Last trip, I was standing by the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin fastpass distribution area. I was wearing a collared shirt and Disney pin. (Maybe they thought it was a CM badge, but it didn't really look like one.) I had just told a real CM that one of the machines didn't work, so I was positioned behind the machine. Suddenly, this woman came out of nowhere with her stroller and started asking me questions about showtimes for Stitch's Great Escape, how to work the machine, and whether I had a park map with me. The real CM was sort of upset and embarassed at the same time because the woman asked me. The CM sort of took charge of the situation after I began to answer the woman's questions. It was an interesting experience. :wizard:

Yes, that happen to me last year I was in Norway, asking the clerk for a bottle of perfune. A very rude lady came us and told the CM that since we didn't have nothing to do, to please get her a bottle of the same perfune I had asked about. I calmly looked at the lady and told her that the CM would be happy to help her AFTER she was finished helping me. She then asked me DON'T you work here, I smiled and told her no. She looked at me like I had three heads.

It's happened to me too many times to count....I think that maybe it's my lanyard with pins that leads people to believe I'm a CM. I'm not sure.

This happens to me regularly, whenever I go solo or am in the parks solo. I recently posted this same thing on the solo board, and apparently it happens to other solos also. Especially when I'm not carrying anything (which is often) not even a park map. People often approach me for directions to something, transportation questions, where's the nearest restroom, what's that over there? What's scary is I always know the answer! I'm just glad no one's come up to me to complain about something, as has happened to others mistaken for CMs!

YES! :sunny: This has happened a few times when I have helped someone clueless. They wanted to know if I worked at WDW. When I said no the reply usually is you should!!!! :rotfl:

That has happened to me a few times because on my lanyard I have some Cast Member only pins & some Cast Members at the Character Premier Store in the Premium Outlet Mall thought I was one. Funny thing is I could tell people I am a Cast Member because a few years ago on Ebay I got an authentic Cast Member name tag with my name of course when WDW was doing the 100 Years Of Magic. So if I were to bring to WDW I am sure people might think I am a CM, however I would not do that because I have no reason to.

Yes it happens to me frequently. I also think it has to do with my lanyard and my back stage tour pins on it. I just find it very amusing that someone wearing jeans for example would be thought of as a cm. I mean cm's are very clearly uniformed.

Pin with my name and Winnie the Pooh on it, and YES I get mistaken for a CM ALL the time! ;) I answer any and all questions to the best of my ability, and am very polite. :p I even had a CM a week a go, ask me "How did you become a GOH?" I said: "I bought it!" She had the weirdest look on her face! :rolleyes1

Last year we were pulling into the BC area to check in and a cm told my DH that he couldn't go that way. (We have been there before, so we knew that we were going the right way.) My DH asked why he couldn't go that way and the cm said something about him working there, he had to put the car somewhere else. My DH said that he didn't work there, we were checking in. She said "You really don't work here?" You would have thought the wife, 3 kids and all the luggage would have given that away. She did say that she was sorry, but it was weird, I guess that DH must have looked like someone else. :confused3

I use to all the time. I always said if I stood still a few minutes someone would think I was a CM. Once I was even wearing sunglasses. :confused3
It was more so when I wore a lanyard. I don't wear one often any longer, and it does not happen as much. And now that I am a CM, I don't think it has happened at all when I am in the parks (as a guest). :confused3 :rotfl2:

yes, and boy was it unpleasant.

I was wearing your usual florida fare (jean shorts and a t shirt) and my purple tink lanyard with my purple GOH tink badge, holding my son's hand in AK.

When a woman and her young daughter came up to me and said to me "the map says there's a restroom around here but I don't see it, where is it?!?!?!".

I was a little stunned that someone was asking me anything, especially in such a nasty tone. I said, "I'm sorry, I don't know" (I really didn't)

But before I could point her in the direction of a real CM she stormed off LOUDLY saying, "that was really fu*&*^% helpful!"

I didn't get it until my husband pointed out that she must have thought I was a CM.
I was way too shocked to chase her down and thank her for swearing in front of my 4 year old son and tell her it was her mistake - I'm not a cm.

oh well. I was however scared to wear my GOH after that! lol. And have a lot more sympathy for the CMs who "put their life on the line" every day.

Yes this has happened to me lots of times but my favorite was our wedding night. We went to dinner at the castle (before princess dinner existed) my hair and makeup were still done but had a different dress on. My husband went to go smoke a cigarette and I waited for him by the gift shop in the castle when a little girl asked if I was Cinderella!!

Awww, how sweet, I hope you said, "Yes, Tonight I am Cinderella"!

All the time and I usually just smile and help the people out. I guess I just look "Disney".

We were at the souvineer cart at Indiana Jones Stunt Show and a CM started talking to us about our Disney 100 Years of Magic Hats and he said "you all are cast members right?!" My DH said we should have said YES and where do we go to get backstage etc......and can we have the discount....ha ha ha! That was funny that is wasn't a guest but a CM that thought WE were CM's!! :wave2:

We bought GOH badges in 1999 and each and every trip we have been mistaken for CM's. If it's a guest asking a question, then I do my best to answer it and I normally know the answer. I figure, hey, they want to know where the bathroom is and I know so I am just helping them out!

We get a lot of looks while waiting in ride lines. Some people ask us how we became guests of honor :)

The best though, and this happens several times per trip is when a CM asks us what department we work for!! LOL :rotfl2: This mostly happens on rides as we are about to get on the ride and usually we answer "Ride Testing Department" LOL

Funny thing, they seem to believe us HAHAHAHA :lmao:

Yeah, it seems to happen whenever I stand around in Fantasyland wearing green pants and a white shirt with yellow and blue flowers on the front. I don't get it, why do people think I work there?

Last year I decked my mom and dad out - GOH badges, mom also got a lanyard and some pins, and I explained, and my dd9 explained the nuances of pin trading... um we neglected to tell her she may be thought of as a CM!! :rotfl:

At MGM (I should also mention my mom gets real spacey, dont go shopping with her without a leash!! I cant tell you how many times I've lost my mom - it drives my dad crazy - dh now too!! and she cant use her cell phone :rotfl2: ) so anyways, I get everybody rounded up, the men and their beers at the Backlot Express... lost mom, go looking (all she had to do was follow me to the table)

and these 2 adorable girls, and their dad are pointing to mom's lanyard, their dad was puzzled... I quickly assess the situation... and smile at the dad, and say to my mom "mom, the girls think you are a CM and want to trade pins with you!! The dad looked shocked, and was apologetic, mom said, well do I have to? and then quickly looks at the confused girls and then my mom says "which pin? " since it wasnt one of mom's favorite, they made the trade - their dad was apologetic, I just smiled and said "I love being in Disney, its just the greatest place!!"
