Ever, Ever After: The TR Formerly Known as Wishing You Were Here- May 2011

The parking and bus situation are the 2 main reasons I don't mind skipping DTD. I always enjoy it when we can make it there, but it is kind of one of those things I don't miss if we don't make it there. Probably a good call on changing plans for dinner. If it takes that long just to find a parking spot, I'm sure it was probably going to be a pain to navigate the stroller through the crowds.

Oh, and about the "weird lady who eats alone with two toddlers" comment. It's called being a good parent. If anyone would think of you in a negative manner, they deserve to have their foot ran over or ankle bruised by your stroller. :lmao::rotfl2:

Friday and Saturday nights at DTD are really tough (and we're doing both nights in September). You made a wise choice going elsewhere with the boys for dinner. And that yogurt parfait did look really good. :goodvibes

And, of course, you were tired. You had a long day with the two boys!

DTD always seems packed, to me, so I can relate to your frustration over not finding a parking spot. It's a bummer that your evening plans didn't go the way you'd hoped. However, that roast beef sandwich sounds yummy, and the boys seemed to look happy, so at least something good came out of the evening. :thumbsup2
I bet you were exhausted by that point, though! Hopefully, you had a peaceful night of rest and were able to have a great morning!

The parking at DTD is always crazy...I really don't think there are near enough spots for the amount of people visiting WDW :confused3 Glad to hear that you had a good dinner at a different resort...that is one of the many resorts I have not seen

Aw your plan sounded like a lot of fun - but based on what you said about the crowds and then feeling tired, it probably was better to skip it. Hope you got a good nights rest!

Good choice on skipping DTD! Sounds like y'all had a nice, quiet dinner. Good end to a good day!

There aren't a ton of choices there at SSR. i guess they plan on you eating in your kitchen.

smart choice to rest up so you'll be ready for a day with Jeremy:goodvibes

Great choice!! SSR is so close and the food there is wonderful...at least we thought it was good!:rotfl2: Friday's and Saturdays are crazy at DTD...I've done the same thing not realizing what day of the week it is....hey, we're on holidays, we're not supposed to know what day of the week it is...at least that was my excuse :rolleyes1

Ugh, the parking at DTD drives me crazy sometimes!! Especially on the Marketplace side, if you don't get there at the crack of dawn, forget about getting a good spot!

Good idea, skipping DTD and heading over to Saratoga Springs! I would have never thought of that! SSR is kind of intriguing to me, I never thought I'd want to stay there, but the more I hear about it, the more interested I am! It sounds like you all had a great dinner there! :cool1:

You deserve a good nights sleep! I am tired just reading about your day with the boys!

We stayed at SSR a few years ago and I remember enjoying the food, but there were not too many choices. I'm glad you and the boys enjoyed your dinner. Bummer you had to miss WPE, though. That is on my list of places I want to try, but we ate at Earl last time we were at DTD. Maybe in August!

Love your TR...your boys are adorable! I'm glad to hear that you got so much done by yourself with your boys. They seem to be well behaved. We go in 9 days and I can't wait...I just hope that my DD is as well-behaved as your boys...although I will have my DH there and won't have to do it myself. Can't wait to hear (read) more about your trip!

Thanks! My boys are pretty well behaved although they do have their moments, just like anyone. I've always found them to be even easier at Disney World. Hopefully you'll find it to be the same with your DD. I'm sure you all will have a great time! :)

Smart move skipping Downtown Disney, sounds like it was crazy busy!

I think I made a good choice. The parking lot alone was pretty miserable, so I'm sure the rest of the place wouldn't have been much better.

I'm glad you chose to skip DTD...it sounds like it may have been a really busy night!

It makes sense, on a Friday night, at seven o'clock, that DTD would be really busy. I just didn't think it through before we got there.:rotfl:

The parking there is rather crazy!!! I'm glad you were able to have a relaxed dinner. It was probably better to end up in a quiet spot than a busy one. After being busy all day I bet the boys liked to soak up quiet time with mom.

I think it is your duty to share Disney store vinylmation sales/promos with your loyal readers. ;)

We've never had anywhere near as much trouble parking at Downtown Disney as I did that night. Come to think of it, I believe MK was closing at 7 that night, which would have added to the crowds. It ended up being a nice meal at Saratoga Springs, though. It was nice that it was quiet and peaceful.

