DH and I are probably going to buy a DVC resale at BWV next spring. (We LOVE the Boardwalk's location and the look of it, and the things there to do!!!)

Has anyone ever had trouble booking their home resort 11 months in advance? We always travel in July or August (though we prefer around the middle of July, we NEVER go away July 4th, so no holiday trips for us). I know this is peak season, but not as peak as Christmas week or Easter for example. We are planners, especially when it comes to vacation, so we would definitely book 11 months in advance. We are also both teachers so we know our summer off is a definite thing and not something we have to put in for at work and wait to see if we get the time off.

This is the one concern that still comes to mind with buying DVC, making sure I can go on my vacation to WDW every other year in a standard one-bedroom at my home resort, which would be BWV (we are VERY firm on BWV and nothing else for the home resort since we want to stay there every time). What do you all think? Ever have a problem booking 11 months out?

Without a shadow of a doubt, at that time of the year and a eleven months, none whatsoever. There might be a slight chance of you failing to get a boardwalk or standard view, but even that is very slim if you phone right at 11 months.

yeah, for DVC, the first week of december is more of a "peak season" than mid-july...

something like concierge at AKV might still be an issue at 11 months for owners in july and august, but for a 1BR at BWV, you should have no trouble.

Own at BWV. Never had problem at 11 months out including for prime times and always get boardwalk view -- in fact Christmas time is the only time I have actually called exactly 11 months out and usually I am closer to 10 months and often 9 or 8. Have reserved twice for mid to late July and got boardwalk view at 8 months out each time. Recommendation to be safe is call 11 months out for low point standard view or for boardwalk view but for many times of year that is not even needed.

I was able to get 9 nights in a standard view studio at BWV less than five months out in June of this year. :woohoo:

Never had a problem getting Boardwalk view at BWV. We usually travel during Food & Wine (peak for BWV) and usuallu I forget until I am at 10 months or later - never a problem.

Nope.

Nobody has a BETTER chance than you to book your home resort WHENEVER you want. You have equal footing. Nobody can book before eleven months out.

The only inequity I can think of is that people with enough points that want to (let's say) stay over on Christmas day will book the 7 days before and including Christmas day where others with small caches of points might not have the points to book a full 7 days and will be calling a few days later trying to get Christmas day included in their shorter visit. But you're not concerned about holidays so all is good.

How about a beach cottage Ms. Bobbi? Other than holidays, are there any other times that might be bad? :goodvibes

You are a tease! The OP is talking about BWV, 1 bedroom, standard. Now I am not even sure about the GV with the new reservations. I had secured one for our June trip, day by day, but (please BWV lovers, don't faint) I changed the accomodations to VWL.

I have no direct knowledge regarding BC...but DH and I are going to be trying for one again in 2010. If you want one, I hope you get one too!!! They are the best!!!!

I own at Boardwalk and the only trouble I had was for Christmas/ NYE trip. I was unable to be on the phone first thing in the morning for my first 3 nights, so was unable to get first choice studio standard or second choice BW view studio. I did get Preferred view studio and am waitlisted for BW view for those 3 nights. I was able to get BW view studio for the remainder of my stay. You said you probably wouldn't go during holiday times, so this shouldn't effect you.

I almost forgot to add that I was able to get BW in April for this August, but I waitlisted for Beach club and that came through, so it is possible to get BW ressies even in less than 6 months.

No, we never travel during the holidays. We stay home and have a huge family gathering! I am also a person who worries about everything, including worrying about not having anything to worry about...does that make sense? :rotfl: So, since we travel from NYC I am always paranoid about traveling when there is even a remote chance that it will snow here so much that it will ruin my plans. So we take our big vacation in the summer. The only year we deviated from that we decided to take a cruise out of NYC during Spring break (we're both teachers) in April. It was awesome, but in the summer we were like, now what? Well, I can't really say that because we moved into our house that summer and I was pregnant with our first son! ;)

Seriously though, it is only summer I would have to worry about, mainly July but if we couldn't get something for middle or end of July we would have no priblem going in August. The only reason we prefer to vacation in July is that DH and I (I mostly) get so excited about vacations and we always count down. We don't want to spend our whole summer off counting down to the end of it!!

I usually travel during Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, etc. and I have only had trouble booking at the 11 month window during Christmas at BW. The difficulty comes if you aren't on the phone at 9 am., you might have some days in a standard view, some days preferred, and no BW view, so you would have to waitlist. I have always had my waitlist come thru if I start at 11 months, though, except for a grande villa.

This year I called BWV to reserve a room for the last week of March 2009 (spring break). I called about 9 months out and no standard rooms available. Though, there were plenty of preferred rooms.

Magicdad

If I am on the phone exactly 11 months out at the earliest possible time I could call to book, it should be easy to get a standard room right?

Oh, we would never be going for 4th of July either, I am sure that makes a difference.

Yes, easy for summertime, even if you are going for the 4th of July week.

However, since the new reservation policy was implemented, I am not confident that it will be easy to get a SV room at 11 months if you want to stay between Thanksgiving and New Year's. We'll have to see what happens later this year when booking windows for that time frame open. That is the only time I think a BWV owner would have to worry if he/she called right when the 11 month window opened.
