Even the Christmas commercials are depressing!

My Christmas was absolutely awful last year, so this will be an improvement even with a pandemic!

I don’t mean to make light of it, though. I know people will struggle. I’m just ready to come out on the other side.

Yeah. Last year was when one of our 4 year old cats died of cancer around the holiday season and his brother started getting sick. He's still here though!

Not a happy Christmas to say the least!

Don’t you have kids? How are you alone ?
You choose to stay single. Posted many times how you refuse to date.
Having adult children is not the same as having a partner/husband/boyfriend/lover.
So because I am not dating (how does one date during a pandemic anyway?) I don't have a right to feel sad because I don't have a someone to share things with?

And yes I was choosing to not date right after getting out of back to back awful relationship where I was left feeling used and unworthy. I was choosing to not put myself in a situation tat I was not ready for. I was choosing to heal.

Just just Christmas commercials but just commercials in general. I hate this mess we’re in. Mask social distancing and all the other catch words of the year but now commercials are made showing people wearing masks. I’d like to forget about this whole miserable mess. Not be remind of it when I’m trying to relax watching tv

I totally agree,,I was just about in tears..but I was also almost in tears at Greys and Station 19. Too depressing :(
I don’t watch Station 19 but I didn’t feel Grey’s was anywhere near as intense as Chicago Med was. For me, Med felt like they were taking a bat to you at every turn where Grey’s just felt like Grey’s working around COVID. But, if I had my choice the shows would just go on like normal without reality in the picture.

I read the Grey's was going to do just that but someone producer, show runner, writer, whatever, said that being a show set in a hospital they couldn't just ignore it. I'm okay with COVID being an underlining story but I don't know if I want the entire season to be entirely COVID focused.

Life is what you choose to make of it I guess.

I don’t know what you watch but if you watch “Chicago Wednesday” do NOT watch Med. My DH came into the living room to find me sobbing. It was all COVID tragedy and no storyline. Fire, they were wearing masks and acknowledged it but that was it. PD, they had on Gators but didn’t really mention it. Because of Med I hesitated to watch Grey’s but they did a really good job. Their storylines while dealing with COVID. My friend said The Good Doctor upset her.
Completely agree! I was just simply NOT prepared for how freaking depressing The Good Doctor would be and Chicago Med was very hard too. I don't often get lumps in my throat but yup I sure did there. I almost turned it off. I haven't watched Grey's Anatomy yet but I did watch Station 19. Good to hear your take on Grey's because that is one I'm worried about too.

The only COVID story lines that I haven't minded is The Conners. The Conners/Roseanne are known for bringing real life issues into their story lines and for the vast majority of the time they've worked out well that way. Perhaps being a comedy works? IDk the COVID so far in The Conners (the Halloween special I thought was cute the solution they showed) balanced the seriousness and the comedy.

I watched SVU and then the first of the two new S.W.A.T episodes and while they touched on COVID they were more about police relations and bias (which I knew they would be). We'll see how far into COVID they go. I'm interested in how SEAL Team handles it because most of that show is focused on being elsewhere in the world on missions so we'll see.

Back on topic there have been a few commercials (and I think I'll have to rewatch them to remember all the details) where I thought "okay did we have to go there and make it all sad" but others weren't too too bad. Most of my tv watching is through DVR so commercials aren't quite as prevalent. But we do watch things on ad-supported streaming so I see them there.

I'm to the point though where part of me really doesn't want it in my face and the other part some of those commercials remind me people can care about each other so I'm 50/50 at this moment.

I like the Walmart commercial with the Aretha Franklin song, the longer version especially tracks how things went this year and I found it touching. But I do not want to see a bunch of depressing covid commercials. I saw the Hershey Kiss We Wish You a Merry Christmas bells ad for the first time last night and that was great to see some normality. The Dick's Sporting Goods ad is clever with the animated items.

Yeah, I can see being stuck between a rock and a hard place on the subject. I feel like they struck a good balance.

Med played to my biggest fear it just did me in. I’m really not sure if I’ll continue to watch.

PD also focused on police relations and bias too but their storyline was already headed that way before they got shut down. They wore gators but I really don’t remember them touching on it other than that.

I’ve enjoyed The Connors too.

I love the Hobby Lobby commercial with the old couple playing matchmaker!

Me too! It makes me so happy. I always loved the Amazon ad from a few years back with the priest and the imam. I haven't seen the Hershey's ad yet this year, so it's not quite Christmastime until I do!
