Ever afraid that everyone will start using FPs?

When there last week I was amazed that more people were not using FPs. They couldn't have been. Because the posted wait times for some attractions like Soarin' were at 70 min and people were waiting that long!

Whereas I used them every chance I could and never stood in line for more than 20 min! (minus one breakdown at TSM) Do you think everyone will someday know the best kept secret about WDW? And are you afraid?

Nah. Regardless of standby or FP, attractions can serve only so many people each day. How they're distributed doesn't really matter. The real problem is crowd level.

Lots of the standby folks just make the choice to wait. Whereas some will get the FP and go wait in line for another ride, others may not care about the other and just wait in line.


Besides, do you know how many texts a 14yo can send in 70 minutes? A LOT.

I'm not worried. You see, the vast majority of people visiting WDW have no idea what a FP is. Each time I go over to a park, I try to strike up a conversation with folks either on a tram, monorail or boat. I like to ask where they are from, etc. I always tell them to make sure to take advantage of FP. Most of them have no idea what a FP is.

I know it sounds odd to the folks on this board, but many, many people who visit WDW do very little research or planning for the vacation.

I know exactly what FP is and will NOT use it. to me, it's too much of a hassle and backtracking to go hither and yon to get the FP then come allllll the way back to get inline to ride.

so we have our limit.. if the SB wait line is more than 30 minutes we skip it or come back at a later time. exception being Soarin'.. I will wait 45 for Soarin.

DH will use Single rider line when applicable since many of those rides I can't go on anyway.

and oh yeah I also don't watch the parades and you will never have to fight me for a seat at Fantasmic either.

I bet most people roam all over the park from one end to other more than once during a stay. So, gather all the FP during the day, then use them any time after the return time the next time you are in the area.

Not trying to change your mind, but if you come back at a later time, isn't that backtracking, too? Might as well grab the FP the first time you're there, so when you come back and the line is still over 30 minutes, you can ride it in 10-15.

We love fastpass, but we don't go nuts running all over to get them. At the time of year we go, FP return times aren't usually more than an hour or two later, so we'll maybe get one for Space Mtn for example, then ride the Speedway, Astro Orbitor, and/or get a snack nearby, then it's time to ride SM!

We also don't go nuts with fastpasses. We love them and use them, but it's not the end of the world if we have to do a stand by line as well.

However, I have to admit that I am deeply grateful for those on DIS who enlightened me about them. While FPs certainly don't make or break a trip, I think they do just enhance it a small amount. It's nice waiting in line for RnRC, and then having a FP and being able to skip right back on 5 minutes later.

not really, at least not for us.. if one ride is too long we go to the next one over then check back with the original one. in all honesty, the ONLY ride I get bummed out missing is Soarin so any other ride I can happily miss out on and it won't ruin my day. and DH . I am talking about grabbing FP for say ToT then running back over to ride Tracks then running all the way back to ToT when its time.

we tend to do one circuit of the park. IF I can still function at the end, we will go back and revisit a few favorites or try and see a show or three. but even in the Wheelchair its hard for me to be doing a lot of doublebacking. that's more exhausting than standing in line for me. all the transiting.

we also only do early EMH and the only reason we are contemplating late EMHs the day we arrive is because we have 2 less days this year and we won't be getting to the parks until prolly early afternoon( coming from the Magic).

Oh an no kids to dictate our touring plan eihtre.

It just works for us to not have to worry about fast Pass. doesn't bother me in the least that others use it and get on quicker,. half the fun is the main line and all the little touches anyway.

You are limited to the number of FastPasses you can get at a time so many people will just choose the standby line instead of coming back for FastPass. For example, there are many who will choose a FastPass for either Rock N Roller Coaster or Twilight Zone and then do the stand by line for the other. Because they won't want to return to Sunset Boulevard later in the day. Yes, there are people who don't understand FastPass at all. How many people really do know you can use that FastPass later than the stated time (which I still don't like but that's another issue)? Not a lot. Then you have people who don't think the wait is that bad. Disney queues are quite entertaining.

That was my first thought. If everyone started taking advantage of FP as the main form of line waiting, then ultimately the SB lines would thin out over time.

Could you imagine what a Travel Channel special of the distant future would look like?

Seriously though, I have gotten really spoiled over the years and pretty much rely on FP for most main attractions. I really don't mind the backtracking that can come along with using the system. It allows more time to take in the park and hit more attractions. Granted, Disney & Universal parks both have the most creative themed waiting lines than any other park chain (imo). So waiting in a 45-min line or longer isn't pure agony. (The same can't be said for most Six Flags parks I've been to. With the nice "Chewed gum stuck to wall" theming, or TV that plays mostly static. )
But FP still makes it so much easier and allows time to take in more.

Total use of Fastpass could not ever matter, because there are a limited number of Fastpasses, period. Not everyone can actually use them because they run out. Remember, you are not guaranteed to be able to get a Fastpass at an attraction, or that the return time is what you want or is usable.

Fastpass also does not reduce wait times in the standby line (on average...in the morning it can have a positive affect), it only prevents those using FP from waiting in the line. The attraction still loads people at the same rate.

When we were at AK last week we used the new FP stands and got 3 FP's then we headed over to Kali rapid ride and got one for that. After the first time went by we got 3 more. We had a great day. Road safari 2 times, EE 3 times, kali rabids 2 times. We use Fast Passes all the time Love them.
