Ever "bumped" from a resort due to overbooking?

We were once bumped from the Swan to the Yacht Club. Apparently the Swan was overbooked. They let us know about a week before the trip. I didn't mind, it gave me a chance to experience the Yacht Club. But it was only for one night, and in the morning we had to move all our stuff to the Swan...that took a big chunk of time from our day. Other than the moving, it was no big deal...actually, it was nice! I wish they had let us stay at the YC.

I just called WDW and I was told that overbooking could not happen with the current computer system, one in a million, was the exact quote. I hope so.

Well, I guess I was that 1 in 1 million last Nov. when we checked into the Poly. The really nice gentleman that checked us in said "Oh my. I'll be right back." I'm thinking upgrade yeah! Well a manager came out and said I'm sorry we're over booked and we have to send you to the Contemporary. Not an upgrade or anything nice. We said no and she said we have to move someone. I was practically in tears but my husband was firm and we got to stay at the Poly. Of course they forgot to tell housekeeping because we had to call for both the days we were there. I really like the Poly but this left us with a bad feeling. Sue

Where at GF is RPC? Is that a good location? When did you find out about this, at check in?

Royal Palm Club is located in the main building of the GF and is club level. It is very expensive and most would probably jump at the chance to stay there. But we just love lagoon view in Hawaii and as we usually need an accessible room, can now only book there when our daughter isn't with us. So that was our first chance in a year and now it will have been another year before we return this Fall. I know...pity party.:rotfl: But we were disappointed. Of course, she can't stay there at all.:sad2:

Yes, we found out when we approached the bellstand to ask them to call back to Hawaii to see if our room was ready. We were told we needed to go to the regular checkin instead. There we were told the bad news. We asked the CM to doublecheck as we really wanted to stay there. But no luck.

I think they had attempted to call us about it. When we returned home, there was a message to call the concierge. But the problem was that we were already at WDW at the BCVillas.

But I really wouldn't worry about being walked. It was our first time in what would have been our 31st stay there. It has also not happened in our stays at the FW, GF, BC Villas, BC or AKL. If it happened often there would have been many more responses than you received here. And as I said, most would have been thrilled at our "bump."

We were bumped up from Pop last August to CSR. They offered the upgrade at checkin. We were there for the free dining for 4 nights. After telling us our room was not ready the CM asked us to wait, and went in the back, then asked us if we would be interested in moving to CSR for the same price we paid for Pop....of course we did. We have vacationed in WDW more than 60 trips now and have been upgraded to better rooms about half of the time, but this was the first time we were actually upgraded into another resort. Back in 1994 we were booked at Dixie Landing and they called and asked us to move to OKW and we turned them down...sorry, I just didn't have a clue what OKW was and Dixie was new and thought I was going to be harassed to buy a timeshare....little did I know had I done that, I probably would've bought in then instead of waiting 11 years later to buy in.

BTW--I've been downgraded too! We were booked at A/S Movies and when we checked in we were told they didn't have a non-smoking for for us (for medical reasons for our grandson) and they told us we were being moved to A/S Sports. I was so upset and complained and argued, but since we were staying on a CM discount (hubby worked for the catalog then) we pretty much didn't have a choice like a regular guest would. I wrote when we returned and they called and I got the standard, well you were staying with a discount afterall.....

When I worked at a hotel 25 years ago if we walked someone to another hotel we picked up the tab..

When did you know you were bumped, upon arrival? I think that I would be very upset!:sad1:

This happened to me on my last Disney trip! We arrived at our resort and were told there were no rooms left. Unreal, as I had made the reservations months in advance!! Needless to say, we were moved to another resort and we did not receive any compensation. I will say though that everything that could have possibly went wrong that day (from airlines, to eating out, etc.) went wrong, but every other day on our trip was absolutely amazing!!

Ugh. This thread has me really, really nervous.

We booked our trip before free dining came out- for my husband's dream trip to Poly. Switched to a package cause free dining happened to fit our dates.

