would make it equal.

I have not noticed that people were turning their nose down at me as I was in the FP line, I must have been walking past them too fast.

Fastpass has been around now for so long, I'm still surprised that's it a mystery to people. At least now you can obtain multiple fasspasses throughout the day. In 1999 you could not obtain a new fastpass until your return time on the one you were holding. The system was so new and we got some for Space Mountain that were for 8pm and it was early afternoon! We wound up giving them away and couldn't get new ones before leaving around 6:30!

Current Fastpass rules are great!

Our next door neighbor went to WDW and never used Fastpass because they were staying off-site and thought FPs were only for those staying on-site!! We offered advice while they were planning their trip but they "didn't need any help."

Then there was the man I observed a couple of trips back asking a friend at the Buzz Lightyear FP machine, "Just where do you put the money in anyway!!":rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We fast pass all day and don't always use them. We give them to others to share a tiny bit of magic. I try to think of little things like that. We always get a Mickey balloon. Since we can't take it on the plane, we let DS give it to another child checking in when we check out. Let's DS share in the magic too.

We did that with our balloons this trip too and it was my 5 yr old DD's idea! We also passed on some Toy Story fastpasses we didn't have time to use (already went on it twice) and the family was so thankful! We also had a family come up to us in line at Winnie the Pooh and offer us theirs.

I just love sharing magic with others while there! As well as getting some too! :)
