Ever regret paying for a Deluxe???

I would like to know how many days people who can't live without a deluxe stay at a deluxe. We have stayed at the former Golf Course Villas and Animal Kingdom Lodge and found them quite nice. However, at AKL when you leave the room you end up in a hallway with a hotel feeling. We spend very little time in a room. Because of our family size, we usually buy 2 rooms and stay from 14-21 days. I wonder how long people would be at a deluxe resort under those conditions. But I agree that a deluxe would be a perfect and magical place for 2 people on a short stay.

Yes and no.

I felt like I was wasting a lot of money at the Grand Floridian.

I have enjoyed the YC and BC and I LOVE the AKL.

I am however able to stay at the mods and Values without feeling deprived.

We only stay at a monorail hotel. The way I justify the $$ is that we only take one family vacation a year and we save up for it during the year. It is money well spent and it gives us more time to spend together instead of traveling.

We only stay at the Poly now and love it. We stay for 10-13 days at a time but I could easily stay there longer! I love the hotel feel and could never stay at a villa. When I'm on vacation I don't want to see a kitchen or multiple rooms. It has to have that hotel feel or it would just be like staying home. We go twice a year staying at the Poly for 25-30 days total and I still miss it when we check out! LOL!

We stay at the Deluxes due to our family size of 5 and I like it when we are all in one room so my plan of the day will go early and well. Rise and shine.

The only Deluxe I regret paying for was the deluxe savannah view at the AKL. No animals around for us. Very disappointing.

We have stayed at Poly, Yacht, Beach and Contemporary. We only go during value season or when we can get a good AP rate when we had them. We only get the cheapest room. Example - at the Poly we only request garden view. We spend a minimal amount of time in the room. My dh is big and tall and wants a queen bed. We also stayed at the Swan and split our trip with the Poly this time. I don't know if people consider that a deluxe hotel or not. It was great and the price was definetely a bargain compared to disney, but we did have a govt. disc. If disney does not come out with good rates then we will consider splitting our stay again this summer between a deluxe and the swan.

I dont' know what the difference between a garden view room and a lagoon view room is (money wise). I am sure it is nice to see it when you open your curtain. I guess it is just me, but I would save the money and go walk down to the beach. Our view this time was of the volcano pool. Fine for our 3 ds.

I know if you save for this and plan you will not be disappointed because you will be enjoying exactly what you have wanted.

My family has never regretted paying for a deluxe. Friends and extended family have stayed at the moderates and values and when I visited them it confirmed that the deluxes are well worth it for me. We have stayed at the Y & B and Wilderness Lodge. Both of those resorts I consider my home away from home. This December I will be staying at the GF. Our trips to the Y & B and WL were 6 night stays, our trip to the GF will be a four night stay. Never regretted a penny spent on the deluxe resorts.
To PalmTreeGirl I too am a "resort snob".

Yes, but only briefly. We went to the BC a couple of years ago and weren't happy at all(long story). I really regretted all the money I had spent until, after the 1st night, I requested a hotel change and went to the Polynesian. Because we are a family of 5, we usually stay at a deluxe but wouldn't be opposed to staying at mod or value!

I have never regretted staying at deluxes in general. I also did not regret staying at the All Star Music. That being said, I have regretted one deluxe in particular--the Beach Club. It gets rave reviews on this board, and it was by NO means awful, but it just wasn't as ideal for us as its sister resort the Yacht Club.

For me personally, my resort choice is a big part of my trip. I do spend time in my room, and I love having deluxe accomodations to come home to after a day in the parks. I also love their locations and transportation options. Plus, the theming is out of this world. Just my 2 cents. :)

Never.

We've stayed at the Dolphin and WL, and we thought both were worth every penny and more. We look forward to many more stays at both these resorts.

We have regretted our one (and only!) stay at a moderate. We stayed at CSR to save money. The whole trip, we were wishing we had spent the extra money for a deluxe. We decided we'd never make that mistake again.

NEVER!

We have stayed over 100 different times in a Deluxe and have NEVER regretted it!

skiwee.......I feel the same way. We have often thought about DVC but really prefer to stay in a hotel. To me this really feels like vacation. Heck, I barely cook at home, so why would I start doing it on vacation!
We always stay in a monorail resort...to me looking out over the Seven Seas Lagoon is the best.

Only once did i regret it but not because the hotel(Poly)was lacking. It was our first vacation and the final night after our cruise we wanted something special so DH said lets try the Polynesian and not knowing any better ended up paying rack rate. Live and Learn. :o

Only stayed at deluxes using codes or discounts and Loved every minute of it.

For a tall family of four ... two words...QUEEN BEDS!

I haven't regretted it but after Animal Kingdom and Riverside on our last two trips, we are going back to All Star. We stayed 11 nights at AK last trip and found that we were so busy we didn't spend much time enjoying the resort. The savanah view was nice and I enjoyed the balcony a few minutes a day but the overlook with the rocking chairs were even better and those you can visit even if you aren't staying on site. Besides, the walls as AK are SO thin that you can hear everything -including the honeymooning couple next door! The room wasn't much better than All Star and for 100+ per night, we are going back to AS. No matter where we stay we spend a lot of time at other resorts, AK and WL especially. It makes a BIG difference having a car to move around at will.

We wouldn't stay off-site -- that's just not Disney. (No offense to those of you who feel differently, but staying on site is just so much easier.)

We've stayed in moderates and deluxes, and we've been satisfied with both. We can easily afford the deluxe, but I am careful with money (which is why we can afford the deluxe!). I have thought, "Wow -- I spent $$$ for a place to sleep for a week. That could have bought _____ that my family needs/wants." That said, we've had a great time every time. Would we have enjoyed ourselves just as much in a less expensive Disney resort? Of course.

I just had my first deluxe experience and am afraid I'll never be happy anywhere else. We split our stay between the Polynesian and CBR and wish we would have stayed at the Poly the whole time!! There is a huge difference!

We've stayed at PO, DXL, CBR, ASM and Ft Wilderness, and were (a little) disappointed only once. 5 Years ago we splurged on a honeymoon Suite at WL for our 25th anniversary, and while we LOVE the lodge and would stay there again, I expected more from the room itself for $300/night. It had a nice big whirlpool tub in the bathroom, but short of that, it was really a regular room. What did make it worthwhile was an incredible view of the fireworks from our balcony!

Staying at a value hotel is like staying at a HJO's. We prefer to stay at a deluxe hotel. It's all part of the vacation experience.