Now, my BFF, who lost her DH a few months ago :( is coming with us on our Sept. Trip and spending a FORTUNE to book her own room at Poly- cause she wants to stay there in the same hotel with us so bad (we can't fit her in the room unless we made grandpa sleep in the tub LOL)

Now I'm terrified about being walked. I've got special requests on my room due to health issues- I wonder would that make them less likely to try to bump us to another resort? Traveling with 2 stroke survivors (of which I am one and the other is a senior) and a recent widow- if they bump us I think my friend might quite literally come unglued.

:/

This is why I wanted to stay at the GF LOL. But I got outvoted.

Any words of encouragement ya'll can offer me?

I wanted to add- I bet the destruction of my beloved North Wing at the Contemporary is making the deluxe room situation a lot worse too :( what were they thinking!

Well, it wasn't really a bump, but last year we got an e-mail asking us if we would consider moving our ressie due to overbooking the resort for a WDW Sporting Event (Pop Warner). We were offered WL and we took it.

If I was forced to move and didn't like it, I'd want almost a complete refund.

I would expect to be compensated in some form if I was going to get bumped (a better room/better resort/something better). Now, If I was told I was going to be "bumped" without any kind of compensation I think my response back would be "You're going to have to do better than that" (in some form)...

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping for the best- including that because our two reservations are linked (ours and our friends) that it'd be harder for them to bump both ressies.

If they need those 2 garden view they're welcome to upgrade us at the same resort! LOL but this is only my friend's second trip to WDW (we're veterans) and like I said, with the extenuating circumstances I'm hoping that Disney would have a heart and not make us move should trouble arise.

Can't control it- not gonna worry about it! :) Thanks everybody!

This happened to us a while back when All Star Sports was just opening. We were booked there for 2 weekend nights and only 4 buildings were opened. They bumped us over to POFQ. We were aware of the change because they called us.

Sorry if I got people upset for nothing, I was just wondering if there was anything I could do in advance to avoid this, it seems not that likley to happen, I am sure we will all have wonderful trips! I am going to forget abut this and do some fun planning!Poly here we come!!:sail:

A couple of years ago we had reservations at the Beach Club which would have been our first stay there. At check in (not before), we were told that due to a convention mixup they were overbooked but that they could move us to the Swan and comp our stay. I'm a Disney resort gal and my husband pointed out to the cast member that my lower lip was starting to quiver and my eyes were watering up and couldn't they move us to another comparable Disney resort. They moved us to a beautiful room at the Poly with a water view and our 3 night stay was free. I was extremely happy with how it all worked out.

My DF was once walked from ASMu to AKL Concierge. Talk about an upgrade! She still talks about it as one of her "great" disney moments. I guess is possible that being walked isnt always a bad thing. However, I was in the hotel business for a few years, and I avoided walking someone by any means. There is nothing worse than telling someone at 2am that you dont have their room, especially when you are just the lowly front desk agent, not the sales department who put you in the mess! There were also times that we walked people throughout the day because we were drastically overbooked. A helpful tip for those out there: Priceline and other internet discount rates were the first to go. Certainly not the guy who had stayed 30+ times!;)

About 5 years ago we were bumped from the YC because of overbooking. A big company had booked the YC for a conference and the YC had overbooked assuming some company employees would cancel. Unfortunately the company made attendance mandatory so the YC had many overbooked regular customers like my family.
We recieved a phone call a week before we were supposed to go: I actually thought someone was playing a practical joke on us so I didn't freak out on the phone.
The CM told me he had had to call people all day telling them they were bumped and I was the first person who hadn't screamed at him. He comped my family free park hoppers and we were given a choice of a couple of hotels.
We picked Sugarloaf concierge at the GF which was a pretty great deal along with free park hoppers.
Best overbooking ever !!

Any chance I will get bumped from 1bdroom at OKW to BWV? I'de be in heaven:wizard:
