We are very undecided about moving or staying where we are -- but that's another story.

If we stay in our current condo, we are going to make some changes that won't cost ALOT incase we do move at some point in the future.

One change is I would like to change the color of 2 appliances. We have a black dishwasher & microwave/hood. Our frig is almond. The stove is almond with black front & black backsplash.

I'm toying with the idea of have the almond parts of stove & frig painted black. They are 11 years old & in really good condition.

Has anyone ever had this done? Does it hold up good to scratches? (worried about the almond showing thru a scratch) Does it take them long to do? Do they take your appliances away to do it? Appox cost?

Any info appreciated.

Stop into your local Sherwin-Williams store and look in their aerosol section for Appliance Epoxy. Follow label directions for preparation and application. As for painting your stove Painting stoves and stovetops are not recommended due to the type of finish and exposure to heat. Most stoves and stovetops are finished with a porcelain or ceramic finish which makes it difficult to achieve acceptable adhesion with an after market paint. Even if you can prepare the surface properly and get the paint to stick, there is not a paint on the market that will not discolor when exposed to the heat of a stovetop. Even high heat products, while designed to withstand high temperatures will discolor significantly. This phenomenon is fine when dealing with commercial work where protection is more important than aesthetics but is not acceptable in your kitchen where aesthetics are of prime concern

Monkeyboy -- wow, thanks for the info. DH will be glad to hear that about the stove. He wanted the newer flat top kind anyway.

Steve.....LOL!!!!

I have never done it, but I have seen them (Hildi) do it on Trading Spaces. It has never looked good to me. Maybe they don't do it right though.

Don't think I'm up tp trying to spray paint it ourselves. Has anyone every had the electrostatic painting done?

my mom and dad had a neighbor do theirs a few years ago. He's an auto body painter and did it in his garage using his auto body tools. It looked great and held up really well.

I remember my dad painting our fridge and stove pink with spray paint when I was a kid. The results were surprisingly good...but I was about 9, what did I know?:D

we had the electro static done to our stalls in the ladies room at work quite a few years ago. The held up well but, really in an office setting, how much abuse can they get?

The were not shiny but more of a flat finish. Didn't show the fingerprints. I'd check around and see if you have any in your area that do that and ask to see some of their work.

Good luck.

Well I called around...and here's the results for anyone else ever interested.

Getting our frig electrostatically painted would be $245.
Our electric stove would be $185 --- but they wouldn't guarantee the stove --- because of the heat.

They asked a bunch of questions re: frig before they quoted --so thinking answers effect price. Ours will be changing from almond to black; freezer is on the top of frig; 2 handles need to be painted also & there is some chrome detail on the handles. Also asked our location.

Really no questions asked about stove other than gas or elec.

So it looks like we will get the frig painted....and buy a new flat top stove.

We painted an almond frig white. Dh's best friend used his car sprayer (used for painting) and it turned out great.

Our two year old stove had a littel "accident" recently. To be precise....I accidentlayy dropped a glass dish onto it and it hit in two spots wehre it created two chips. The stove is biscuit colored, but chipped down to the black part. Is there appliance "touch up" paint for this?

Anyone????

Bobbi

Yes, there is appliance touch-up paint. I touched up such a spot I noticed on the stove while cleaning up after Christmas dinner last year. Don't know what or how it happened.

I know we looked around WalMart & a few other places....but think DH finally found it at HomeDepot -- could be wrong. It's a tiny bottle with built in brush the size of a nail polish bottle.

Easy to do & I'm sure no one else even notices it. But it sure was better than seeing that black spot right in front.

If it is the same episode I'm thinking of, they tried to paint the fridge black. I thought it looked terrible, like the fridge was still cold when they painted it and they had problems with condensation. I definitely think they tried to take the cheaper route and didn't have it done correctly.
