i am not a sleeper and get up at 3 or so .. could i roam the ship decks? has any one ever done this? you would think i would be so tired but unfortunatly i have insomnia.

absolutely you can do this. I didn't do it quite that late, but nonetheless, you will be able to see lots of things in relative anonymity. Bring the video camera.

I was up very early once on disembarkation day (laying in bed trying my hardest to figure out how to stay on the ship) I wandered around a bit (I'd guess it was around 5-5:30 am) Ended up out on deck and watched as we sailed back into Port Canaveral. Then had fun hanging over deck 4 watching all of the action as they unloaded old stuff and reloaded new for the next cruise.

Must be awesome to roam the outside decks in relative quiet, with the sound of the ship cutting the water, and the moonlight and stars. WOW - Can't wait!!!! :cool1:

we roamed the ship on the last night.....and watched the docking in port canaveral (at about 4:30 am).....really interesting to watch....

A few times I have roamed both inside and outside on deck...love the solitude!!!

Once we were sailing back into Port Canaveral at about 3:30-4:00 am in a heavy fog.... and saw the lights of a ship only a few feet away...I was freaked out but then realized it was one of the casino ships that are docked in the causeway...we were passing by on our way back in...that was eerie!!

Here's my guess as to who you will find out and about at that time of the night:
1) hard working DCL CM's getting ready for the next day,
2) teens making out in the "dark corners"
3) their parents
4) the folks who partied a little to hard and couldn't find their room (not to many or ANY of these on DCL) and
5) folks like you that can't sleep.

I'm not going to be out and about then - my teen WILL be in the room (if not, that must be what the duct tape is for on the packing lists:teeth: ) and I really need my beauty sleep in order to function.

We have both roamed the decks at 1 and 2 in the morning, and been out on our verandah. We have seen flying fish, sharks, and ships passing in the night. It is very magical and quiet. Worth trying at least one night. Also, try to get up for at least one sunrise. Breathtaking!

I was up for sunrise in Key West, I went up to deck 10 and it was eerie, There were about 3 other peole up there, but when there is about 4 people on decks 9 and 10 you realize how big those decks really are. It was very peaceful and I didn't feel too spooked because 2 of the 3 other people were DISers, so I felt better, since I had met them at the Radisson and Sailaway.

I hope I am up early again this trip, if you don't see me up on deck don't call for me. LOL

#3....yes! I've been a parent looking for my teens in the middle of the night. It's very quiet, you'll see workers and groups of teens lounging around! The sea at night is beautiful!!

I am an early Riser..

Last cruise in 1999...I was up every morning at 4:00am..

Roamed the ship, Looked at the water...Realized how Big the ship really is..Watched the sun Rise."Wish my DW was up"

I love it..The Solitude, The Quiet...I only WIsh the Pools were open for an early Swim..

At about Sunrise, I look for coffee to bring my DW, as she likes Ice coffee..

I love the Early AM...

Our cruise in 2001, my daughter & I roamed around on the last night of the cruise after our husbands went to bed(around 12 midnight). We just couldn't sleep & we wanted pics & videos of the ship without all the people. We ran around barefoot & had a blast! It was wonderful to be so alone with just a few other people like us walking around. Cruise 2002 it seemed it was a good tradition so we did it again. Cruise 2003 she was pregnant & too tired, so I did it alone. It was wonderful!! Others were taking pics just like me. It's a good way to have one last long look at the ship!;)

My hubby is a late night/early morning roamer, and he's seen just about everything. The worst he's seen is drunk parents being led around by up-too-late kids, and the best is some fantastic sunrises. Happily, he shares those with me via his digital camera. One night, way back when there was still improv comedy on the ship, he was up till something like 3 a.m. chatting with a couple of the comedians and someone from guest services.

My DH "wonder"ed the deck at 3 in the morning to look for our DD17. She was playing ping pong with some friends that she made.

I was up at 5am doing laundry one morning...no one else around. And I watched the sun rise every morning, except pulling into Port Canaveral... I watched some of the docking, but it was too foggy to see the sunrise.
It's so relaxing walking around the ship early in the morning.... I'd see Brack & Annette a lot of times up on deck 10 too!!! HI GUYS!!!
