Ever Been Disappointed in California Grill?

To answer your first question, our one and only visit to Cali Grill was very disappointing...

The appetizer was good, the salad was good, but we did not like the food at all (just not our style). But the service was mediocre at best (and it was our wedding dinner, and yes, they knew). Our waiter, while helpful, seemed put off because we didn't know what many of the menu selections really were (some of the more "extravagant" stuff). I asked for two salads, but only got one (not a big enough deal to say anything about, but he could have been more attentive), he only "checked" on us once and didn't offer to refill our drinks or anything. I've had better service for less $$$.

That said, there are many folks who consider the Cali Grill to be the "be all-end all" of a WDW visit, and I envy those folks. I would love to have such an experience at WDW, but I'm still looking for that place! :)

Unfortunately, I can't really recommend an alternative 'cause we just didn't get to try many places.

We always eat at the California Grill every time we visit WDW and it is our dining "highlight". :sunny: We will be dining there twice next visit because once is just not enough!! :goodvibes

We went last summer with a 6 year old and a 10 year old and really had a magical time. When I started planning for this summer and asked my DS6 what were his prioirities he answered 1) Ride the rides in Tomorrowland, 2) California Grill and watch the fireworks and 3) Eat with Mickey. He enjoyed it that much!

We had sushi (the tastiest thing I had in WDW!) a salad (great!) and a couple of entree (veal and beef I think) that tasted good except we were much too full to eat more than a few bites. When we go back this next year we won't have the dining plan so I'm planning on sushi and a salad.

Everytime I read a good review about CG, the writer mentions the great view. IF there was no view, let's say the restaurant is on the concourse, would you go back for just the food?

I wish it was. :teeth: It seems to be getting progressively harder to get short/mid term reservations because of the fireworks. I'd agree with the posters who say it's not quite what it was a few years ago, but it's still very good.