I'll try to post on here the next time I see any Disney Store deals. I never know about them ahead of time, but just go to the Disney Store way too often.

Downtown Disney gets so crazy sometimes, I don't even like to be there myself, let alone with a double stroller to maneuver!

The few hours of relaxing in the room with the air conditioning sounds lovely!

I bet it would have been really hard to maneuver the double stroller through the stores that night. I'm sure we would have had to squeeze through the aisles and then the boys could grab things off the shelve. Doesn't sound much fun, actually.

Those were some good hours. The boys were being so good and playing so nicely and that air conditioning felt wonderful.:cloud9:

I'm still here! I was just very far behind - but it was so much fun to read your updates back to back!

I LOVED the update from Landon's perspective. I've done that with Henry a couple times, it's so fun to think of things from their point of view - and sometimes helps me, as Mom, see that something he says/does is reasonable for his age! :rotfl2:

You are doing AMAZING for solo parenting. Seriously, I would have been bald by the end of the day I think! ;) Nice change of plans to eat at SSR instead of DTD. SSR I'm sure provided a much calmer meal too-which is ideal with the littles!

Sounds like our Wednesday night at Downtown Disney. I ventured into World of Disney alone with my son in an umbrella stroller. I couldn't even move! I ended up setting down my stuff and parking it outside eventually. Tour group madness!

Very wise choice you made!

I like going to DTD, but I've never had that much trouble parking before. Jeremy, on the other hand, can take it or leave it, which is partially why I thought it would be good to go when he wasn't there. I do think it would have ended badly if we had stuck with WPE for dinner. The boys were getting so hungry by that point that they would have expected food immediately.

That City Mini could do some serious damage to someone's foot. :rotfl: I know no one would really think badly of me, but the boys and I are kind of conspicuous when we eat out together. People tend to notice us. I'm sure some of it is just the normal stares of admiration for the boys, but I'm guessing a lot of moms don't take two toddlers out to eat very often.

Friday and Saturday nights at DTD are really tough (and we're doing both nights in September). You made a wise choice going elsewhere with the boys for dinner. And that yogurt parfait did look really good. :goodvibes

And, of course, you were tired. You had a long day with the two boys!

I don't think we've ever happened to go to DTD on a Friday or Saturday night before. It just wasn't something I took into account when making plans. Saratoga Springs made for a pleasant night, though. I couldn't say whether the yogurt parfait was good- the boys ate every last drop. :rotfl:

It's funny, sometimes Disney tired feels different than regular tired. That night, though, I just wanted to go to bed.

DTD always seems packed, to me, so I can relate to your frustration over not finding a parking spot. It's a bummer that your evening plans didn't go the way you'd hoped. It may not have gone the way I planned, but we ended up having a nice night. It was very nice to not have to fight any crowds at Saratoga Springs. That resort always feels very roomy to me. And the roast beef sandwich was good, and I think the boys had a nice meal. Happy boys go a long way toward making a good night. I was getting excited about the next morning already!

The parking at DTD is always crazy...I really don't think there are near enough spots for the amount of people visiting WDW :confused3 Glad to hear that you had a good dinner at a different resort...that is one of the many resorts I have not seen

I wonder how many people are actually going to DTD and how many park there and use the buses. At any rate, I did learn something very important and will be able to avoid DTD on the weekends in the future. Saratoga Springs is nice. It's very quiet and peaceful, just the thing after fighting for a parking spot.

Aw your plan sounded like a lot of fun - but based on what you said about the crowds and then feeling tired, it probably was better to skip it. Hope you got a good nights rest!

It would have been a lot of fun, but the crowds would likely have been prohibitive. And there is a good chance Landon would have been miserable doing all the shopping anyway. It all worked out pretty well.

We don't mind DTD in the afternoon, but we try to avoid it at night now. Wow the people can be nasty at night. That and the crowds. Very brave attempting to go with a double stroller with the crowd levels at night.

Smart move skipping Downtown Disney. I'm not a big fan of the place at all for how crowded it seems to be, no matter what day it is!

