Evening Extra Magic Hour! (VERY LONG POST)

PHP:
If you find yourself willing to pay for an event like this, then maybe you should consider paying a little extra to stay at a WDW resort next time.

Its not that I am not will to pay EXTRa to stay at a WDW resort, but some people do own condo's and villa in the area.
We also opt to do other things than just Disney.

Can someone please post the correct hours? Or are those listed on the beginning of the post correct?

I didn't realize that I would have to fix my priority seatings!!

That's a pain, but more time in the parks is nice!

I think it's a great idea! I hope it stays around for a while :)

Does anyone know if they usually adjust the public closing time in this event? the magic kingdom is currently scheduled to close at 8:30 pm; would the extra magic night time be after that, or would they close the park early (say at 6 or 7) and then have the extra magic time? many thanks for any insight.

The hours have not been released yet. According to the CM that we spoke to yesterday, the exact hours will be posted on the official WDW website as soon as they are available. They did not provide the URL or know when it would be posted.

I just read another board and they said that this new sch. is in addition to the old sch. meaning that the will keep the old sch. plus the new sch. at the same time ,meaning that it will be!

extra magic hour!
OLD SCH.

sun,thur- mk
wed - epcot
sat,tue- mgm
mon,fri -AK

PLUS THE NEW ONES POSTED ON THIS THREAD!???
IS THIS TRUE?

kenman, I have the exact same question.
If the old schedule is still in place, and Disney just ADDED the new schedule along, then plans that were based on EHM in the mornings will not be completely affected. Early risers will not have to plan again unless they want to take advantage of the extra hours in the evenings too.

Does the new schedule REPLACE or is ADDED to the old one?
The answer is crucial...

I am sorry for those who did extensive planning for their trips only to have WDW ruin their trips by springing this on them with short notice. Our family runs through numerous drafts of itineraries before coming up with a final draft--which changes again significantly when we get about 2 days into our trip. However, notice how the information was only distributed to CMs through their news and information...? They don't want to openly discuss their test until they can give more accurate information. Or they may not give the general public any information if they decide that nights don't work. No reason to upset or excite folks if they aren't going to do it permanently. The only reason you have this info is due to great CMs, or folks who can get inside info, who know that there are folks out there who are obsessive planners and would benefit from having this information before they arrive. Instead of worrying about this new information, you should take the time to thank those who gave you this info. for w/o it, you would've shown up and found out about it.........how much worse would that be.....?

We rarely do EMH because being from the West Coast, getting to the park by normal opening is hard enough. If the park does EMH at 8am, for us it's like arriving to the front gate by 5am which means getting up at what seems like 3:30 or 4am.... I don't think anyone who has posted even gave us West Coast WDW lovers a second thought.....We would love it if parks stayed open for resort guests..

I just called and got the scoop...
the old sch. is in addition to the new sched. At least that's what this CM told me!
So, I got the old sched. of:
MK: Th, Sun
AK: M, (F?)
MGM: Tues, Sat
EPCOT: W

Plus...
MK on Fri am..(CM told me this is in addition to AK, but I think that maybe MK is replacing AK)
PM EMH:
Sun EPCOT PM
Tues AK PM
Wed MK PM
Th AK PM

I think I would rather see more MGM PM EMH than AK, but beggars can't be choosers...at least they are trying new things.

IMO, the only way to know for sure is to wait until the formal announcement early this week. Remember all of this started with some text quoted from the Disney Cast Member web site on late Friday. Any details that are not specifically revealed in that quoted text should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm sure it will only be another day or two before full details are available (via the proper channels) and people can start making informed decisions.

What's a KEY TO THE WORLD CARD? Is it your room key-card? Is it open to all WDW resort guests (with exceptions as noted)? When they say "at select resorts," it almost sounds like not everyone gets to participate.....

We arrive on May 22, and will most likely not do a park that day (relax at the pool, instead). I hope they either extend the "trial" period or go back to E-ticket nites at MK. I would like to see what it's like to have extended hours for the other parks, though, so I'm open to trying something new.

CSR in however many days it says in my countdown timer below! [clueless]:scratchin :scratchin

Like I said before, those who think this will be like E-Ticket night should be aware that it will be different. E-Ticket night is limited to a certain number of guests to keep crowds down. This will not. Anyone who is a resort guest can participate. If you just want extra hours, you will probably like it. If you want smaller crowds, you will probably be disappointed.

EE isn't limited to a certain number of guest. It's open to all resort guest. I've never seen the parks crowded during EE.

I think EMH may have the same type of crowds that EE has. I don't believe all guest will take advantage of EMH.

You can't use the same logic. Alot of people don't like to get up early in the morning to get to EE (hence, the smaller crowds), but most people don't mind staying up a little later, so the crowds will be MUCH larger.

FYI

I just called WDW and a CM named Jayse confirmed what the OP said regarding the schedule for EMH during the test period in May. I believe someone stated that AK would be Tuesday in the evening and that is not true MGM will have EMH in the evening.

Oh, it's growing on me now:D

2002Disneybride also shows tuesday as ANIMAL KINGDOM EVENING!!!!NOT MGM!!!!so don't think it's just me with this info!
WHO IS RIGHT????????????
I'm glad i'm not the only one with this info!
MGM has no Night MAGIC HOUR?

Well, I'll be there in the middle of their test, and I'm excited! I think its GRAND idea to have both night and morning times, since some of us HATE the idea of rising at 6am on a vacation =) Just another great perk for staying onsite!

We have our PS set and such, but its not a big deal to us to change things... I hope those that are facing lots of changing and decisions won't be too burdened by it. i know some put ALOT of work into planning...

I hope this goes over big and is happening in June while we are there. I'd love to close MK the last night we are there and if it's 11:00 or 12:00, all the better!:teeth:

I think this is absolutely right. You also have to factor in that there will be people already in the parks who may or may not know about this ahead of time. They may not make a special trip, but when they find out it's open later and they are already there, they'll stick around. Even if you're not an on-site guest, they're going to let you shop and eat, so the crowds won't go down that much past the normal closing time.

The only exception I can see is if they keep it open much later than normal (like the potential 3 hours quoted earlier). The later it gets, the more people will trickle out, especially if they don't hold additional fireworks or parades (which I would anticipate they won't, unless they plan to actively kick out off-site guests at some point).

I am sorry to all the people whose plans are changing at the last minute. :(

But, I think this is a great idea, for a few reasons. Obviously, a resort guest perk is always nice. But I love that now there are different options. I am definitely not a morning person, but on our trip in March, traveling with a toddler, I learned to appreciate EMH and see why it is so valuable for families with children. For future trips, I would love to have the options to go early some days, and stay late on others.

I really like this as a management/business decision for Disney, also. Not that I know, but I can't imagine that EMH made a lot of money. It seems to me that it was mainly used for "get to the parks, ride the big rides without the crowds, go on with a regular day". That must have freed people up to do more shopping during the day, but I would think that more $$$ would be generated by the 3 hours at the end of the day between food and shopping. I could be totally wrong, but that was one of my first thoughts about it.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

I hope it isn't too big of a hassle for those traveling during the test phase.

I always stay onsite but don't like to get up early for EMH. When we went for Spring Break the crowds were always horrible during the day but at night it was wonderful. We closed the MK down at least twice. Both times waits during the day were unbearable but at night the wait times were much less. This of course was not just resort guests, so this will be even better. I have also never done the e-night thing because I don't want to spend more money than I have to. I also believe for e-nights they actually close the park down earlier than usual. This just didn't seem right to me. Why would we want to pay extra when they are giving us this great benefit.

I do hope they keep both schedules though for all of you who have already done your planning.