I doubt anyone would've thought of you as a "weird lady who eats alone with two toddlers" if you went back to Pop! :rotfl: Glad you had a nice dinner, even if the boys weren't huge fans of that sandwich anyway. :)

Ugg, DTD on a Friday or Saturday nigh is madness. I'm sorry you had to miss it, but it was probably for the best. Maybe when they get Hyperion Wharf up and running it will help to disperse the crowds.

Glad you guys enjoyed Saratoga. I like Artists Palate, I think that while the choices are limited, the food is good none the less. Its our home DVC resort, so I may be a little biased, but I think its a nice restful place to have dinner.

Joining in on your trip report - enjoying it very much so far! We go in a few weeks and I am going to have a couple of days on my own, with my 2yr old, whilst the other family members go off to the "big rides" at Universal. You have given me great confidence I can cope with just one!!!

Good choice on skipping DTD! Sounds like y'all had a nice, quiet dinner. Good end to a good day!

A nice, quiet dinner is always a good thing with my two. I think it was good to try and do something simple and easy.

There aren't a ton of choices there at SSR. i guess they plan on you eating in your kitchen.

smart choice to rest up so you'll be ready for a day with Jeremy:goodvibes

I did get the feeling from the security guard that not many people come to SSR just to eat dinner. :rotfl: I did notice that there was more grocery items than there usually are in Disney food courts, so I guess they are figuring on people using the kitchens.

I was so ready for Jeremy to come back!

I thought the food at SSR was good, too. And it was very easy to find a parking spot. I'm sure if I had thought it through better, I would have realized that Friday at DTD isn't the best plan, but like you said, I was on vacation. The day of the week isn't so important.

Ugh, the parking at DTD drives me crazy sometimes!! Especially on the Marketplace side, if you don't get there at the crack of dawn, forget about getting a good spot!

That's just where we were, too, over by Marketplace. It was crazy. I'm not sure if we'll be heading back over there for awhile. I'm sure I could make do with the shopping opportunities at the parks.

A lot of people don't seem to like SSR and I'm not really sure why not. Too big and spread out, I guess? :confused3 I've always found it to be a beautiful resort. It's very quiet, too. And I like the walk from there to DTD.

It was a tiring day with the boys, but we had so much fun. I was looking forward to getting some sleep that night, though.

I didn't think there was a lot of choices at SSR either, but what we had was good, with the possible exception of the cookie. I think the boys were just grateful to be out of the car. We've been to WPE once before and thought it was really good. We didn't care for EOS, but it was extremely crowded and made for a stressful meal. Maybe we'll try it again someday.

:rotfl2:

I'm behind on a lot of my TRs, too. It is kind of fun to read a bunch of updates in a row.

Thanks! It's funny, if you look at it a certain way, then everything they do makes perfect sense. I still think he was being unreasonable with the ice cream, though. He likes Oreos and he likes ice cream, and I see no reason why he can't eat them together. :rotfl:

Overall, our day was mostly fun, but I was glad that the solo parenting part was coming swiftly to an end. It's just so much easier with two of us. The boys both seemed to do really well with dinner at SSR. Sometimes, the less exciting restaurants work out the best for them.

Sounds like our Wednesday night at Downtown Disney. I ventured into World of Disney alone with my son in an umbrella stroller. I couldn't even move! I ended up setting down my stuff and parking it outside eventually. Tour group madness!

Very wise choice you made!

Wow, that must have been pretty bad if not even an umbrella stroller could fit through the store. I don't really remember DTD being that busy any other time we've gone. Maybe it's that new Lego store...:rotfl:

We don't mind DTD in the afternoon, but we try to avoid it at night now. Wow the people can be nasty at night. That and the crowds. Very brave attempting to go with a double stroller with the crowd levels at night.

We might have to start avoiding it at night, too, especially on nights when none of the parks are open very late. I'm glad to hear the afternoons aren't too bad. I'd kind of like to go to Basin and WoD on our next trip.

If those crowds keep up, I could easily see us skipping it on most trips. I think it's fun, for days without tickets or something to do after the parks are closed. Of course that's when most of the crowds would be there, too.

Maybe they wouldn't have, but I was just as glad to not have to eat at the same place again anyway. Too many other great places to try. I sort of knew that the sandwich wouldn't be either boy's first choice, but it was hard to come up with anything better. They sure did like that yogurt, though.

Sounds like it was probably for the best. It would have been bad to have finally gotten a parking spot only to find all the restaurants too packed and have to go somewhere else anyway. The boys would have been very disappointed to be getting back in the car without dinner. I hope Hyperion Wharf is cool. Maybe they can add more parking, too.

I've only stayed at Saratoga once, but we had a great time there. It's kind of nice to have everything spread out, and get away from the crowds for a bit. And I think the boys needed a restful dinner that night.

Joining in on your trip report - enjoying it very much so far! We go in a few weeks and I am going to have a couple of days on my own, with my 2yr old, whilst the other family members go off to the "big rides" at Universal. You have given me great confidence I can cope with just one!!!

Hi! Thanks for joining in! Wow, your trip is coming right up! I'm sure you'll do great with your little one for a few days. It'll be nice for your 2 year old to get to spend some time alone with you. I always have a lot of fun with my boys whenever we get some one on one time. :goodvibes

I left the Artist's Palette with two happy little boys. I considered stopping by the horse statue to take their picture, but a large group of middle or high school kids dressed in formal wear were gathered around it.

We walked on toward the car. There were several people swimming in the pool and it looked like a lot of fun.

DSCI0201.JPG

"Carter water?"

"No, sorry, Carter, we can't swim here. You might get to swim at Pop Century, tomorrow or the day after."

"Pop Century!"

Carter giggled wildly, as if the name was the funniest thing he'd ever heard.

"Pop Century! Pop Century! Pop Century!"

With Carter Pop Centurying the whole way, we arrived at the car. I reached for Special Items...and it wasn't there.

I had thought I had thrown it back in the stroller. But maybe not.

I must have tossed it into my bag instead. I searched through my bag, even emptying it out completely, but no luck.

What had I done with it? What if I had put it on the tray of food and then thrown it in the trash? What if it fell on the ground somewhere and was picked up by a nefarious stranger?

I decided to retrace my steps and maybe ask the CMs at Artist's Palette if they had found it.

I walked nervously back to the restaurant, trying to figure out a back up plan in case I couldn't find my Special Items.

The car was locked, but Jeremy had the spare key. He would be here tomorrow morning, so I could leave the car until then. We could take a bus back to Pop Century for the night.

Except I didn't have my room key. Well, I could go to the front desk and try to convince them to let me in, despite having no identification or credit cards. It might work. If not, I could always call Jeremy and see if he could help me.

Except that I didn't have my cell phone any more. I could probably get Pop Century or Saratoga Springs to let me use their phone. But I'd rather just find my bag.

It had to be there. It just had to.

I wheeled back into the restaurant and searched around our table. Nothing. I asked a CM if anyone had found a little black bag full of important things. Nothing.

I had been doing so well, too. My time alone with the boys had been great so far and now it was a disastrous failure. I thought for sure I had just tossed the bag back into the stroller.

I remembered paying for our dinner and fumbling with the zipper. I remembered throwing it back into the stroller.

Oh well. I had a back up plan and we would be fine. Nothing I couldn't handle.

I gazed at the stroller console sadly. If only I had used the clip on the Special Items bag...wait a minute. There was the clip right there!

I reached out and retrieved Special Items from the bottom of the console. It had been there the whole time.

I had decorated my Special Items bag with Disney pins to make it look more magical.

DSCI0084.JPG

The side with the pins had been facing down. The fabric of the bag and the material of the stroller console had blended right in, perfectly camouflaged so that I couldn't see it or feel it there.

I carefully clipped Special Items to the stroller and headed back to the car jauntily, thrilled that we could return to our room and go to bed as previously planned.

As we walked back by the pool, the group of kids who had been gathered by the statue began to walk down the sidewalk I was on. It was just me and my orange stroller amongst a sea of kids in black formal wear.

A couple girls admired the boys as we walked. Carter and Landon loved their attention.

We made it to the car and I happily unlocked it, got the boys and stroller loaded and drove back to Pop Century. Our long day had just gotten even longer and I couldn't wait to get back to our room.
